Andrew didn’t mince words. “You’re such a slut.” 

The insult barely fazed Emily; she was far more attuned to Ethan’s reaction, so she turned her face toward him. 

But he acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing, his head bowed over his phone, fingers darting across the screen like he was firing off a message to someone. 

Emily didn’t need to guess—it had to be Nancy. 

Andrew could hurl abuse at her, and Ethan couldn’t care less. 

In his world, any of his friends could demean her without

Yet Nancy? She was treated like royalty, with everyone around Ethan showing her the utmost respect.

Faced with their insults and disdain, she had no choice but to fight back on her own.

Vanessa sensed the chill in Emily’s demeanor but pressed on anyway. “I just talked to Derek. Emily had no desire to hear more. She changed the subject. “How are you getting home, then?” 

Vanessa said, “I’ll grab a cab.” 

“And Derek? He’s not going with you?” 

Vanessa paused, then answered, “I told him to head back first.”

Aaron, dressed in casual clothes, leaned down slightly to peer in at Emily. He arched an eyebrow, looking effortlessly handsome. 

With a warm smile, he said, “I was going to ask you the same thing—what brings you out this way?”

Andrew was the first to notice Emily. He nudged Ethan, gesturing for him to look their way.
