Jumping out of the window has made my whole body feel like it’s on fire but I would do it again. I struggle to keep up a fast pace but Lexi helps by constantly reminding me that once we are clear of the pack border we can slow down. Even injured I manage to keep up a good pace and within just a few minutes we find ourselves in the forest. Of course, there’s still a chance that we could get caught here with the guards that are on duty, but it is still much less likely than if we had walked through the ball area. 

Before we came here Lily made a map for us to use in the forest and I’m grateful for it. This place is huge and we could get lost so easily. Sticking to the map and double–checking our steps takes time and I swear that anytime either of us hears any kind of noise we both freeze and just about hold off panic attacks. “We’re almost there, Bon.” I sag with relief hearing her words. 

A few minutes later we stop for a quick drink of water while I fight back tears. This pain is the worst that I have ever experienced and boy have I suffered plenty in the past. The problem is that I need time to rest to be able to heal and right now, I have no idea of when we will even take a break longer than 2 minutes. never mind long enough for me to heal.

We start walking again, and the closer we get to the pack borders the more eager we both become when I sudder 

1. ng. “I don’t swaying and reaching out for Lily to get some support. “What’s wrong?” I shake my head trying to rid myself of this d.. feel good. I’m not sure how much longer I can keep going.” The look of sadness and panic on her face makes my heart ache. “Don’t say that, Bon. We’re so close. You’re gonna be fine. I’ll help you.” I love this girl so much. 

“I’m going to try my best, Lil. We’ve come too far for something to go wrong now but if I don’t or can’t make it all the way, then you have to leave me and get your ass out of here. I know you want to argue with me about this but we don’t have the time for it. I need you to promise me. We’ve come too far for you to be taken back there. Promise me please, Lily!” By the time I’m finished, I’m begging her for this promise but I need it. As much as I hate to admit it, I don’t think I’m going to last much longer and I can’t let her suffer because of that. Of course, Lily being Lily doesn’t agree and despite my words, she still wants to go against what I said. 

“Can we help you, young ladies?” Oh shit! Those words make both Lily and I freeze in place and slowly turn around to be greeted by two very large older men. I’m pretty sure they are Warriors and I’m also pretty sure that we have just been caught. Fuck! This can’t be happening, I won’t let it. I doubt I would be able to outrun them right now. I’m not saying it would come to that, but if it does then I sure as hell can help Lily to run from them. “We are fine, gentlemen. Thank you for the kind offer.” Lily manages to hold a bright happy smile on her face as she speaks to the Warriors while I can just about manage to hold myself up. 

They both give us strange looks but stay still which I’m thankful for. Maybe, just maybe, Lily can talk our way out of this mess. “What are you doing out here?” Lily smiles and takes a step closer to me. “We were just out for a walk. We’ve been attending the ball this evening but got tired of it all so decided to head out here for a walk before going to bed.” 

They don’t seem convinced and I get it. They stumble upon two she–wolves out in the forest close to the border late at night with backpacks, let’s be honest, no one would believe Lily’s story but I love her even more for trying. One of the guard’s eyes glaze over showing he’s mind–linking with someone so I decided to use the opportunity while he’s distracted. “Lily, run!” I bellow as I lunge at the other guard enough to startle him and cause him to fall over.

I look for Lily to find her in the same spot, she hasn’t moved an inch. “Lily, go! please, go!” She shakes her head with tears in her

ground beneath me move but quickly realize that it’s the guy that I pushed. “NOW! LILY RUN!” Finally, I see her eyes flicker as reality sets in and she realises that I’m not lying. I won’t make it but she can. She also knows that if things were the other way around she would do 

the same. 

I let out a raw as I’m thrown from the guy’s body and watch Lily run just as the other guard that was mind–linking comes back to the now and sees that things have turned into a shit show. He grabs my shoulder and pulls hard causing me to cry out in pain. “Go and get her!” He bellows to the other guy sending him after Lily while he starts dragging me back through the forest and towards the pack house. I know I should be sad right now and worried about what’s to come but I’m not. Instead, I find myself just praying that Lily will get away and get to live her life. Please! Please! Please!
