Confusion flickered in the eyes of the soldiers. They had thought Quentin must’ve pulled some strings to get him assigned to the patrol team. 

But judging by Maria’s reaction, it seemed she had had no clue about it at all. 

The soldiers didn’t press for details. They just saluted and left. 

Even Quentin himself was totally clueless what had just happened. 

That afternoon, Chloe was invited over to Emery’s place for coffee. 

Emery’s eyes lit up when he saw her walk in. “Hey, Chloe, you’re here! Come on in,” he greeted. 

He was rocking a sharp military uniform, standing tall and proud, but he looked totally down–to–earth. 

“Hello,” Chloe said, giving him a formal salute. 

“Don’t just stand there. Have a seat and let’s talk,” Emery said warmly. 

Then he glanced at Peyton, and his tone switched to annoyance. “Hey, you knucklehead, get over here.” Chloe couldn’t help but smile. That nickname fit Peyton perfectly; he really was a bit of a goofball. 

“Chloe, don’t let his goofy side fool you. He’s actually a pretty decent guy,” Emery said with a grin. 

Chloe couldn’t shake the weird vibe from those words. It felt exactly like a blind date setup. 

She shook her head with a smile, figuring she was just imagining things. 

Just then, Graham walked in. He looked quite a bit like Emery. 

Maybe it was all those years on the battlefield, but his whole demeanor was serious and stern. 

He sat down across from Chloe and said, “I heard you’re space–powered?” 

Chloe nodded. “Our team has two space–powered humans. I’m the storage type, and the other one is the offensive type.” 

Graham and Emery couldn’t help but suck in a breath. 

‘Holy crap. Out of the entire army and the millions living in the base, only Elise has space powers. 

‘And now Chloe’s team had two. Seriously, how are we supposed to compete with that?‘ they grumbled inwardly, but kept their poker faces. 

After a pause, Graham asked, “Space powers can be used for offense?”

Chloe nodded. “As for the method of attack, it’s a secret for every powered human. I can’t disclose it.” 

Graham nodded, letting it go. 

He picked up his cup, took a sip of coffee, and got down to business. 

“I heard from Peyton that you want half the military’s medical supplies. What makes you think you can make such a demand?” Graham asked. 

Chloe sat up straight, her posture confident and composed. 

She began, “I have both space and healing powers. And my contributions should be clear to you. 

“Molly has a sensing ability with powerful precognition. She can predict the future and help us avoid danger. 

“Emily is spirit–powered and about to reach level three. She can control the minds of any powered human at her level or below.” 

She went through everyone on her team, laying out exactly what each person brought to the table. 

Not just Graham, even Emery’s hands started shaking. They almost couldn’t keep it together. 

‘Whoa, holy cow! This squad is packed with hidden talents!‘ they thought. 

When they heard there were two fourth–level powered humans, they totally lost their composure. 

Graham shot up from the couch, his eyes wide with shock. 

“Are you saying your team has a fourth–level powered human and a fourth–level mutant cheetah?” he asked, completely floored. 

He couldn’t help but think, ‘This is insane! 

‘Across the whole country, even third–level powered humans are rare. No one’s ever even seen fourth–level one before. 

‘And now, in just two months, Chloe’s team has got a fourth–level powered human and a mutant cheetah?‘ 

He was stunned for a second, but then quickly pulled himself together. 

“From what I know, when your squad registered, the strongest ability anyone had was only level two,” Graham. said, sounding skeptical. 

In his eyes, Chloe was just trying to get a bigger share of the pie, probably just talking big on purpose. 

“Alright then,” Chloe sneered, “we’ll stick to what’s on the record. 

“I’ll only be treating wounded soldiers. As for using my space power for storage, that’s off the table.” 

Graham’s face turned dark with anger.

“Do you even realize how many people in the base are seriously injured?” he snapped. 

Chloe shot back, “What does that have to do with me?”

She just shrugged, thinking to herself, ‘As long as my team survives, the rest of them could drop dead for all I 

care.‘ 

Seeing the tension rise, Emery kicked Graham hard under the table. 

“Cut the crap! Saving refugees is our job as soldiers, not hers. Why are you trying to guilt–trip her?” Emery snapped. 

Graham looked torn. “But…” 

Chloe cut him off. “Would you be open to a suggestion?” 

After Emery nodded, she said coolly, “We’re willing to join the army for this mission, and we’ll only ask for ten percent of the medical supplies. 

“But I’m only responsible for medical treatment and collecting supplies. Blaze Squad can assist, but we won’t be your main combat force.” 

Graham’s expression finally softened a bit. 

Chloe continued, “I need you to help me find someone.” 

“Who?” Graham asked. 

“A seven–year–old boy named Filip Yates. Six days ago, he went to the Medical Tower with the scavenger crew, some soldiers, and a merc squad. Everyone else made it back, but he’s still missing,” Chloe explained. 

Graham agreed right away. 

After hesitating for a moment, he persisted, “So, about those fourth–level powered humans in your squad…” 

Chloe held up two fingers. “Twenty percent of the medical supplies, plus half of all the cores we collect after the mission. That’s the price for having them step in and intimidate the mercenary squad.” 

Graham hated to part with so much, but he agreed anyway. “Okay.” 

Chloe’s cool, unwavering stare made it impossible for him to doubt that her squad really did have fourth- level powered humans. 

Plus, Peyton had kept nudging him to win Chloe over, always saying she was way more formidable than she seemed. 

If anyone else had tried to negotiate like this today, Graham would’ve slammed the table and thrown them out on the spot. 

He told her, “Make sure you’re ready. We’re heading out before sunrise the day after tomorrow.”

Chloe hurried home and brought the whole team up to speed. Everyone was on board. 

Lately, the squad had been flat broke. They didn’t have a single core left. 

At the mention of cores, a sly glint flashed in Chloe’s eyes. 

“I need to get ready tonight. Tomorrow, I’m heading to the Trade Market to trade for cores,” she said. 

Everyone’s eyes lit up. None of them had ever been to the Trade Market before, and they couldn’t wait to go see what all the fuss was about. 

Linda came downstairs. 

“Chloe, is there anything I can do to help?” she asked. 

Chloe could tell Linda felt bad about not pitching in recently. 

She said, “Why don’t you give Liana a hand? She’s got her hands full cooking for everyone, cleaning up, and keeping an eye on the plants. She could really use some help.” 

“Sure thing. I’ll help out,” Linda said, sounding relieved. Finally, a smile appeared on her face. 

Everyone was busy all night, whipping up food for the Trade Market tomorrow. 

“Chloe, with how rare and precious real food is now, we’ll be able to trade for loads of cores and emeralds,” Chiara said, beaming with happiness. 

Soon, Frank appeared, pushing a cart he’d somehow found. 

“Tomorrow, we can pile all our stuff on this and wheel it along. It’ll hold a ton of supplies, and we won’t have to lug everything ourselves,” he said.

The next day, Chloe rented a small stall, just big enough to fit the cart. 

Frank and his family stayed here running the stall, trading goods with other people.
