Chapter 120 Returning the GiftsÂ
Emily cut Ryan off, her eyes red as she said, “I understand.”Â
She gave him a small smile, her gaze filled with gratitude.Â
She knew what he was trying to say.Â
The truth was that Emily understood all of it.Â
After thinking it over, she didn’t go to see Alexander. Instead, she packed up everything he had sent and drove it to his residence.Â
The person who came to the door was a housekeeper. When she saw that it was a young, attractive woman, she more or less guessed what was going on.Â
Alexander was notorious for his flirtations, and plenty of women had come looking for him here before.Â
The housekeeper assumed Emily was no different and turned to go back inside without much interest.Â
“Please give these to Alexander,” Emily said quickly, noticing the housekeeper’s reaction and guessing what she was thinking.Â
The housekeeper paused, surprised. Women who can here:33Â

usually cried, made a scene, or begged her for help. Someone as calm as Emily, who had come to return gifts, was a first.Â
She turned back and said, “Mr. Lessing doesn’t take back things he’s given. If you want to return them—”Â
་་Â
Before she could finish, Emily raised her phone and started recording a video as she spoke. “I’ve returned everything that should be returned and informed the housekeeper to receive it. If anything goes missing later, I won’t be responsible.”Â
She took out each bracelet and passed it in front of the camera one by one.Â
Only after finishing did Emily turn and leave.Â
The housekeeper stared at the gift boxes on the ground in a daze. When she looked up and tried to call after Emily, she was already gone.Â
Left with no choice, the housekeeper picked up the boxes and carried them back into the villa.Â
These items were worth millions, even tens of millions. She didn’t dare treat them carelessly.Â
If anything went missing, the consequences would be unthinkable.Â

Watching from around the corner as the housekeeper brought everything back inside, Emily finally felt at ease.Â
Another week passed. One evening, Emily received a call from Matthew.Â
“Emily, come to Wilson Manor. I have something I want you to take care of.”Â
Emily agreed. After work, she drove to Wilson Manor.Â
When she arrived, Matthew was the only one home.Â
He first had dinner arranged for her and then got straight to the point. “I’ve prepared some gifts. Go to Robinson Manor and pay Ruth a visit.”Â
Fearing that Emily might refuse, Matthew added, “Just consider it doing this on my behalf.”Â
Emily could more or less guess what Matthew was thinking.Â
He had always known that her relationship with Ethan was strained and had long wanted to smooth things over between them.Â
This time, because of Ruth’s situation, Ethan had grown displeased with Emily.Â

By arranging for Emily to visit Ruth, Matthew was hoping to ease the tension between them.Â
Although the visit was Matthew’s idea, in front of Ethan, it could easily be framed as Emily being thoughtful and tactful.Â
Matthew’s intentions were completely transparent to Emily.Â
But there was no real need to mend things between her and Ethan anymore.Â
Sooner or later, she would step aside for Nancy anyway.Â
As for why Ethan still had not signed the divorce papers, perhaps he simply felt the time was not right yet.Â
After thinking it through, Emily refused Matthew’s proposal. “Let Ethan go instead. If I go to Robinson Manor, they won’t welcome me. If I upset Mrs. Ruth Robinson, and something happens to her, I couldn’t bear that responsibility.”Â
Matthew ignored what she said and insisted stubbornly, “You’re the one going.”Â
Emily knew she couldn’t argue her way out of it. Reluctantly, she agreed.Â
Matthew instructed the house staff to load the prepared gifts into Emily’s car.Â

Once everything was packed, he repeatedly reminded her to drive carefully.Â
Emily fastened her seat belt, nodded, and drove off.Â
When she reached the entrance of Robinson Manor, she was surprised to see Ethan’s car.Â
Still, since Ethan and Andrew were friends, his presence there was not unexpected.Â
Carrying the gifts inside, Emily saw Ruth sitting in a cushioned chair. She wore a hat, with a blanket draped over her legs. Sitting on either side of her were Ethan and Nancy.Â
They were in the middle of a conversation and had not noticed Emily enter.Â
Ruth held Nancy’s hand, her eyes curved into crescents as she smiled warmly. “Andrew told me everything. You really went to great lengths for my surgery. You even humbled yourself to speak up for others. I’m so touched. No matter what happens from now on, I’ll always be on your side. I won’t allow it if Ethan tries to hurt you. If you ever feel wronged by him, just tell me. I’ll deal with him for you. Andrew and I will both be your family.”Â
