Chapter 179 

Chloe suddenly caught a faint whiff of gunpowder, her eyes instantly sharpening with alertness. 

“Shit,” Chloe murmured, her heart skipping a beat. 

There had to be timed bombs buried beneath them. Her base vehicle was only a second–level model, which wouldn’t stand a chance against a blast like that. 

Those powered humans were planning to rain explosives and artillery down on her. Even if the blasts didn’t kill her, she’d have to use all her powers just to survive, leaving her completely drained. 

And then, she and her team would be sitting ducks for those powered humans to finish them off. 

In an instant, Chloe’s mind flashed through all the possibilities. She immediately ordered the Phantom Zombie. 

“Phantom Zombie, take over the man in black with the remote and grab it,” Chloe said. 

The Phantom Zombie wasn’t all that powerful overall, but when it came to speed and psychic attacks, if she called herself second, nobody would dare claim first. 

Up on the tower, Leon flashed a triumphant grin and made a throat–slitting gesture toward Chloe. 

Then he pressed his thumb down on the remote. 

But suddenly, he froze, his eyes went vacant, then twisted with a savage look. 

“Ah, it hurts!” he screamed. 

He clutched his head, wailing in agony. 

‘What the hell? Wasn’t she supposed to have just one psychic–powered human? And wasn’t she already taken care of?‘ Leon thought. 

He howled in pain, clutching his head as his screams echoed across the tower. 

‘Damn that base chief for feeding me crap intel,‘ he cursed inwardly, ‘When I get back, he’s gonna pay for this screw–up.‘ 

Gritting his teeth through the blinding pain, Leon shakily stretched out his thumb, still trying to press the 

remote. 

But before he could react, something flashed past him, a blur of movement, and the remote was just gone from his hand. 

‘Gone? Where the hell did it go?‘ he thought, stunned. 

At the same time, the splitting pain in his head faded away, and his eyes regained their usual clarity.

He was a fourth–level powered human, after all. Even with the Phantom Zombie’s psychic attack, it didn’t take long for him to recover. 

He gawked at the Phantom Zombie nearby, as he’d just seen the devil himself. 

“W–who the hell are you?” he blurted out, his voice cracking with fear. He was on the verge of a breakdown. 

‘Weren’t they supposed to have just one fourth–level powered human? Where did this girl pop out from? he thought, his mind spinning in panic. 

Felix was just as shocked, a chill running down his spine. 

“This girl never really says anything, barely has any presence, but turns out she’s insanely strong, Felix thought, eyes wide in disbelief. 

When Leon shot him a death glare, Felix instinctively shrank back, his neck tucking in like a turtle. 

Leon had always been the base’s trump card, its strongest asset. 

He could crush Felix like an ant with just a flick of his finger. 

Felix wouldn’t dare cross him. 

But the next second, Felix’s eyes went wide, his face twisted in pure terror. 

Leon, who’d been standing tall on the tower, commanding an entire army, didn’t even get to finish his sentence before his head just rolled off his shoulders. 

There was still a mocking smirk on his lips, like he thought he was the chosen one sent to save the world. 

But his swagger lasted less than three seconds; his show was over before it even started. 

The man’s head rolled right up to Felix’s feet. He locked eyes with those empty, lifeless eyes for a split second, then took off like a bat out of hell, running for his life. 

‘Leon is dead. It’s all over for us,‘ Felix thought, panic flooding his mind. ‘How is this even possible? How the hell did this happen? 

‘They’re both fourth–level powered humans, so how on earth could that insane Chloe just one–shot Leon?‘ 

‘This just doesn’t make any sense,’ he thought, his mind reeling. 

But Felix didn’t have time to figure it out. 

Because right in front of him, a whirlwind suddenly kicked up. The wind spun so fiercely it turned into slicing blades, and before Felix could even react, he was torn to bloody shreds. 

The Phantom Zombie’s eyes lit up as it stared at Felix’s shredded remains, mouth hanging open, drooling uncontrollably. 

‘Smells so good. I wanna eat it!‘ the Phantom Zombie thought, practically salivating with hunger.

Zombies had their cores stashed in their heads, while the powered humans had theirs too, just not in the same place. For humans, the core sits right at the edge of the heart. 

“What?” All the powered humans were totally stunned. Their ace in the hole, Leon, whom they’d always relied on, just got one–shotted right in front of them. 

‘Are you freaking kidding me?‘ they all thought, minds blown. 

For a moment, the whole place fell into stunned silence. Every powered human just stared in disbelief at the carnage unfolding on the wall. 

Then, someone let out a scream, and in an instant, the powered humans bolted in all directions, ditching their sniper rifles as they scrambled to get away. 

“She’s the devil! An absolute devil!” someone screamed in terror. 

Chloe curled her lips into a faint smile with a hint of mockery, standing tall atop the wall and gazing down at the terrified crowd below. 

Her bold red dress billowed in the icy wind, the fabric snapping sharply in the air. 

She was drop–dead gorgeous, like a poppy blooming in hell; her beauty was wild, intoxicating, and laced with deadly danger. 

Her red lips parted as she commanded, “Kill!” 

In an instant, countless deadly whirlwinds erupted from the ground, slicing toward the powered humans who were howling in terror. 

Some were bolting for their lives, some dropped to their knees begging for mercy, and others were shouting curses, putting up a desperate fight. 

But Chloe didn’t spare a single soul; none of them made it out alive. 

Watching Chloe mow down everyone in her way, the Phantom Zombie, never the brightest, actually felt something like awe bubbling up in her simple mind. 

It blinked, a rare flicker of human emotion crossing its face, and scuttled over to Leon’s corpse, taking tiny, eager steps. 

Chloe kept the whirlwinds raging, mercilessly harvesting lives below. The Phantom Zombie blinked again, then tore off Leon’s arm and started devouring it hungrily, taking huge, greedy bites. 

‘Finally, that really hit the spot,‘ the Phantom Zombie thought, savoring every mouthful. 

It ate so fast, like a wolf starved for three days and nights, afraid someone might steal its food. 

It practically unhinged its jaw, and in just thirty seconds flat, all that was left of Leon was a pile of bones. Phantom Zombie clutched a sparkling green core in her hand. 

Leon didn’t even get to flex his powers before he got insta–killed.

The Phantom Zombie stared at the green core in her hand, licked her lips, then shook her dull head vigorously, looking almost comically serious. 

‘Nope, can’t eat it. If I do, the boss will beat me up for sure, it thought, a shiver of fear running through it. 

It glanced down at the corpses below, just about to make a move, when suddenly it was yanked up by the collar, feet dangling in the air. 

“Where do you think you’re going?” Chloe asked, her voice playful but with a sharp edge. 

Chloe gave the Phantom Zombie a half–smile, amusement and warning flickering in her eyes as she noticed Leon’s blood smeared across its face. 

“Didn’t I tell you, no eating people?” Chloe said. 

The Phantom Zombie’s face turned beet red, and after struggling for a moment, it finally blurted out, “D- dead, just dead,” 

The Phantom Zombie looked so pitiful, practically pleading, ‘Seriously, I didn’t just eat random people!‘ 

Chloe was floored. ‘Holy crap, the Phantom Zombie can actually talk now?‘ she thought, eyes wide in shock. 

‘Wait, so it’s not just mutant creatures. Does eating powdered humans work for it, too?‘ Chloe wondered, her mind spinning. 

Since the bodies were already dead, Chloe just let the Phantom Zombie roam free, letting it have its way. 

Watching the Phantom Zombie dash off, all excited, Chloe found herself wondering, ‘When will it actually start understanding human speech? Maybe even start talking?‘ 

Right now, the Phantom Zombie couldn’t understand anyone else; it could only follow Chloe’s simple orders. 

That was because Chloe was the master of the spiritual space, and the Phantom Zombie was a product of it. 

An assassination plot that had been brewing for ages ended up as a total slaughter–fest. 

Chloe did all the killing herself, while Noah and the mutant cheetah were sleeping like logs in the RV, completely unaware of the carnage outside. 

Chloe single–handedly wiped out every last powered human! 

The Phantom Zombie, stuffed and satisfied after her feast, hugged a stash of over thirty human cores to her chest. Standing beside Chloe, she flashed her a big, toothy grin.
