Chapter 163Â
Mindy had a bold, commanding presence that turned heads wherever she went. Just one glance, and one could tell she was force to be reckoned with.Â
Her voice was seductive, but it kept the scavengers from even entertaining any wild ideas about her.Â
“Filip, Chloe told me to keep you safe. As for these creeps, you’ll have to deal with them yourself. Let’s see what your can do with your powers,” Mindy said.Â
Filip was stunned. He looked up at Mindy, pointing at himself. “Wait, you’re saying I’ve got powers?”Â
Tve got powers? How come I never knew?‘ he thought.Â
Mindy nodded. “Yep, Chloe and Molly both said you’ve got powers. You definitely do, you just haven’t awakened them yet.Â
“Molly? That cute girl who’s about my age?‘ Filip wondered. “Turns out she’s not just some regular girl, either.Â
He glanced at the scavengers collapsing on the ground, then beckoned to the one who always bullied him the most.Â
“You first,” Filip said.Â
No sooner had Chloe and her crew finished off a massive waveÂ
of piesÂ
than an even tougher horde came crashing in.Â
Just by looking, you could tell there were hundreds of first–level zombies, seventy or eighty second–levels, and more than a dozen third–level zombies leading the pack.Â
With a formation like that, they had more than enough firepower to wipe out a base.Â
James and Felix stood at the very front of the group, and when they saw that zombie horde bearing down on them, a chill ran down their spines.Â
Fear was written all over their bloodshot eyes.Â
There was no turning back now. James gritted his teeth and forced himself to speak to William behind him, “Major York, what do we do now?”Â
With that many third–level zombies out there, if their squad of powered humans charged in, it’d be suicide.Â
Sure, danger and exhaustion are one thing, but nobodyÂ
signing up to be cannon fodder.Â
James frowned. “Major York, looks like you’ll have to send in your powered humans.”Â
Dallas stepped back, her voice trembling with nerves. “Major York, give us some orders! Our powers are alright, but with that many third–level zombies, even if we go at them round after round, we’ll be completely wiped out.”Â
Charles watched as a massive horde of zombies swarmed toward them, still a few hundred feet away, and honestly, he felt like crap.Â
A chill ran down his spine, and cold sweat broke out all over him.Â
“I know I’m just cannon fodder, but at least let me die for something meaningful. Getting ripped apart by zombies for nothing? Man, that just sucks,” Charles muttered.Â
“The thing is, if we make it out alive, we can still back you up. But if we get torn apart, those zombies will just keep coming for you,” Charles added.Â
“Honestly, if we all charge in together, at least we might stand a chance,” Charles said.Â
Chapter 163Â
William ignored the rest and looked over at Chloe.Â
Other than Blaze Squad, he was the only late–stage third level in the whole artny.Â
Counting everyone up front, there were just three third–levels altogether, and the zombies were coming in hard.Â
When push came to shove, they’d have to count on the fourth–levels in Blaze Squad to turn the tideÂ
Chloe rolled her eyes.Â
“What do you think all those guns and cannons are for? Start shooting already!” she shot back.Â
With a wave of her hand, the soldiers instantly whipped out all their mortars, firearms, and grenades, ready for actionÂ
“Huh?” William was totally thrown off, staring in confusion.Â
After those mutant Frostbeasts shrugged off bullets like nothing, William couldn’t help but feel uncertain about whether the mortars would do any good.Â
Chloe caught on to what he was thinking and let out a sigh.Â
“Those three mutant Frostbeasts were all about defense. That kind of ability is insanely rare, you’d be lucky to see it once in a hundred million mutants,” she said.Â
“But for regular mutants, guns and ammo still work just fine,” Chloe added.Â
William finally snapped out orders, and his soldiers quickly set up the mortars, took aim, and fired.Â
With a deafening boom, the shells exploded right in the middle of the zombie horde. Zombies were torn apart, missing arms and legs, but they still clawed their way forward, just running on pure instinct.Â
Some had all their limbs blown off, wriggling forward like worms, hissing and snarling as they inched along.Â
William, the seasoned veteran, had his soldiers rain down mortar fire on the zombie horde, pounding them relentlessly.Â
Then he ordered all the powered humans to grab grenades and storm into the zombie horde.Â
Behind them, snipers took position, picking off zombies one by one; each shot blasting through a zombie’s skull.Â
Instead of fighting zombies this time, Blaze Squad focused on harvesting zombie cores.Â
Elise couldn’t take it anymore. She jabbed a finger at Chloe, her voice brimming with anger.Â
“Major York, why do Blaze Squad get to sit back and not fight zombies like the rest of us? That’s just not fair!” Elise snapped.Â
Elise was trying to turn everyone against Blaze Squad, hoping to get the soldiers pissed off enough to kick them out of theÂ
unit.Â
Elise had never actually seen Chloe fight, and she had no idea that every Frostbeast that showed up was taken out by Blaze Squad.Â
Elise just thought they were decent enough and figured the only reason the army protected them so much was that they happened to be space–powered.Â
To her shock, not a single soldier thought anything was off about it. They all just acted like this was totally normal.Â
Instead, William ended up warning Elise.Â
“You didn’t go out there to fight zombies either, did you? Let me warn you. Don’t try to stirÂ
upÂ
trouble, or we won’t go easyÂ

on you,” William said.Â
Elise pointed at herself, totally stunned. “Me? I’m the base chief’s daughter! And I’m space–powered! Why should I be the one risking my neck fighting zombies?” she snapped.Â
Her voice was shrill, and with James and Felix not around to keep her in check, she started causing trouble again.Â
“You might be the base chief’s daughter, but you’re not my daughter. Out here, everyone’s fighting for their lives. You really think this is your daddy’s base? Wake up,” Peyton shot back.Â
Peyton strode over, absolutely loathing Elise.Â
She’d already had a few of his men taken captive before, and even tried to drag him off, too. If he hadn’t revealed his identity in time, who knows what would’ve happened to him by now.Â
Just thinking about it made Peyton’s face darken even more.Â
With no one left to back her up, Elise stomped her foot in anger. “You’re all under that sly bitch’s spell!”Â
Back at the base, even Graham and the soldiers would always treat her with respect. But now, nobody gave her the time of day.Â
She glared daggers at Chloe’s back as she dug out zombie cores.Â
She suddenly grabbed a gun from a nearby soldier and leveled it at the back of Chloe’s head.Â
Bang!Â
Molly cried out in panic, “Chloe, watch out!”Â
Emily tried to use her spirit–powered ability to force the bullet off course, but her powers weren’t strong enough. She could only hold it back for three seconds.Â
Noah’s eyes flashed, and he darted forward to block the bullet, but with the chaos and the distance, even his speed couldn’t match a bullet’s flight.Â
For a split second, it felt like time stood still. Every terrified gaze was locked on Chloe.Â
Even William looked terrified.Â
Just when everyone thought the bullet was about to hit Chloe, her figure suddenly vanished right before their eyes.Â
The bullet whizzed through the spot where Chloe had just been and struck a zombie instead.Â
Elise clicked her tongue in frustration, clearly annoyed that her plan had failed.Â
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” William strode over and gave Elise a hard slap across the face, his expression twisted with rage.Â
For the first time in his life, he actually wanted to kill someone.Â
Elise shrugged, acting nonchalant. “I was just messing around. Why are you taking it so seriously? Uh-”Â
