Chapter 168

Through the spiritual space’s light barrier, Chloe could see the frozen wasteland outside. Jagged ice spikes kept rising. towering even above the Frost Zombie King.

Chloe stared at all that ice through the barrier, swallowing hard.

“Holy crap, look at all those ice spikes! If I hauled these back to the base, they’d fetch a ton of cores,” Chloe muttered.

The Frost Zombie King’s ice spikes weren’t just for making weapons. One could carve them into ice bricks, build ice huts, and the best part? One could even eat them.

Chloe rubbed her chin with her thumb and index finger, trying to figure out how to stash all this ice in her spiritual space.

She glanced around. “Where the hell am I supposed to put all this ice?”

She spotted a bare mountain range not far away.

She thought, ‘Got it. I’ll just dump it over there.‘

Chloe paced around her spiritual space for about ten minutes, while outside, the Frost Zombie King was about to go berserk.

All around him, a nine–story–high expanse of crystal–clear ice stretched out for 300 feet in every direction.

After the Frost Zombie King finished stacking up nine layers of ice and still couldn’t spot that annoying human, he started smashing things up again.

He swiped at the ice around him, shattering it with a single claw. Fixing his gaze on a building in the distance, he was about to stomp his way over.

But his brain just couldn’t keep up. The ice he’d just stacked up was now blocking his way forward.

That was when he realized he’d totally trapped himself; the ice all around him was nearly as tall as he was.

“Roar!” The Frost Zombie King lashed out with a furious kick, sending cracks snaking across the ice and even splitting the ground beneath.

With a thunderous crash, the whole thing exploded into shards.

It had only managed a couple of steps before it froze in its tracks, whipping its head around.

The nine–story–high ice wall behind him had just vanished.

Its dumb brain just blanked out for a second, and then Chloe’s annoying voice blasted right in its ear.

She was yelling through a megaphone, totally showing off.

“Hey, loser! That ice wall of yours is pretty lame. I didn’t even have to break a sweat,” she said.

She vanished in a flash, leaving behind a huge chunk of ice where she’d just been standing.

“Roar!” Frost Zombie King was grinding its teeth, totally losing it. ‘Kill! I have to kill that damn human!‘ it fumed.

I’m gonna rip her to shreds! It swore to itself.

I’m right here,” Chloe teased, then, with a zip, she was gone in a flash.

Chloe wasn’t about to back down. She was in this for the long haul no way the Frost Zombie King could keep burning through its powers forever.

Every time she blinked in and out, the Frost Zombie King lost it, its furious roars shaking the ice.

When she popped back into her spiritual space, she was bent over, hands on her knees, gasping for air.

“Damn, this power is just broken,” Chloe muttered, staring at a massive ice mountain not far away, left totally stunned.

She’d just snatched all that ice straight out of the Frost Zombie King’s grip and stashed it in her spiritual space, an entire mountain of ice, just like that.

‘Seriously? He’s still got juice left after all that?‘ Chloe thought, totally baffled.

I swear, this guy must be hoarding some kind of crazy power source, she grumbled to herself.

Finally, the Frost Zombie King lost it completely. Danger flashed in its icy blue eyes as it marched straight for the Medical Tower in the distance.

‘If I can’t rip that damn human to pieces, I’ll just tear her friends apart to vent my rage, it snarled to itself, murderous intent surging.

“Crap!” Chloe muttered to herself.

She teleported right in front of it. This was their first real face–off.

“What’s wrong? Can’t beat me, so now you’re trying to run? Bow down and call me Queen Chloe, maybe I’ll let you live,” Chloe sneered, full of swagger.

The Frost Zombie King let out a confused, guttural roar.

Its giant fist came crashing down like a wrecking ball. If it hit, Chloe would be nothing but roadkill in a heartbeat.

But Chloe was quick as a cat, dodging out of the way without even breaking a sweat.

Chloe realized something strange. The closer she got to the Frost Zombie King, the more her abilities quietly ramped up.

The angrier he got, the colder the atmosphere around him became. Now it was very cold. She’d started out shivering, but now she was cool as ice.

Countless streams of freezing air rushed into Chloe’s body, and her powers kept ramping up.

She cracked a grin, thinking, ‘Huh, guess this comes with some unexpected perks.

“Come on, big loser! Try and catch me if you dare!” Chloe teased, her voice dripping with mockery.

Chloe snickered to herself, ‘Keep roaring, Frost Zombie King. You’re already maxed out at late fourth–level. Come on, push harder. Let’s see if you can make it even colder!‘

But no matter how much she egged him on, no matter how wild he got, once the temperature hit 750 °F, it just wouldn’t budge anymore.

After all, the Frost Zombie King was only fifth–level. This was as far as it could go.

Chloe knew that at these temperatures, all of William’s previous efforts were for nothing.

Now it was all on her. No one else could even get close without turning into an ice statue in seconds.

Luckily, the Frost Zombie King’s attacks were slowing down, and its massive body was starting to sway, looking like it night topple over any second.

Chloe grabbed her walkie–talkie. “Major York, tell the squad to get the mortars ready, and aim straight for las neckt

A voice came through, cold and shaky from the chill. “Copy that.”

Meanwhile, holes blasted open in the ice covering the sixth–floor windows of the frozen building in the distance.

Rows of mortars were ready to go, each one manned by squads of long–range powered humans.

The walkie–talkie crackled. “It’s too far. The long–range powered humans‘ attacks can’t reach that far.”

They were separated by at least several hundred feet, and within a 300–foot radius of the Frost Zombie King, the temperature was a brutal minus 750 °F.

Anyone who tried to get close would be turned into an ice sculpture in seconds.

“No worries, just back me up,” Chloe replied.

As she spoke, the Frost Zombie King launched an ice spike her way. Chloe kicked in her speed power, dodging just in time: the razor–sharp tip whizzed past her arm, close enough to feel the chill.

Chloe stood there, stunned, and the Frost Zombie King was just as shocked.

This ice spike was supposed to be tough enough to stop bullets and blades, but all it did was graze Chloe’s arm, barely breaking the skin.

No way. That was unreal.

Even Chloe couldn’t believe it herself.

Then it hit her. She’d already absorbed a Frostbeast core, and every time she slipped into her spiritual space just now, she’d absorbed the cores from the other two Frostbeasts as well.

Those Frostbeasts were all late fourth–level, and their main strength was their mutant defense.

At their level, they were basically unbeatable and could even challenge higher–level opponents. Their top–tier defense was so strong, they could survive fights against early fifth–level powerhouses.
