Ava was no mind reader, so she had no idea what they were thinking. Instead, her thoughts. drifted to Jonathan as she wondered, Things should be going well, right? 

To be honest, she knew that what she did was messed up. After all, she was basically tossing her matches aside after seeing that things had turned out for the better. 

Still, it wasn’t as if she had a choice. For starters, the Match Bureau had matched her with not one, not two, but five matches. That was too many! As for the other reason… Well, those men were too talented for someone like her. She was self–aware enough to know that much. 

Honestly, it was better for all of them if they could just end things now instead of dragging things out. Then, she could go about her business searching for a partner she could actually handle. 

Ava wanted to bid Lianne goodbye after eating her fill. Alas, she couldn’t find the proper opportunity to do so. In the end, she did her best to become one with the wallpaper in the 

room. 

Lianne was the only one who was genuinely enjoying her food. She was still very much a child at heart, and utterly oblivious to the tension in the atmosphere. Instead, she continued to stuff her cheeks like a chipmunk. 

Just then, Mason’s Holoband lit up with an incoming call. The screen shone with the name “Cassius.” 

Cassius Langford was Mason’s maternal cousin. Although they were a decade apart in age and 

Mason had a full–blooded brother of his own, he was actually closer to Cassius. 

So, he rose to his feet and left the room to answer the call. Meanwhile, the others said nothing as they scrolled through their respective Holobands. 

It seemed that Cassius‘ call was a sign as several of them received messages from their families. The texts all said the same thing–come home immediately. 

Ethan exchanged a glance with Ryan before ending the call with their parents. Then, he texted them back, saying, ‘We’ll explain everything once we get home.’ 

Laurent and Keith also locked their Holobands as they felt an impending headache coming on. How did their families find out about that so quickly? 

None of them had bothered to inform their families that they’d been forcefully matched. Regardless, they had tried to reach out to their assigned partners. Unfortunately, that never responded. They didn’t even bother accepting their friend request until now.

Lianne noticed the odd look on Laurent’s face. However, she had no idea what or who put it there. So, she mumbled through a mouthful of food, “You should go if it’s urgent. I can go home by myself.” 

He reassured her, saying, “Don’t worry. It’s nothing serious.” 

A few minutes later, Mason returned to the private room, looking unfazed. “I have some personal affairs to attend to, so I’ll be leaving now. See you around,” he said casually. 

Before he left, his gaze lingered on Ava. “Ms. Morren, I hear you’re new to Capitol Planet. I’m sorry if I’m being too forward, but are you related to the Morren family, specifically to Mr. Jonathan Morren?” 

Ava was confused. She had no idea why he would ask her something like this. Still, she reluctantly answered, “Jonathan Morren is my great–granduncle.” 

Mason’s lips curled into a faint yet meaningful smile. “Well, isn’t that quite the coincidence.” 

His cryptic words and barely there smile only served to confuse her further. What did he mean by coincidence? 

“I’m guessing you’ve all received the same news. What fun!” he drawled as he glanced at the other men. Then, he left without so much as a by your leave. 

Although the men were already about to leave because of the same reason Mason had left, they couldn’t help but notice the odd smile he’d given them earlier. 

It was an open secret that Mason didn’t get along with the Heiser family. Hence, the Heiser family had never been able to meddle in his affairs. 

“Take care, guys! Ava and I are going to keep hanging out for a little longer,” she said, waving as they got up to leave. 

Honestly, Ava wanted to book it as well. Alas, she found it painfully hard to say no to Lianne, so she stayed. 

Soon, there were only two of them left in the private room. Ava felt her muscles relaxing as she wondered, Lianne’s so preppy. Not in a bad way! It’s just… Did she really not notice how tense everyone else had been earlier? 

Ethan called out to Mason when they were out of Elysian. “What were you getting at earlier?” 

Mason snapped his fingers as he strode toward his ride with a devilish grin. “Whatever do you mean? I always mean what I say.” 

Ethan was far from convinced. Sadly, his family didn’t exactly share the details with him. earlier, so he had no idea how they’d even found out about that disaster in the first place. Could

Mason languidly slid into his hovercar. Then, he swung an arm out of the window as he looked at the Brock brothers with a smirk. “Why are you wasting your time playing games when you could just go home? You’ll find out soon enough.” 

Ryan’s lips pulled into a frown as he watched Mason disappear from his line of sight. “What’s with all the riddles? God, I hate it when people refuse to tell it to me straight.” 

Keith’s eyes flickered with a hint of what seemed like understanding. 

Then, he clapped Ryan’s shoulder and said, “He’s right, you know. You’ll know what’s going on once you go home.” However, his eyes shifted toward Ethan and Laurent as he added, “Gentlemen, remember to update the rest of us on the group chat once you’ve received any news.” 

Laurent didn’t bother with a response. Instead, he simply started up his light armored vehicle and drove off. 

Ethan continued to stand there quietly as he watched them leave one after another. 

Ryan grumbled under his breath, “Why the hell are they so cryptic? It’s just my luck that I end up stuck with them as partners to the same match.” 

“Let’s go,” Ethan said lowly before Ryan could continue ranting. 

It was nearly 4 p.m. by the time Ava got home. Lianne had wanted to drag her out for dinner too, but Ava could no longer keep up with that bundle of energy. So, she promised Lianne that they’d hang out some other day before leaving. 

However, the Morren Residence was empty when she got there. So, she trudged back to her room, threw herself on the bed, and fell asleep.
