“Meow, meow.” The mutant cheetah mewled pitifully, begging for mercy.
Chloe thought for a moment. “Did he have that poison even before the apocalypse?”

Chloe’s frown deepened. “That kind of weird, unpredictable poison was around before the apocalypse?‘ she wondered. “Turns out Noah’s identity is even more complicated than I thought.
‘Someone wanted him dead, and I went and saved him. Why does it feel like I just brought trouble home? What if I just want to toss him out?‘
The mutant cheetah instantly caught the look in Chloe’s eyes. One moment it was baring its fangs and swiping its claws at her, the next it was lowering its head, pleading with teary eyes.
She could see it. This little punk was trying to threaten her.
“Here’s the deal.” Chloe said.
The mutant cheetah’s eyes sparkled. This wicked woman is laying down terms. Guess that means she’s not kicking my master out just yet!
No denying it, this damn human was a pain, but her healing power is off the charts.
Chloe did her best to ignore the burning stare beside her. The look on his face was pure puppy–dog misery, as he’d just been left out in the cold.
“I’ll let you two join the Blaze Squad, and I’ll do my best to find a way to cure Noah. But when we’re out on missions or fighting, you follow my orders.
“When I say go, you go. No questions, no backtalk. If I tell you to charge, you don’t even think about retreating,” she said.
The mutant cheetah let out a huge sigh of relief and nodded vigorously.
‘Looks like this damn human isn’t totally heartless after all, the cheetah thought.
For a second there, it thought she was gonna make it her personal pack mule, or maybe even leopard stew.
But honestly, the mutant cheetah was celebrating way too soon.
She wasn’t going to make leopard stew out of it, but as for being her pack mule? That was definitely happening.
Chloe clapped her hands, a bright smile lighting up her face. “Perfect. Now, stand guard for me. I’m going to
treat Noah.”
She couldn’t promise to completely get rid of that strange poison, but at least she could keep it from

Late at night, the System’s robotic voice rang out in the spiritual space. “Congrats, Host! Your spiritual space just leveled up to the second.
“You’ve earned a flag, and you can now stay in the spiritual space for two hours each day.”
Chloe had just used a core to restore her spent powers when that annoying voice chimed in.
Her eyes flew open, still a bit out of it.
The mechanical voice repeated, “Congrats, Host! Your spiritual space just leveled up to two. You’ve earned a flag, and you can now stay in the spiritual space for two hours each day.”
Chloe’s eyes went wide, and she nearly choked on her own spit.
“System, you damn scammer! When the spiritual space leveled up to one, you gave me all that land, and now you just hand me a lousy flag?” she snapped.
‘What the hell is this?‘ Chloe thought.
Just remembering how she tossed that Zombie King core into the spiritual space and it got swallowed up made her heart ache.
‘I totally got played, she thought.
Before Chloe could start cursing again, the System chimed in, “This flag marks a safe haven. Host, you have six months to find a spot and plant it. Once you do, a fortress will appear, a real bunker, your own apocalypse shelter.”
‘Wait, what?‘ Chloe blinked in disbelief, suddenly excited.
“Are you for real?” Chloe asked, incredulous.
“Affirmative, Host. Wherever you plant the flag, a fortress will rise up, bomb–proof, quake–proof, totally indestructible,” the System replied.
Her face lit up with pure delight.
“Now, Host, picture the flag in your mind,” the System instructed.
She quickly closed her eyes and focused.
She imagined a rectangular black flag with a pattern of red flames on it.
She couldn’t be bothered to come up with a new name, so she just went with Blaze Haven.
In an instant, a flag the same size as the red one appeared in her hand. It was as black as the night, radiating
an eerie, intimidating aura, especially with the vivid red flames dancing across it.
It looked like those flames were about to leap right off the flag and burn the whole world to ashes.

She carefully folded the flag and stashed it in her spiritual space, planning to set out and find the perfect spot for her base soon.
Early the next morning, the trio, Chloe, Noah, and the mutant cheetah, headed toward the hospital building.
A confident smile spread across Chloe’s face.
The mutant serpent, the towering monster that once rocked the world in my previous life! Chloe thought. ‘Who would’ve thought its origin was right here?”
Judging by all the ruckus, this thing was probably a fifth–level beast. Snakes were always afraid of the cold, and no matter how strong they were, they could only handle regular chilly weather.
But it just so happened to run into the Frost Zombie King.
With the temperature dropping to minus 900 °F, that was exactly what could keep it in check, forcing it into hibernation under such extreme cold.
But that just made things easier for her.
“Let’s make this quick. Without the Frost Zombie King’s freezing suppression, this mutant serpent is about to wake up, Chloe said.
“Its weak spot is the seventh section down its belly. Spotty, you grab its attention. Noah, hit it with lightning from the back. I’ll go in for the strike,” she commanded.
Chloe had speed power, and could slip into her spiritual space anytime, so she was the best choice to take it
out.
Then she released the Phantom Zombie from her spiritual space. “Phantom, use your spirit–powered abilities to mess with its mind, and attack from another direction,” she instructed.
“Everyone, just do your part. No need to risk your lives, just keep it distracted,” Chloe added.
“And Spotty, your claws are poisonous, so don’t scratch it. That mutant serpent is loaded with treasures, don’t mess it up,” she warned.
The mutant cheetah nodded.
Just then, the whole hospital started to rumble and lift off the ground, shaking violently.
The green mutant serpent slowly slithered into view, letting out a chilling hiss that made everyone’s skin crawl.
“Everyone, get ready,” Chloe called out.
The mutant serpent had just woken up, still dazed, when a bolt of lightning zapped it senseless.
Its car–sized red eyes snapped open, pupils turning into vertical slits as it locked onto Noah with a deadly glare, instantly recognizing the source of the attack.

“Hiss.” Its long, forked tongue flicked in and out, the eerie sound making everyone’s skin crawl.

In a split second, the mutant serpent appeared out of nowhere right next to Noah, jaws gaping wide, ready to swallow that pesky ant whole.
But just then, Spotty lunged forward, its body bristling like steel needles as it slammed the serpent’s massive head aside, then darted away in a flash.
Chloe was taken aback. Even without speed power, this colossal serpent could almost keep up with her.
‘This really is a once–in–a–lifetime find,‘ she thought.
While the Phantom Zombie was scrambling the serpent’s mind, Chloe used her spiritual space ability to stealthily close in, moving so quietly that no one even noticed her approach.
When she got to the seventh section down its belly, everyone held their ground, keeping the serpent distracted and refusing to budge, worried she might not hit the exact spot.
“Hiss.” The mutant serpent instantly sensed something was off. Its slit–like eyes narrowed in suspicion, and it swung its huge head back and forth, searching for any sign of danger, but all it saw was empty air.
