Blood was smeared all over Phantom Zombie’s face, making its pretty features look even creepier.
Anyone timid would probably freak out or even pass out at the sight.
Chloe noticed that Phantom Zombie’s aura was even more bizarre and contained now, like it was about to evolve.
‘Oh my god, zombies really do power up after eating human flesh, Chloe thought.
Still, the thought of zombies eating people really grossed Chloe out.
“From now on, no snacking on humans unless I say so,” Chloe said.
After a pause, she added, “If they’re enemies, go ahead.”
Phantom Zombie was thrilled. Her powers surged uncontrollably, and the burst of spirit–powered energy made Chloe’s mind waver for a second.
“Alright, your mission is to bring the base chief in alive,” Chloe said.
Chloe called out to the refugees, who were still frozen in shock below, “What are you all standing around for? Get down here and collect the loot!”
The side doors of a dozen vehicles popped open, and the refugees started grabbing up all the stuff the powered humans had dropped.
Everything was handed over to Chloe in the end.
She nodded in satisfaction. “I’ve brought you to Bluehaven Base. If you want to stick with me, stay. If not, you’re free to go.”
Everyone exchanged glances, unsure what to do.
The woman with the high cheekbones was the first to leave, her whole body trembling.
Bluehaven Base was huge. She figured staying here was way better than sticking around that she–devil,
Once one person left, others followed. Soon, there were fewer than ten people left.
Among them were Clayton and a few of his men who’d gone out for supplies that day.
“Why didn’t you leave?” Chloe asked.
Clayton’s eyes sparkled with admiration as he stepped forward, rubbing his hands nervously.
“Madam, I want to stick with you,” he said.
Chloe was seriously badass. The way she handled things just now almost blinded him.

He had a gut feeling.
Rolling with Madam was definitely better than going solo at Bluehaven Base.
Chloe nodded. “Alright, you guys can come with me.”

Then, right in front of everyone, Chloe popped the RV into her spiritual space. Noah, the mutant cheetah, and Filip were left standing there, looking lost and bewildered.
‘Wait, when did we end up outside?‘ Noah, the cheetah, and Filip all thought, still dazed.
Chloe grabbed Filip’s hand. “Quit spacing out. Let’s go save your mom.”
Inside a dim cell, the base chief eyed Graham and his family, a sneer curling at his lips.
“Graham, never thought you’d see the day, huh? Bet you didn’t expect I’d have a fourth–level spirit–powered backing me up!” he taunted.
A fourth–level spirit–powered was the absolute top dog in their world. As long as he kept Leon in his grip, he’d be untouchable.
Peyton was tied to a pillar, his whole body crisscrossed with lash marks. He strained against the ropes, but they didn’t budge an inch.
“Don’t be so smug. Captain Yates-” Peyton muttered.
“Peyton, enough,” Emery called out and cut Peyton off with a sharp glare.
At a moment like this, even one careless word could give the enemy something to use against them.
If they figured out how strong Chloe’s crew really was, they’d start scheming, and that’d just put her in danger.
Peyton caught on and clamped his mouth shut.
The base chief burst out laughing, dunked his whip in chili water, and cracked it hard across Peyton’s back.
“Big deal, Captain Yates is fourth level, too, right?” the base chief scoffed.
He suddenly burst out laughing, but stopped abruptly in the middle of his laugh.
“So what? I’ve already set up a web of traps outside the walls. Honestly, I hope they show up,” he said.
Just then, a panicked voice shouted from outside, and one of the powered humans came sprinting in.
He tripped over the threshold and went sprawling face–first onto the floor.
The base chief cracked the chili–soaked whip across his back.
“You idiot! What’s with all the panic? Can’t you see I’m busy grilling these prisoners?” the base chief snapped.
The guy on the ground took the lash straight to his back, his skin split open, blood pouring out.

He looked up, trembling. “Sir, bad news. Blaze Squad is back.”
The base chief’s face split into a triumphant grin as he turned to the people chained up.
“Today, you’ll get to watch as your last trump card gets wiped out,” he sneered.

“Oh, really? I’m dying to know how you’re gonna kill me,” Chloe’s clear, melodious voice rang out from afar.
Chloe stepped into view, looking as cool and untouchable as ever.
The base chief was totally frozen, eyes bulging, lips quivering as he stared at her.
“H–How did you get in here?” he stammered.
Chloe just shrugged. “We just walked in, simple as that.”
The base chief’s eyes flashed with fury. “Damn jerk! He betrayed me! He actually betrayed me!!”
His hysterical roar was so loud that it felt like he might blow the whole roof off.
The powered human on the ground, still stinging from the whip, couldn’t hold back anymore. He looked up, a smug grin flickering in his eyes.
“Leon didn’t betray you. Captain Yates just one–shotted him,” he said.
“What?” The base chief’s eyes went wide, shock written all over his face. He just couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“O–One–shotted?” he stammered, still in disbelief.
“Are you out of your mind? He’s a fourth–level spirit–powered!” the base chief yelled.
Chloe wasn’t in the mood for his crap. She whipped out an ice sword and pressed it right against his throat.
“Talk. Where are my people? Make it easy for yourself,” Chloe said coldly, her ice sword pressed to his throat.
“They’re already in hell! Why don’t you go join them?” the base chief spat, grinning like a madman.
Chloe didn’t waste another second; her ice sword flashed, and the base chief was dead before he even hit the ground.
“Phantom Zombie, use your spirit power to check the area. See if you can find any underground tunnels or hidden passages,” Chloe said.
Emery hurriedly blurted out, “I know where they’re being held!”
They headed straight for an underground warehouse, where a whole group of powered humans were locked up, including William, James, Dallas, and several others.
“Dallas, do you think Chloe’s really just gonna leave us behind?” Charles asked, a hint of sadness flickering across his face.

Dallas let out a sigh. “Let’s just take it one step at a time.”

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out from outside. Charles yelped and dove straight into Dallas’s arms, trembling.
“Is it the powered humans coming to kill us? Wah, I don’t wanna die! I still have so many girls I haven’t even gotten to sleep with yet!” he wailed.
“Shut up,” Dallas said, rolling her eyes hard.
Suddenly, a crisp voice echoed through the room, making everyone whip around.
“Chloe?” someone gasped, eyes wide in surprise.
“Chloe!” Filip shouted, sounding super relieved.
“Chloe!” the rest of Blaze Squad called out, relief flooding their voices.
Everyone from Blaze Squad was present; no one was missing.
The base chief must’ve been worried his people couldn’t take Chloe down, so he kept them as hostages, hoping to use them as leverage if things went south.
But he never imagined his so–called unbreakable trap would be shattered so easily, and he’d end up dying like he was nothing but a feather in the wind.
The members of Blaze Squad were so emotional that they nearly burst into tears. They let out a huge sigh of relief, but there was also a hint of shame in their eyes.
Frank, in particular, looked especially guilty. “I’m sorry, Chloe. I didn’t look after the team like I should have.”
“It’s not on you. The base chief still had a fourth–level spirit–powered under his control,” Chloe said, her voice steady and reassuring.
Chloe led Blaze Squad back to their old villa, leaving the rest of the mess for William and his crew to handle.
The villa was back to its usual lively self again.
