The members of the Blaze Squad had each found their own rooms and were just about to settle in when they heard whistles coming from downstairs.Â
Chloe instantly jumped up from her bed and looked at Emily. “WiÂ

Hearing this, Filip instinctively moved closer to Chloe. “Chloe, do you think it’s those scavengers?”Â
She gently patted his head. “If it is, even better. We’ll finally have a chance to get revenge.Â
“No, I want to get my revenge myself,” Filip said, his eyes shining with determination.Â
“Alright, when the time comes, we’ll let you take care of it yourself, Filip,” Chloe replied with a smile.Â
Outside, one could hear Peyton and his crew marching by.Â
Chloe sat down cross–legged and began cultivating, cores scattered all around her. She quickly absorbed every last one of them.Â
The night passed in the blink of an eye.Â
At seven in the morning, it was still pitch black outside; you couldn’t even see your own hand. The soldiers were already fully geared up and ready to head out.Â
The members of the Blaze Squad were waking up one after another.Â
William came over with a lantern in hand. “Captain Yates, we need to move quickly today. We have to make it to the Medical Tower before it gets dark.”Â
“What happened?” Chloe asked.Â
William’s worry deepened. “Just got some news; there’s a crazy strong mutÂ
we don’t hurry, the soldiers inside could be wiped out.”Â
William scratched his head awkwardly as he spoke.Â

Honestly, the army’s powered humans weren’t exactly top–tier. If they wanted to get everyone out in one piece, they would probably have to count on the Blaze Squad.Â
William couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow.Â
The world had changed; now, powered humans ruled the scene. Military weapons were on their way out, soon to be nothing but history.Â
William was sure that if Graham hadn’t called in the Blaze Squad, not a single soldier would’ve made it out alive.Â

Times were changing, and the way the army worked needed a serious shake–up; they had to bring in some fresh talent.Â
But with resources so tight and most of it going to the refugees, none of the strong powered humans wanted anything to do with the army.Â
“Captain Yates, would you be interested in joining the military? Gral care of,” William suddenly blurted out.Â
Chloe shot him down without a second thought.Â
nake sure you guys are takenÂ
“To be honest, we’re not planning to stay at the base for long, so, sorry, we’ll have to decline,” she replied.Â
William immediately got anxious. “Why? Is it because you’re not comfortable living at the base? I can talk to Graham and have him arrange a villa for you in the Elite District.”Â
Chloe shook her head. “It’s not about you guys. I only came here to look for my family. Now that I’ve found them, I won’t be staying much longer.”Â
Peyton walked over, and when he heard Chloe’s answer, his eyes lost some of their shine.Â
“Captain Yates, do you guys have any plans on where you’ll head next?” Peyton asked.Â
Chloe shook her head. “Not yet, but we’re not leaving just yet.”Â
William let out a big sigh of relief. “Glad to hear it, really glad.”Â
The troops were getting ready to move out.Â
The refugees who had come along with them last night refused to be left behind and insisted on joining the group, afraid the squad would forget about them after the job was done.Â
As Ramon and his crew headed upstairs, they spotted Chloe with Filip by her side, holding her hand.Â
Filip still hadn’t had a chance to shower, but he was dressed in clean clothes, and his little face looked a lot rosier now, even though it was still a bit dry.Â
Ramon grinned at Filip, “Hey, you little rascal, you just left without saying a looking for you.”Â
Filip, a little intimidated by Ramon, quickly hid behind Chloe.Â

Ramon acted like he was just now noticing Chloe, his gaze lingering on her face with a hungry look.Â
“Young lady, were you rescued by the soldiers, too? Don’t be scared. These guys are easy to talk to and really kind,” he said.Â
As he spoke, he could feel all the soldiers watching him.Â
Ramon puffed out his chest, looking proud.Â

He thought they were staring at him because he was praising them.Â

He was too busy trying to show off in front of Chloe to notice the strange looks the soldiers were giving him.Â
He straightened his hair, ready to say something else, but Peyton inÂ

“Let’s move out,” Peyton ordered.Â
The soldiers were all decked out in their gear, marching forward in perfect formation, standing tall and proud.Â
Ramon and his scavenger crew squeezed into the group, walking right alongside Chloe.Â
When Chloe wasn’t looking, Ramon shot Filip a fierce glare.Â
But the moment Filip glanced over, Ramon instantly switched back to his friendly, smiling face.Â
“You’ve got a soft heart, girl, but don’t let this kid fool you. He’s got a few tricks up his sleeve,” Ramon said with a grin.Â
He just thought Chloe was holding Filip’s hand because she felt sorry for him.Â
Chloe paused and gave him a cold stare. “Do you really think you get to decide what kind of person my brother is?”Â
“Your brother?” Ramon paused, a bit taken aback.Â
He glanced at their faces again and, yeah, there was definitely a family resemblance.Â
“So he’s your brother! That explains why he looked so familiar.Â
“He was out with us hunting for supplies, then just vanished. Never thought I’d bump into him again,” Ramon chuckled..Â
Ramon kept fishing for conversation, then carefully pulled an energy bar out of his pocket.Â
“The soldiers gave me this last night. I saved it for you,” he said, handing it over.Â
Filip rolled his eyes. ‘Seriously? With Chloe around, like we need your charity,‘ he thought.Â
Thinking that, Filip grabbed the bar and gave Ramon his sweetest smile.Â
“Thanks, sir,” he said.Â
‘Perfect, this guy swiped all my stuff before, time to get a little payback, Filip thought.Â
Chloe glanced at Filip and went along with it. “Guess my little brother was really hungry,” she said.Â
Several soldiers nearby nearly stumbled.Â

Isn’t Captain Yates blushing right now?‘ they thought.Â

But they weren’t the gossiping type. After a quick glance, they just minded their own business.Â
When Ramon saw Chloe smile at him, all his anger just melted awarÂ
“No problem at all. As long as I can help you, that’s what mattersÂ
As he spoke, Ramon shot Filip a hard glare, his words squeezed out between clenched teeth.Â
“Hey, Filip, we’ve gone out looking for supplies together more than a few times. How come you never told me you had such a stunning cousin?” Ramon asked.Â
“Yeah, that’s right! I only ever heard you had a cute little sister, but your big cousin’s even more beautiful, another scavenger chimed in.Â
Another guy came up from behind and nudged Emily out of the way.Â
Chloe raised an eyebrow. Are they trying to play some kind of trick?‘ she wondered.Â
“Oh, maybe Filip just thought you guys weren’t trustworthy, and he was worried I’d get into trouble,” Chloe said with a teasing smile.Â
The guy on the left snickered. “Come on, you think Ramon’s not reliable? He’s a legend among scavengers. If you roll with him, you’re set-”Â
Chloe suddenly stopped and gave him a playful smirk. “So, you’re rolling with him?”Â
The guy sputtered, flustered. “Whoa, hey, we’re both dudes!”Â
