Chapter 106 Seeking Ethan’s HelpÂ
Ethan paused mid–step on the stairs.Â
He turned back to Emily, his voice as cold as frost, devoid of any warmth. “What? Something on your mind?”Â
Nancy appeared at the top of the landing. Spotting Ethan, she beamed with a sunny smile. “Ethan, you’re back?”Â
Seeing Emily fall silent, Ethan shifted his attention to Nancy, replying casually, “Yeah. Why not catch a few more winks?”Â
Nancy was draped in a silky nightgown, her hair cascading loosely over her shoulders, exuding a charming laziness, her eyes brimming with tender affection.Â
She kept her voice hushed, almost conspiratorial. “It got a bit noisy, so I couldn’t drift off again.”Â
Emily couldn’t help but wonder if Nancy had been lou after an intimate morning with Ethan.Â

Ethan climbed the stairs, standing beside Nancy, but his eyes remained fixed on Emily below. “Next time, you can come up a little later,” he said.Â
Emily froze. The words she had meant to say to Ethan caught ip/her throat.Â

In that moment, she realized the truth–Ethan and Andrew were on the same side. If she pleaded with him, he would inevitably favor his friend.Â
She offered no reply, averting her eyes from him entirely.Â
Ethan raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised by her attitude, but didn’t press.Â
After a pause, he asked again, “So… what was it you wanted to say just now?”Â
Emily’s response was curt and icy. “Nothing.”Â
And just like that, their exchange fizzled out.Â
Ethan and Nancy retreated to their room, leaving Emily to check on Sophia at breakfast.Â
Once Sophia finished eating, Emily drove her to school.Â
As the car hummed along, Emily couldn’t hold back any .onger. “Sophie, would you mind doing me a little favor?”Â
Sophia, engrossed in a game on her phone, looked up curiously. “What kind of favor, Mommy?”Â
They hit a red light just then. Emily brought the car to a stopÂ
and turned to face her daughter. “You know Mr. Robinson,Â
2/6 right?”Â

Sophia nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah, Mr. Robinson’s super nice to me.”Â
Emily forced a faint curve to her lips, though her eyes held no mirth. She pressed on. “Well, Mr. Robinson’s got a bit of a misunderstanding with one of my friends. Would you be willing to put in a good word for Mommy’s friend with him?”Â
Sophia’s little face scrunched up in thought for a long moment before she shook her head. “Anyone Mr. Robinson doesn’t like can’t be a good person. Mommy, why do you even have friends like that?”Â
Emily’s brow furrowed as she stared at Sophia.Â
Undeterred, Sophia added, “Mommy, I can’t help with that.”Â
“What if I begged you?” Emily softened her voice, her eyes pleading with hopeful anticipation.Â
But Sophia didn’t grasp the nuance; instead, she turned the tables, lecturing earnestly. “Mommy, you should stay av. from anyone Mr. Robinson dislikes.”Â
Emily straightened up, her tone turning frosty. “Fine.”Â
The light turned green, and she slammed on the accelerator, the car surging forward with a roar.Â

The rest of the drive passed in heavy silence; neither of them said anything more.Â
It wasn’t until they neared the kindergarten that Sophia pip up again. “Mommy, can I ask you to do something for me toÂ
Emily’s expression remained detached, her voice cool and distant. “Sure, I’ll try my best.”Â
Sophia continued, “Could you not come over so early to make breakfast anymore? It disturbs Nancy’s sleep. If she doesn’t rest well, she won’t have the energy for her studies or playingÂ
music.”Â
Emily’s heart felt like it was being pierced by a blade—a mix of bitter amusement and helpless sorrow washed over her, but she didn’t reject the request.Â
She simply agreed. “Okay, sure.”Â

Over the next few days, Emily only went to Joy Gardens to pick up Sophia for school. She no longer made breakfast.Â
Sometimes she’d cross paths with Ethan, sometimes not. Other times, it was just Nancy she’d glimpse…Â

But none of that mattered anymore. The buzz around Aaron’s A/6. Blacklisting in the medical community had finally died down.Â

Even so, Aaron was still bombarded with threats andÂ
harassment.Â
He’d taken to powering off his phone to evade the relentless calls.Â
Come evening, though, he’d send Emily a quick message to let her know he was safe.Â
Emily knew he was fine, but hiding wasn’t a solution. The root of the problem was Andrew.Â
Now that the initial chaos had passed, she knew it wouldn’t be the last time Andrew stirred up trouble.Â
For days, Emily wrestled with the idea of approaching Ethan to sort it out.Â
After much internal debate, she received news that Ethan had whisked Nancy, Sophia, Andrew, and Shawn away for a beach vacation.Â
Scrolling through photos of them chasing waves, posing for snapshots, learning to swim, and diving into the depths, Emily’s restraint shattered.Â
She picked up the phone and called Ethan.Â
No matter what, Aaron was innocent in all this. Andrew’s 5/6Â

vendetta hadn’t just torpedoed his career–it had inflicted a crushing mental toll.Â
The phone rang a few times before Ethan picked up, the rhythmic crash of ocean waves clear in the background.Â
“Something wrong?” His voice was as chilly as ever, mingling with the surf pounding the shore.Â
Emily cut straight to the chase. “Yeah.”Â
Ethan paused, caught off guard, but recovered quickly. “ThenÂ
wait until I get back to talk about it.”Â
Emily could wait, but Aaron couldn’t.Â
If this continued, the next time, it wouldn’t be windows getting smashed–it could be Aaron himself.Â
Recognizing the urgency, she spoke again, firm andÂ
determined, “Can you make Andrew stop targeting Aaron?”Â
