“Davis used to be known as Darius, as I said and his family were at one time connected with Ziogas’s family. Darius‘ brother dated a cousin in the family. I think Davis as we know him now, is going to try to get him to give him intel on our family.”

“I’d be lying if I said no but Ziogas needs to be smart because as much information as he has on our joint operations, we were in the middle of all of theirs for years. “But one murder charge or racketeering charge is enough to put you away for twenty years.”
He nodded at her comment, “yes, but they’d have to prove it and they can’t. They can offer verbal suggestions and maybe locations and dates but it’s circumstantial and for everything they have, I have tenfold against them. If Ziogas doesn’t play carefully, he’s going to find himself facing far more than the American government. I have information on three specific deals where he fucked over three different powerful families. I didn’t kill him, but it doesn’t mean they won’t. All I would need to do is release some information to the Russians, Italians or Somalians and he’s not just dead, but they’ll wipe out everyone from his granny to infant grand nephews. I have kept my mouth shut to protect the innocents but if they put my family at risk, I will release details without a second thought.”
“Does he know?”
“Yes. We also have guards on our payroll, and they’ll get me a full transcript of the conversation which happens today. Ziogas will be given a warning to keep his mouth shut lest he wants his own secrets revealed. We’ll do the same with Duchess.”
The way he said her name made her stare at him, “you’re not as confident she’ll keep her mouth shut.”

“She’s a wild card. She might think revenge is worth burning her family to the ground, all in the name of honor. She is not someone you can think you know how she will operate because if you think she’s going left, she’ll go right. She’s a loose cannon.”
“Why did your grandfather want you to marry her?”
“Because she is an incredible actress. She’s smart, beautiful and she can lie through her teeth without batting a lash. She played the perfect daughter and granddaughter flawlessly, but I saw her once, when we were teenagers and it dawned on me, the way they raised her, they raised her to be a homicidal maniac.”
“What had she done?”
He looked away for a moment and then shrugged, “killed a dog. She killed a puppy that belonged to a romantic rival at the time. There was a guy she was interested in, but he was dating someone else. She warned the other girl to shut him down because Duchess wanted him. When she went on a date with him and Duchess found out, she took her little lapdog and killed it with her bare hands and left it on the girl’s bed. Nobody could prove it was her, but I knew it was.
I saw her near the house. I saw the smirk on her face when the girl shattered. She did it.”

January was quiet for a moment and then looked at him nervously, “are we in danger when she gets out of prison?”
“No.” He shook his head, “because we have a plan in place. We may need to tweak it if Davis gets involved but there is no intention of her being permitted to remain in America. We have a plan for her to be put on a plane back to Greece and when she gets there, she will be dealt with the family way.”
“The family way?”
“Yes. We dealt with her the business way, corporation to corporation. When she is released from prison, she, and her father, will both face the consequences of betraying our family.”
“What if Davis gets involved? What if he suddenly backs her and she’s roaming free through America?”
“Then we tweak the plan. I’ll call in favors. I’ll do a full sweep and deal with her, her father, Davis, and the rest. It’ll put some heat on us, but it would also mean you and Kaylee would need to be hidden away for a bit. We’d need to put you on lockdown. However,” he saw the way her jaw tightened, “if we can get the town on board to keep you safe, then that might be an option.”
She took a breath, “I’m not running anymore Gulliver. I’m done with it. I want you to do for me what you intend to do for Kaylee someday. Teach me to protect her better than I already 4/5
