“What about the other Frostbeast? That one looked even bigger and tougher,” one of the soldiers blurted out. 

Just thinking about how the second Frostbeast got taken out made the guy with t his heart racing with excitement. 

“Hurry up and tell us already!” someone urged.

Even the usually disciplined soldiers were so impatient, they wanted to rough this guy up; they were all dying to know. 

Even William was hanging on every word, clearing his throat and speaking with extra gravity. 

“Captain Yates split the last Frostbeast clean in two with just one swing of his sword,” the soldier announced. 

Everyone sucked in a breath, stunned. 

‘What?‘ All eyes locked onto the guy with the binoculars, faces full of disbelief. 

William felt like his whole world had been turned upside down, but he just couldn’t wrap his head around it. He asked again, “What did you just say?” 

“Captain Yates sliced that late–stage fourth–level Frostbeast clean in half with a single swing of his sword,” the soldier repeated. 

“She blinked out of sight and popped up in the air, holding this insane 30–foot sword, then came crashing down from above and split the Frostbeast right down the middle,” the soldier went on. 

As he spoke, the guy with the binoculars looked completely blown away, like he still couldn’t believe what he’d just seen. 

Blaze Squad was pretty much out of commission, except for Spotty and Noah. Peyton had to scoop them up in the pickup truck and bring them back. 

Filip had finally woken up, but he still looked sickly from days without food. 

When he opened his eyes and saw soldiers all around him, wrapped in a warm blanket, his nose stung, and he almost burst into tears. 

‘I’m actually alive. I’m not dead,‘ Filip thought, still in shock. 

“Thank you, sir,” Filip said and smiled, his voice trembling with gratitude. 

William waved his hand. “Kid, you’re finally awake. Must be starving, right? Your cousin will be here soon.” 

Since the food in the tribe was all tough and dry, they just gave Filip some water to start with. 

“Cousin?” Filip repeated, looking a bit puzzled.

For a moment, Filip was confused, then suddenly remembered. “Wait, you mean Chloe?” he asked, realization dawning on his face.

He had big eyes, and his delicate features were still babyish, looking almost exactly like Chiara, except his face had a more heroic vibe to it. 

“Filip?” Chloe asked softly. 

“Chloe,” Filip said, his voice trembling. 

He rushed into her arms, nose stinging and voice shaky with emotion. 

“I thought I’d never see you again,” Filip said, voice trembling. 

“Don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen to you. Chiara and Linda are waiting for you back at the base,” Chloe said, holding him tight. 

Filip’s stomach growled loudly. 

His face turned bright red with embarrassment. 

With a wave of her hand, Chloe magically produced a cup of soup and some muffins. 

“You must be starving. Here, eat up,” Chloe said. 

Filip blinked in surprise, his mouth hanging open. 

“Chloe has got space powers, you know. She’s loaded with supplies, so dig in and don’t be shy,” Emily said with a grin as she walked over. 

‘This little guy is just way too adorable. I wish I could just claim him as my own little cousin, Emily thought. 

Filip stared at the tasty food in his hands, swallowed hard, but he just couldn’t bear to eat it yet. 

At the base, a muffin could be traded for a bunch of grass cakes, enough to feed a whole family for half a month.

“Alright, here’s the deal. That alley’s way too narrow for our trucks to get through. Any chance you could store all this gear in your spiritual space?” William asked. 

Honestly, it’d be a shame to just toss it. 

“Of course, if your spiritual space can’t fit it all, no worries. We can just leave it here for now and grab it after we finish our mission,” William added. 

Chloe glanced at the dozen massive military pickups and nodded in agreement. 

All the soldiers armed themselves and climbed out. With a wave of her hand, every single truck vanished on the spot. 

She made sure to collect every zombie core from the trucks before storing them away. 

It was all part of the deal: Blaze Squad got them the meds, and every zombie co theirs to keep.

Chloe noticed and asked gently, “What’s wrong?” 

Filip’s voice shook as he explained, “There’s a big building right next to the Evergreen Hotel. That’s where I escaped from.”

Chloe could see the fear in Filip’s eyes as he spoke, like something awful had happened to him in that building. 

She gently patted his back to comfort him. 

“Don’t worry, I’m here,” Chloe said softly. 

Just like in her previous life, Filip always used to reassure her, saying, “It’s okay. I’ve got your back.” 

Chloe handed out all the cores she’d collected to her teammates, and as they walked, each of them absorbed the cores to restore their energy. 

The group moved into the alley in an orderly fashion, stepping over the bodies of powered humans and zombies scattered everywhere. It was clear that a fierce battle had just gone down. 

At first, they only ran into a few zombies, but the deeper they went, the more kept pouring out, charging at them one after another. 

Luckily, they were all just regular zombies or level–one ones, mindlessly lunging at them with nothing but instinct to bite. 

Even the powered humans among the soldiers could handle them without breaking a sweat. 

This place was zombie central. If those three mutant Frostbeasts hadn’t shown up and kept all the high–level zombies at bay, they’d be in deep trouble. 

Otherwise, they would’ve been in for another nasty battle. 

During the fight, Emily barely used her powers; now she was just playing guide for the group. 

She shut her eyes, and instantly, the whole layout of the alleys was mapped out in her head. “Almost every exit is blocked off, and the only way out is just a solid wall.” 

“But there’s an elite third–level zombie lurking over there,” she added. 

Back when Blaze Squad was at full strength, an elite third–level zombie would’ve could’ve wiped it out without breaking a sweat.
