Chapter 123 The IronÂ
Ethan didn’t bother with pleasantries and went straight to the point. “Come by tomorrow morning and take Sophie to school.”Â
Emily had intended to refuse, but remembering what she had agreed to with Ethan, she still nodded. “All right.”Â
No matter what, Sophia was her daughter. And she had already promised Ethan that she would fulfill her responsibilities as a mother.Â
The next morning, Emily arrived precisely on time.Â
Sophia had once told her not to get up too early to make breakfast, saying it would disturb Nancy’s rest.Â
Since Sophia didn’t appreciate the effort, Emily saw no reason to exhaust herself trying to please anyone. She had not planned to come early to prepare breakfast anyway.Â
By the time she arrived, Rebecca had already set everythingÂ
out.Â
Emily sat at the dining table and picked up her phone to read the news.Â
Ethan and Sophia had not come downstairs yet. They ere 4:34Â

likely still asleep.Â
It was still early, so Emily decided to wait a little longer.Â
She had not been reading for long when Ethan came down from upstairs.Â
He had not changed yet and was still wearing a bathrobe.Â
Hearing movement, Emily looked up. Ethan was walking straight toward her.Â
She didn’t have time to react before he was already standing in front of her. His robe was loosely tied, revealing skin with a warm, honeyed sheen.Â
Emily remembered how firm it felt. The thought alone made her throat tighten involuntarily.Â
She quickly turned her gaze away, unwilling to let Ethan seeÂ
her fluster.Â
After a long moment, Ethan finally spoke, “Help me iron myÂ
clothes.”Â
Emily looked puzzled and glanced around. The dining room held only the two of them.Â
So he was speaking to her. 2/7Â

She lifted her head and said, “Rebecca is in the kitchen. Have her do it.”Â
She knew Nancy was his treasure. He would never let Nancy handle chores like that.Â
If this had been before, Emily would have agreed eagerly, perhaps even taken it as a favor Ethan had granted her.Â
But now, she had no intention of serving him.Â
Hearing Emily’s cool refusal, a dark look flashed in Ethan’sÂ
eyes.Â
After a moment, he asked instead, “Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for you to do it?”Â
He meant that she was his wife, and therefore should iron hisÂ
clothes.Â
Emily let out a muted laugh and refused again. “I’m going to eat. Either do it yourself or ask Rebecca. Ethan, I’m not ironing your clothes.”Â
She didn’t mention Nancy, because she knew Ethan would never ask Nancy to do it anyway.Â
Ethan looked down at Emily for a long time. He didn’t force theÂ

She found she couldn’t quite ignore it. In the end, she pushed the bedroom door open and walked in.Â
Ethan turned at the sound. Seeing it was Emily, he said nothing, his expression far from pleasant.Â
Emily walked over and held out her hand. “Give it to me.”Â
After a brief hesitation, Ethan handed her the iron.Â
Emily took it and began ironing with practiced ease.Â
In just a few movements, she finished one side. As she turned the shirt, she caught a faint scent of perfume, unmistakably feminine.Â
She didn’t need to think to know it belonged to Nancy.Â
Her focus faltered for a moment, and her hand brushed against the area the iron had just passed over. The heat was sharp. She cried out softly without meaning to.Â
Ethan heard it and frowned. “Are you all right?”Â
He stood there and asked flatly, with no sign of stepping closer to check on her.Â
Emily knew very well that even if she collapsed in front of him at that moment, it would not stir anything in him. 5/7Â

He might even think she had done it on purpose.Â
She had already refused to iron the clothes, yet came in to help anyway. Now she had burned herself in the process.Â
In his mind, he probably thought she was trying to win his attention.Â
Emily had never expected him to feel sorry for her.Â
To Ethan’s question, she answered calmly, “I’m fine.”Â
And she truly was. It was just a brief burn. Once she endured the sting, it quickly faded.Â
After she said she was fine, Ethan didn’t ask anything further.Â
Emily finished ironing his clothes, switched off the iron, and set it aside.Â
Placing the shirt down, she said to Ethan, “It’s done.”Â
With that, she turned and walked out without pausing.Â
Ethan untied his bathrobe and quickly slipped the shirt on. Then he called out to Emily, who had already reached the doorway. “By the way, stay here for the next couple of days.”Â
