She was horrified for Glenn. “Holy shit, Gulliver. That’s awful.”
“I wanted to get rid of her.”
The confession from Gulliver made her eyes widen in surprise.
“She was hurting my nephew with her foolishness. Then she showed up one day demanding money. Glenn cut her a cheque for fifty thousand and she didn’t even look at Mitsos as she danced out the door with the money. Mitsos broke down. Glenn then packed them up and relocated completely to America. At first they’d been splitting time between here and Europe but if she were there and we were here but with that last bout of fuckery, Glenn decided to make it far more difficult for her to get access to Mitsos and relocated completely. He lives in the house with me and Thisbe back in New York.”
“Does Mitsos see her at all?”
“When he goes to visit my parents, he makes the offer to her to let her know he’s in town with Mitsos. She’s a fifty–fifty on whether she shows up and she always just asks for money. Killing her would make her a martyr to Mitsos, or at least according to Glenn. I think kids are resilient and he’d get over it.”

“And we will. He fell in love with you at first sight. He immediately felt safe in your presence. Glenn was impressed.”
“He’s a wonderful little boy.” She was smiling at Mitsos who was being swung up in the air between Glenn and Ford on one side while Glenn and Ernst were swinging Darwin on the other side. Kaylee was riding Thisbe’s back in a piggyback as they moved to the next animal enclosure.
“He is.” Gulliver removed his fingers from hers and draped his arm over her shoulder, so they were walking hip to hip. “Have you ever thought of giving Kaylee siblings?”
“No.” She answered seriously. “I never thought I’d be able to. Hiding with one kid was hard enough. I’d burdened my family enough with having her without a husband around.”
“Would you like to?”
“Gulliver, we just started rekindling things.”
“I know but she’s already seven. If you were trusting of me right now, if things were good and you were happy with how things were going, would you want more babies?”

She twisted her lips and exhaled, “you already know the answer to that Gulliver. How many nights did we lay awake discussing how many kids we would have?”
“Not nearly enough,” he answered truthfully. “I’ve replayed those conversations so many times wondering what went wrong. I mean I know now what happened, but I couldn’t get over the fact the woman who wanted a bunch of my babies suddenly disappeared without a trace.” He squeezed her to his side, “you wanted four. Two girls, two boys and you wanted to name at least one after your father because he’s your hero.”
“He still is.”
“He loves you very much.”
“My mother does too but she had her life mapped out and I caused it to disrupt.”
“She’ll come around. Especially when you’re not underfoot all the time.”
“I hope so. I love her very much and this fighting and bickering with her is hurting me.”
“I know.”
“Dad!” Kaylee yelled from Thisbe’s back, “the lions are coming up! I’m really excited.”

“Me too, Kaylee.” He called back. “She’s going to be a great big sister.” He watched with a smile as she encouraged the boys to hurry and get closer to the barrier.
“Gulliver.”
“I want to make every dream you ever had come true. I want to give you a houseful of kids. I want you to wake up every morning to the sound of laughter. I want to be the support you deserve and need. I want you to raise our children without feeling like you and them are burdens on the family surrounding you. Kaylee is wonderful and please don’t think I’m judging because she is exceptional and that is all you, I want you to have the experience that Glenn had. I don’t want you to hear muttered things about how your mother already raised one kid. It takes a village, January. I want to give you the experience you should have had first time around. With a husband who is loving and supportive and will change as many if not more diapers than you.”
“You are making it very hard, Gulliver.”
“For what, my love.”
“For keeping my knees shut,” she gave a laugh as he threw his head back and laughed loudly at her comment.
He kissed the top of her head, “I am glad to hear that.” They

approached the group and just as they arrived Kaylee was running to slip her hand into Gulliver’s with a very worried expression on her face. “What’s wrong, Kaylee?”
“Remember the police officer we saw at the restaurant?”
Instantly Gulliver and January were looking around and sure enough, at a bench not far from where they were sitting, the agent was there with another man, and they were deep in conversation.
Gulliver pulled his phone from inside his pocket, and he gave an easy–going smile at Kaylee as he read a text, “you have no need to worry about him. We have a team of roughly thirty men here today to keep us safe. My head of security already sent me a text to let me know he’s here with some of his friends. They are already way ahead of it.”
“Are you sure, Daddy?” she swallowed nervously, her big blue eyes searching his for assurances.
He cupped her cheek, “my little love, you are safe with us. Go look at the lions with the boys.” When she skipped away, he looked to January. “The team did send me a notification. There is a full FBI team here in the zoo. They’ve already called into legal. Do not panic, January. There is nothing for us to fear.”
January wondered why it was he was so confident but as she slid back under his open arm, she knew she trusted him to keep 5/6
