Her words make me want to run outside and bang my fists against my chest while 1 howl like the Alpha I am. To me, it’s automatic that she should feel safe and protected around me but given her upbringing, I wasn’t expecting to hear that from her, not anytime soon anyway. “You are always safe and protected with me, baby. She gives me the biggest smile that I have seen since we met and it makes my heart feel full, warm even. Fuck it, I throw caution to the wind and kiss her right there in the hallway that leads to the cells, the hallway that is currently swarming with guards that are on standby in case they are needed down in the cells. I hope I haven’t gone too far or made her feel uncomfortable but I just couldn’t resist. Thankfully, the minute I pull back she once again smiles and I swear I’m already falling deep and hard for this girl. Fuck, this mate bond is so much more intense than I ever imagined it could be.

He kissed me. He kissed me right there in the middle of the hallway which is swarming with guards. He didn’t care who saw him kiss me. He wasn’t 

embarresed by them seeing us. Maybe he is in this? The smile that covered my face just a few seconds ago slowly begins to fade as emotions storm through 

my body. Hes‘ showing me all I want to see and I wasn’t lying when I said that I feel safe and protected around him but I’m still not completely convinced 

that he is all in. What if the mate bound is messing with his feelings and he’s just confused. And yes, as far as I know, he has now told me everything but 

there is still a small niggling in the back of my head that’s telling me I have to leave despite Lexi’s very loud and very regular protests. 

I shake my head trying to clear my mind, nows not the time to think about all of this. We need to go down to the cells and check on Tony and find out what the hell is going on which makes me realize something. “We haven’t spoken about what happened out in the forest before you got there. My brother 

said some things and…” 

He takes my hand in his and gently strokes the back of my hand with his thumb. “it’s ok darling, we had other stuff we needed to talk about first. How about we go down there and let them talk and you can fill in what euer details you want to or call them on any bullshit they try to spill. And before you worry about them trying to play us off. I’m behind you 100% and I will believe anything you tell me, ok? I nod feeling relieved at his words and also slightly 

amused that he knew how I would feel.

“Oh, and Lola’s magic has been bound. She can’t cast any spells until the bound is removed so you don’t have to worry.” I swear this man constantly knows what I’m thinking, it’s both terrifying and satisfying at the same time. “Come on let’s head down. Unless you’ve changed your mind?” The hopeful look on his face is cute but won’t work. “Let’s go,” I say then wait for him to take the lead. He keeps hold of my hand while he punches in a code to open the door to the cell then guides us down a bunch of creepy–looking steps and along a narrow hallway. This place is pretty creepy and not somewhere I would 

want to be.

‘Hold your breath, darling.” Why would I need to hold my breath? I’m busy thinking about why I would need to do that when we go through another door and all thoughts are lost as I instantly start gagging and coughing. The door has led us to another hallway only this one has cells running along each side of the walls and stinks of shit, piss and sick. “Fucking hell” I grow as I gag once more. A low chuckle leaves his mouth as he gives me a somewhat 

amused look. “I did warn you, darling.” 

“I don’t think anything could have prepared me for how bad it would be!” He nods now looking slightly concerned. “Sorry, darling. I should have given you better notice.” I take small breaths to take in as little of the air as possible as I try and adjust to the stink that surrounds us. It’s fine. I’m ok.” 

We walk past around 10 cells and I’m grateful to see them all empty except for one. In the far corner on my left, I can see someone sitting on some kind of makeshift bed. He’s got his knees bent and his head buried in his lap so I can’t see his face but I get the strangest feeling. I turn to look up at Nick but he just shakes his head no which is fine for now but I will be asking about whoever that is. 

All too soon any thoughts of that man fly out of my head as I hear shouting coming from further down the hallway. “Do you have any idea who I am!” My brother’s grating voice bounces off the walls and instantly makes my skin crawl. “Don’t speak unless you are spoken to. You won’t like what happens otherwise!” A different voice bounces off the walls this time and it doesn’t sound like someone who you would want to piss off. Just a few seconds later we arrive at the end of the hallway and take a left which leads us into a room well, I think it’s more of an interrogation room but I don’t have much time to look around as my brother’s dark brown eyes zoon in on me and send a sick shiver through my whole body.
