With that, she quickly looked away, not interested in wasting another moment on him. 

Then, she turned and walked away. 

Cassian didn’t say another word. He just stood there, watching her leave. 

It wasn’t until a long while later that he finally lit a cigarette. Smoke curled around him, making him look even more grim and cold. 

He slowly melted into the darkness. 

After her shower, Aurelia saw that Mia had tried to video call her. She casually dried her hair and picked up her phone to video call Mia back. 

Mia answered almost instantly, “Finished?” 

“Yeah, I was just in the shower,” Aurelia replied. 

“Did you enjoy yourself today?” Mia asked, meaning the mentor party. 

She’d wanted to take time off to celebrate with Aurelia, but the production team wouldn’t let her. 

“A little bit of both,” Aurelia replied. 

When Mia pressed for details, Aurelia finally told her about Cassian and Tessa. 

“Those two are seriously nuts! I can’t take it anymore!” Mia started ranting without hesitation. “And who does Cassian think he is, saying stuff like that?” 

“I can’t be bothered,” Aurelia replied. 

“Exactly! Just ignore him, don’t give him any respect!” Mia agreed. 

“And there’s something else… Gideon confessed to me,” Aurelia added. 

Mia instantly got hyped. “No way! He finally said it? He must’ve been dying to get that off his chest after all these years!” 

Aurelia had already told Mia about that email, so Mia knew Gideon had a thing for Aurelia for eight years. 

“Honestly, I didn’t think he’d ever actually put it out in the open,” Aurelia admitted.

Not a single note was on pitch, and honestly, it was kind of painful to listen to. 

“Honestly, I’m not really fussed about it,” Aurelia said.

“Just give it a shot,” Mia said, knowing exactly what Aurelia was thinking but still trying to nudge her. “What if you two actually click? What if this is fate? What if you end up catching feelings for him? 

“Just because you don’t feel anything now doesn’t mean you never will. Can’t feelings grow over time?” 

“The idea that you can just grow feelings for someone is basically a myth,” Aurelia shot back. “If all it took was time and love to make someone fall for you, then literally anyone could fall in love with anyone else.” 

Mia looked up at the ceiling, exasperated. “Babe, you’ve got some serious relationship PTSD.” 

And every time this topic came up, Mia just had to drag Cassian out for another round of roasting in her mind. 

“Fine, fine, I’ll give it a try,” Aurelia finally gave in. Guess she would just give herself a shot. 

“Hold on, didn’t you have a whole queue of admirers waiting their turn?” Mia suddenly remembered all the other guys crushing on Aurelia. 

“If anyone deserves to be first in line, it’s Gideon, he’s been waiting eight years,” Aurelia replied. 

Mia shrugged. “True that.”

Once Aurelia was done talking about herself, she switched gears and asked about Mia. “How’s work been treating you lately?” 

“It’s alright,” Mia said, but her gaze shifted uncasily. 

Aurelia caught it instantly and paused mid–dry. “Hey, what’s going on? Did you run into some trouble? 

“Oh, it’s nothing big,” Mia said, trying to sound casual. “The third female lead the investors shoved in keeps demanding more screen time, even stealing my highlight scenes. I tried talking to the writer, but they just shot me down.” 

Aurelia’s eyes turned cold. “I’ll have a word with the head producer later.” 

‘So they wanna play the connections game, huh? Do they really think Mia’s got no one backing her up? 

‘She’s worked her ass off to get where she is. If I can’t have her back, then what’s 

Aurelia thought. 

Mia quickly waved her off. “No need to go nuclear over this, I can handle it myself…e been in the game long enough to know how to deal with this kind of crap.” 

“Just let me know if you ever need backup,” Aurelia said. 

“You got it!” Mia replied.

Alina helped Tessa with the swelling on her face before asking about what happened tonight. 

“I was secretly planning to talk to Aurelia without Cassian knowing, but Karlie caught on and exposed me,” Tessa said. 

“So what did Cassian say?” Alina asked. 

Tessa adjusted the ice pack on her face. “He told me to stay away from her from now on.” 

Alina frowned, concern in her voice. “That was all he said? Nothing else?” 

“That’s it,” Tessa replied, sounding a bit resigned. 

“He didn’t even bring up ending the engagement?” Alina pressed. 

“Not a word,” Tessa answered. 

Alina was torn. Part of her felt relieved, but she couldn’t shake off the anxiety. 

None of them could make sense of Cassian’s mood lately; it was like living with a storm cloud overhead, always tense and uneasy. 

Karlie whispered, “Honestly, I think Cassian’s just looking out for you. He doesn’t want you getting hurt by Aurelia, so he can’t bear to let you go face her.”

“Now that you put it that way, it does make sense,” Alina agreed. 

Tessa felt a little more at case, but with the real issue still unresolved, she couldn’t let her guard down just yet. 

Just when she thought things couldn’t get any worse, another wave of trouble hit. 

The CEO of Celestium Financial, Brett Ledger, reached out to Tessa, demanding she pay back the monthly installments and interest ahead of schedule. 

“Mr. Ledger, isn’t this a bit much?” Tessa blurted out. She never expected Celestium! money like this.
