“The kids. I like that our family is around.”
“You do,” she linked her arms around his neck.
“I do. I would like to hear a cacophony of laughter and footsteps in the house.”
Her eyes flitted to his. “My house. I still want my house, Gulliver.”
“I’m not taking your house away. He chuckled as he adjusted himself over her. “It is your house. It is what you want. I would like to get the inspector in. I texted him last night.”
“But you’re building a house.”
“Are you thinking already I’m going to live with you and demand a different house?”
She looked away sheepishly, “I just mean that if things go well, and you and I are still compatible after dating, it’s the natural progression of things.”

“Yeah that too,” she admitted with a shy smile. “The town is excited for your investment into the local economy though.”
“I can build a house. I have a large family, January. My brother and Mitsos will need a place to stay when they come to the town. My parents always travel with an entourage. My mother is very excited to meet you and Kaylee. She really gave me and Thisbe shit and rightfully so. She is looking forward to spoiling you both.”
“She can’t be worse than my mother.”
“Your mother is going through a big upheaval. Your father wants you to give her space because he thinks it will help her gain perspective. If anyone knows her, it is him.”
“Growing up, she was always a great mom, and she still is now but she raised me to be independent and self–sufficient. She only ever wanted one kid. Then she ended up having to live with a second kid. It was Dad who called Davis and got us moved. It was Dad who wanted us to hide and wanted to protect us. She was pretty much forced without input into the situation.”
“She’s blaming you for losing out on her life for the last eight years.” He surmised quietly.
“Yup.”

“You’ll keep you safe too, Gulliver. Do not make me fall back in love with you only for you to die.”
“I’ll do my best.” He traced her cheeks with his fingertips, “I would very much like to kiss you again.”
“I wouldn’t be opposed to a good morning kiss.”
“I have really bad breath. Pizza and red wine before bed.”
“I’m finding I don’t really care,” she let her fingers play with the hair at the nape of his neck. “I’ve waited a long time to be kissed by you again.”

“Then let me end your wait,” his breath was hot against her lips as he closed the distance. Tentatively he slid his mouth across hers, his nose slipping against hers and his weight heavy on her as he settled into the kiss.
Her fingers stretched along his skull as she held him closer to her. Her lips parted, giving him access to deepen the kiss and his groan of approval was heady. Her body was responding to his touch with the hunger of a starving woman. Her belly clenched, her nipples tightened and her fingers were curling at the taste of his tongue on her palate. He felt like coming home and she nearly wept as his arms snaked under her body to cradle her against him while he plundered her mouth with a fervor of a man on a lifesaving mission.
She was gasping for breath when Gulliver broke the kiss. She knew her cheeks were stained red and her body was desperate for more. His body was equally as excited as hers and the length of him was barely contained in his pajama bottoms.
“I have to stop because I just heard Kaylee scream something about her dad,” Gulliver groaned, “but baby, I do not want to stop. I want to kiss you until the sun comes up tomorrow.”
Kaylee screaming in the other room to Mitsos, “I want to see if my dad is awake” and Glenn encouraging her to wait until he came out on his own, made January giggled.
“Remind me to increase my brother’s allowance,” Gulliver voiced his appreciation of his brother trying to buy him more alone time with January. He groaned loudly and rolled off January just in time for Kaylee to throw the door open. 4/5

“Mom, Dad, you’re awake. Glenn said it’s Sunday and we get to go to the zoo today. You need to get up,” she climbed onto the bed and straddled Gulliver’s chest completely unaware of what she’d interrupted. Kaylee cupped his cheeks, her knees pressing into his chest, “your face is red.”
“I’m hot,” he said with a shrug.
“You need to get up so we can spend a whole day together before we have to go back to Nana’s house.”
“We’re not going back today,” January said with a smile. “We’re going to spend another night here with your dad. Tomorrow we’ll drive you to school in the morning and then after school we’ll come back to spend more time with your dad’s family.”
Kaylee’s eyes got wide, “really? You’re going to stay too?”
“Yes. Is that okay?”
“That’s the best news I ever had! I love spending time with my family. I love my dad and,” she was babbling, “my mom and I love you both being together and I’m so happy.”
“Me too, Kaylee,” January said as she gave Gulliver a shy smile. “Me too.”
