Chapter 153

Chloe felt it even more intensely, like she was being singled out. The sense of being targeted was almost tangible.

“Everyone, stay hidden!” Molly shouted.

Suddenly, a mutant Frostbeast burst out of the snow, its body covered in white fur with spines nearly eight inches long, sharp as a hedgehog’s quills.

It stood 15 feet tall, with snow–white hands as big as washbasins. Its sharp black claws glinted with a dark, poisonous shine, obviously deadly.

Its massive, blood–red eyes were fixed on Chloe, not blinking once.

It was huge and heavyset, and each step it took shook the earth.

Everyone froze in shock.

“Mortars ready! Fire!” William snapped into action, moving in front of Chloe and the others to protect them.

The mortars they’d brought were aimed right at the 15–feet–tall mutant Frostbeast.

It had noticed Chloe long ago. She looked like a tasty snack. But seeing how strong she was, the mutant Frostbeast had hesitated, unsure if it should risk attacking her.

But now, to its surprise, that strong energy around her had vanished.

But he was totally outmatched. His punch didn’t even scratch the mutant Frostbeast’s spiky white fur. He was sent flying like a rag doll with a single kick.

The soldiers‘ eyes went red with fury as they threw themselves at the mutant Frostbeast, guns blazing, desperate and reckless.

The bullets just bounced off its spiky white fur with a harsh metallic clang, never even scratching that armor.

Chloe yelled at the soldiers, “Hand over your crystal cores! All of you, fall back!”

The first wave got ripped to shreds, but the second wave rushed in anyway, putting themselves between Chloe and the mutant Frostbeast.

They were under strict orders. They would protect Chloe at all costs!

These guys were stubborn as bricks, only following orders from above. Chloe kept shouting, but none of them even looked her way.

She couldn’t help but roll her eyes in exasperation.

“Peyton, pull your men back! That’s a fourth–level mutant Frostbeast!” Chloe shouted.

For a split second, everything went dead silent.

Seeing the soldiers throwing themselves at the mutant Frostbeast like lemmings, Chloe yelled at the mutant cheetah, “Hey, what are you doing just lying there? Get in the fight!”

The mutant cheetah just rolled over on Noah and went right back to sleep.

‘I’m just gonna lie here. I’m just gonna lie here. Bet it pisses you off, you crazy lady, the mutant cheetah thought smugly.

But it didn’t even get a chance to sulk before a huge hand grabbed it by the scruff and hurled it straight into the fray.

‘Roar! Damn you, Noah!‘ The mutant cheetah snarled.

While still airborne, the mutant cheetah morphed from an adorable fluffball into a beast that now towered over the mutant Frostbeast.

Its golden fur bristled like a field of steel spikes.

When two titans collided, only the bold survived!

The snow–white and golden beasts went at it, and nobody dared get close.

The mutant Frostbeast and the mutant cheetah were neck and neck, and after just a few seconds of brawling, both were already bleeding and sporting fresh battle scars.

“Phantom Zombie, Noah, get in there and help out!” Chloe yelled.

Phantom Zombie blinked out of sight and popped up right behind the mutant Frostbeast. She smacked its back, but those nasty spikes shredded her hand, leaving it dripping with black blood.

Chloe hurriedly called him off, floored by how insanely tough this mutant Frostbeast’s armor was.

“Everyone, keep up the long–range attacks on the mutant Frostbeast! Give Spotty some breathing room!” Chloe shouted.

Spotty was the cat name Chloe had given the mutant cheetah, and every time it heard that name, its fur would bristle in outrage.

‘I’m not Spotty!‘ the mutant cheetah fumed inwardly.

The instant the snow–white and golden beasts split apart, a lightning bolt as thick as a dinner plate came crashing down from the sky.

The mutant Frostbeast was left charred and smoking, its white fur giving off the nasty smell of burnt hair.

Phantom Girl kept messing with its mind, making the mutant Frostbeast so dizzy and confused that it started running around like a headless chicken. It was so lost that it actually ran straight back toward them.

Mindy kept blasting it with fire, and everyone with ranged abilities threw everything they had at the mutant Frostbeast.

Even if they didn’t do much damage, they still managed to make things a real pain for the mutant Frostbeast.

Noah and Spotty’s attacks hit the hardest, finally punching through its defenses and leaving a fresh wound on its belly.

“Hurry! Hit that wound with everything you’ve got!” Chloe yelled.

With her order, everyone unleashed their powers at the bloody spot on its belly.

The mutant Frostbeast screamed in pain, its cries echoing through the snow.

“Awooo. Awooo.” The sound was piercing and shrill.

Chloe narrowed her eyes. “Damn, she’s summoning reinforcements!”

She accelerated, absorbing cores in rapid succession until her energy surged back to its peak.

Chloe launched herself like a loosed arrow, and as the mutant Frostbeast was still howling, an ice arrow suddenly shot through the gaping wound in its belly.
