Chapter 169Â
Chloe darted swiftly into the spiritual space.Â
At the same time, all the lightning converged, twisting into a thick, braided bolt that slammed down onto the Zombie KingÂ
‘Damn, seriously? Who the hell is Noah?‘ Chloe thought, her mind spinning.Â
Even though she was hiding out in the spiritual space, Chloe could still feel that crushing pressure, like the sky was about to come crashing down.Â
She couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Seriously, with that kind of strength, how was he ever in danger before? It just doesn’t add up.Â
Before she could think any further, Chloe saw through the barrier of the spiritual space. The Zombie King, after being blasted by that huge bolt of lightning, was staggering, barely staying on its feet.Â
Then, with a deafening crash, it collapsed to the ground.Â
Its whole body was wrapped in a thick web of purple lightning, and the air temperature dropped from 750 ‘F.Â
Finally, it settled at 200 °F.Â
That one strike seemed to drain every ounce of strength from Noah. He just dropped straight off the roof of the Medical Tower, totally spent.Â
Spotty suddenly ballooned up, shooting to a massive 30 feet tall. With a powerful leap off the rooftop, it cradled Noah safely in its belly.Â
For a moment, Chloe’sÂ
eyes flashed with a mix of emotions.Â
As Chloe reappeared, a massive tornado whipped up in front of her, sweeping up all the ice spikes the Zombie King had just launched and hurling them straight at its neck.Â
“Roar!” Zombie King roared.Â
After that blast of lightning, the Zombie King looked like all its strength had been sucked out of it. It kept trying to haul itself up, only to collapse again and again, slamming into the ground every time.Â
Completely ignoring the wild, slicing blades swirling around its neck, it dragged itself with every ounce of strength left, stubbornly crawling toward the hospital.Â
Chloe’s sharp gaze swept over, her eyes narrowing. ‘There’s definitely something fishy going on inside that hospital,‘ she thought.Â
12Â
‘Maybe that’s the secret to how it evolved so quickly into the Zombie King. That place must be the source of all its she mused. ‘No way am I letting it get there.Â
power,‘Â
With a swift motion, Chloe summoned another ice ball laced with dark matter. In an instant, it transformed right before herÂ
eyesÂ
into a cleaver.Â
The blade pressed against the Zombie King’s neck, cutting without a shred of mercy.Â
As the dark matter ice blade bit’in, a slow, crimson line began to form on the Zombie King’s neck.Â
The same dark matter ice ball that could instantly kill a Frostbeast now felt more like a blunt blade, grinding and squeaking as it struggled to slice through.Â
The blade just couldn’t cut fast enough to stop the Zombie King from dragging itself forward, so Chloe quickly morphedÂ

the dark matter ice blade into a long, jagged sawÂ
Sure enough, the cutting speed shot up.Â
She snatched up her walkie–talkie. “Major York, blast the area in front of the Zombie King with artillery! Don’t let it get anywhere near the hospital.”Â
“Got it,” William said.Â
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!Â
A hail of artillery fire tore up the ground in front of the Zombie King, ripping open trenches everywhere, but it only managed to stall the monster for a few seconds.Â
The temperature around them cased back down, settling into the usual freezing minus 140 F.Â
At that moment, all the powered humans closed in, their powers lighting up the sky as they hammered the Zombie King’s neck.Â
Just as it was about to reach the building, its head was finally severed from its body, and the huge body just stopped moving.Â
Dark red blood gushed out from the broken neck.Â
Mutant zombies and mutant creatures were worlds apart. Mutant creatures were just physically mutated. One could actually eat their meat.Â
But zombies were nothing but virus–infested, rotting flesh; not even wild animals would go near it.Â
So the only thing worth anything on the Zombie King was its core, and those eyes, deep blue like the ocean.Â
Chloe dug out everything valuable and stashed it in her spiritual space.Â
William wasted no time, leading his men straight into the Medical Tower.Â
After catching her breath, Chloe joined up with the Blaze Squad and made her way to the hospital, the very place the Zombie King had been so desperate to crawl back to.Â
As soon as they got there, Chloe felt something wasn’t right.Â
Molly’s eyes lit up. “Hey Chloe, I think there’s some loot here!”Â
But she couldn’t quite tell what it was exactly.Â
As soon as Chloe walked in, she could feel the powerful energy pulsing through the place.Â
It was so familiar.Â
Especially the Phantom Zombie and the whip Mindy was holding, they were acting up even more, as they could barelyÂ
contain themselves.Â
They exchanged glances, and the same idea hit them all at once. “Cosmic Meteorite.”Â
That thing was an insanely powered stone. Even just a tiny shard of it had once turned the whole spiritual space upside down.Â
“Emily, Phantom Zombie, extend your spirit–powered senses and see if you can detect any sign of the cosmic meteorite,”Â
Chloe ordered.Â
Emily quickly spread out her spirit–powered senses, but came up empty–handed.Â

“I checked every room and every corner. There’s nothing like the stone we found last time.‘ Emily reported.Â
The Phantom Zombie didn’t pick up anything either.Â
Chloe walked around, looking everywhere. “No, there’s definitely something here. But where is it?”Â
She kept feeling like she was forgetting something. ‘What am I missing? Chloe thought, the question nagging at her.Â
Suddenly, Chloe stiffened, then yelled out to all the Blaze Squad members. “Fall back! Move it, now!”Â
Everyone was baffled, but out of trust for their captain, they didn’t hesitate and dashed out of the hospital in a flash.Â
One of the Blaze Squad meÂ
shouted, “Chloe, what happened? Why are we pulling out?”Â
Chloe stared intently at the building, her gaze sharp and unblinking, catching even the slightest movement.Â
She narrowed her eyes, pointing at the hospital as she spoke softly to the Blaze Squad, her voice barely audible. “Guys, look. The hospital building is actually shaking.”Â
Emily was the first to notice something strange.Â
“Chloe’s right. It really seems to be moving,” Emily said, sounding uncertain.Â
“It’s like, like this hospital is built on the back of some colossal creature,” Emily murmured.Â
It was like a bomb had just gone off. Suddenly, they all realized they’d uncovered something huge.Â
Just then, the soldiers came rushing out of the Medical Tower, a bunch of them had people slung over their shoulders, and it wasn’t just a few.Â
William hurried over and bowed deeply to Chloe.Â
“Our comrades have been rescued, and we couldn’t have done it without you, Captain Yates,” he said gratefully.Â
“But their lives are still on the line. We’ve got to get them back to the base, fast,” he added.Â
Chloe glanced at the hospital ahead, then turned to Renee. “Renee, collect all the medicine from the Medical Tower and stash it in your spiritual space. Then head back to the base with Evan and the soldiers.”Â
Renee glanced at Chloe, worry in her eyes. “But what about you?”Â
Chloe didn’t answer. She turned to Major York. “The Awakened Group under the base chief has taken a beating; most of their power’s gone. If I send the Blaze Squad to back you up, how confident are you we’ll pull this off?”Â
William puffed up with excitement. “At least ninety percent!”Â
Chloe glanced at the Blaze Squad members.Â
“Noah and Spotty, you two stay here. The rest of you, head back and help Major York. Remember, staying alive comes first, mission second,” Chloe ordered.Â
“When we get back, I’ll make sure you all get the credit youÂ
Emily looked a little uneasy. “Chloe, are you-”Â
deserve,” she promised.Â
Chloe nodded hard. “There’s something big in this hospital. If we can snag it, our team’s gonna hit the jackpot.”Â
Whenever the team heard those words, their hearts would sink; it always meant trouble totally out of their league.Â

Chloe sending them back was basically saying they’d just get in the way, maybe even drag her down.Â
