For a moment, Eric’s eyes were glued to the Share Transfer Agreement. He couldn’t tear his eyes away. 

He couldn’t help but stare at it, over and over. When he finally looked up, hem meaning.

Eric scratched his nose, feeling a bit awkward. Since Shepard had already noticed, he decided to just be upfront about it. 

“What’s a Share Transfer Agreement doing here?” Eric said with a grin. “When I saw it, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I had to double–check a few times just to be sure.” 

Shepard replied coolly, “You’re not seeing things.” 

“Shepard, what shares are being transferred? Whose shares are they?” Eric asked. “Is it from Carter Group, or is it Briana’s Dreamscape Corporation?” 

Shepard took his time sipping his coffee, not answering right away. 

After thinking for a moment, Eric said, “I guess it’s Dreamscape Corporation, right? Shepard, are you going to invest in shares?” 

‘After all, we’re talking ten billion here,‘ Shepard thought. ‘Letting Briana have all of it would be a pretty bad deal. This brand’s definitely going to blow up, and when it does, the profits will be insane. Who’d ever say no to more cash?‘ 

Evelyn finally spoke, “It’s Carter Group’s. The shares are under my name.” 

“They’re yours, Grandma?” Eric felt a jolt of anxiety and couldn’t help but ask, “Are you giving all your shares to Shepard?” 

‘Guess that means I’m out of the running,‘ Eric thought. He’d been hoping Evelyn might let him have a piece of the pie. ‘I’m her grandson too.’ 

Honestly, Eric felt he deserved at least a little something, both by family ties and common sense. 

If all of it went to Shepard, Eric would definitely be pissed. 

Evelyn replied, “Not to him.” 

Eric let out a sigh of relief. 

“To Briana,” Evelyn said.

Chapter 157 

Eric was totally floored, left speechless for a long moment. 

‘Not to Shepard, not to me, but to Briana? An outsider?‘ Eric thought. ‘Briana’s not even a Carter and hasn’t even given the Carter family a single kid, so how does she get all these benefits handed to her for nothing? 

Eric was practically losing his mind with jealousy. 

This made Eric even more jealous than if Shepard had gotten it. 

‘Why Briana? What did she ever do to deserve this?‘ Eric grumbled to himself. 

At least Shepard was the head of the Carter family. He had chops and brains. Eric knew he couldn’t beat him, so he could only accept it. 

But Briana? He just couldn’t get over it. 

But Eric couldn’t just say it out loud. “Grandma.” Eric finally managed to steady himself after a long pause. “Are you saying you’re giving all your Carter Group shares to Briana?” 

“That’s right,” Evelyn nodded. “Just a little token of my appreciation for Briana.” 

Eric was at a complete loss for words. He wasn’t in any position to stop it. But agreeing to it was out of the question. All he could do was grit his teeth and swallow his frustration. 

“Grandma, you just went ahead and made such a big decision without telling anyone first?” Eric said, forcing a laugh. 

“It’s my stuff. I get to decide who gets it,” Evelyn shot him a look. “Got a problem with that?” 

‘Hell yeah, I do,‘ Eric fumed inwardly. 

But on the outside, Eric just waved it off. “No, no, of course not.” 

He went to sit down on the couch. But he was so rattled, lost in his own thoughts, that he nearly missed the seat and almost landed on the floor. 

He grabbed the armrest just in time, steadied himself, and sat firmly back dow. rcing out a dry laugh. 

Eric knew his pathetic acting wasn’t fooling Evelyn or Shepard for a second. 

But he just couldn’t shake off the annoyance. He was Evelyn’s grandson, and he ended up with nothing at all. 

But Briana, who wasn’t even family, walked away with the whole jackpot! He thought this was so unfair. 

Evelyn just ignored him, not even bothering to send him away. 

It was already a done deal anyway. 

“Briana,” Evelyn said, her smile soft and kind as she looked at her, “The Legal Department just whipped this up. It should be good to go. Just give it a look and sign when you’re ready.”

Evelyn had only mentioned it this morning, and now the contract was sitting right in front of her. All that was left was Briana’s signature. 

“Grandma Evelyn,” Briana said, still not picking up the pen, “I’ve really accept it.”

Evelyn shot him a frown. “Why are you so jumpy and all over the place? If you’re so worked up, then go outside. Stop hanging around here and bothering us.” 

Eric was caught in the middle, unsure if he should leave or stick around. He wanted to see if Briana would actually sign it. 

‘She’s gotta sign it, right?‘ Eric thought. ‘She’s just putting on an act, playing the polite card. But Grandma has already told me to leave. Am I really going to just linger here after that?‘ 

“I–I’ll just have some coffee, Grandma,” Eric stammered, trying to cover up his rrassment. 

He picked up his cup, his hand shaking so much that he nearly spilled it. 

Shepard sat back, eyeing Eric with a bored, contemptuous, and icy stare. 

Briana wasn’t even noticing what was happening around her. She was just racking her brain, trying to figure out how to say no. 

“Grandma Evelyn, I really can’t take this. No matter how you look at it, it just doesn’t feel right for me to get all these shares,” Briana said, sounding determined. 

“If I’m giving them to you, then just take them,” Evelyn replied. 

“No, I can’t just take something I didn’t work for,” Briana protested.

Briana felt like the pen in her hand weighed a ton, and she could barely hold onto it. 

She didn’t want it, but Evelyn was determined to give it to her anyway. 

Meanwhile, Eric was sitting there, dying to get his hands on it, but he didn’t get a single thing. 

The room suddenly went dead silent, the air thick and heavy. 

After about half a minute, Evelyn let out a sigh. “Briana, you’re really not giving me any face here. It’s breaking my heart!” 

Evelyn pounded her chest for dramatic effect, letting out exaggerated sighs and shaking her head, as if she were truly heartbroken. 

Briana bit her lip, her knuckles turning white as she clutched the pen, torn and arvious.
