Chloe’s arrival really shook things up at Bluehaven Base.

The military took control of the base’s core operations. With the base chief gone, the Awakened Group he led disbanded overnight. 

The base was peaceful again, just like before. 

The Blaze Squad was back in business, swapping food for cores just like old times. 

They realized this was way quicker than heading out to hunt zombies. 

After a month at the base, the Blaze Squad’s overall strength had leveled up again. 

There were already quite a few powered folks who’d reached late third–level. 

That day, Chloe was heading back from the Trade Market just like any other day, when she spotted a commotion up ahead. 

A refugee with a sallow face, bony frame, and wild hair was yelling his head off at the soldiers. 

“My brother’s gone missing! Chloe must’ve killed him. You guys have to stand up for me!” the refugee shouted. 

As soon as the soldiers heard Chloe’s name, their eyes instantly filled with respect. 

Chloe wasn’t famous around the base, but to every soldier here, she was like a legend, someone one just didn’t mess with. 

“Who did you say?” one of the soldiers asked, sounding a bit stunned. 

Daisy Taylor gritted her teeth and repeated herself. 

“Chloe! She’s always had a thing for my brother, and she said if she couldn’t have him, she’d destroy him. It has to be Chloe. Please, sir, you have to stand up for me!” Daisy pleaded. 

Daisy was bawling her eyes out, her cries echoing through the air. 

Suddenly, the two soldiers in front of her snapped to attention and saluted someone behind her. 

Daisy turned around, dazed. 

There was that damn Chloe, flashing her a smug smile. 

“You looking for me?” Chloe said with a smirk, sounding totally unfazed 

Daisy stared at Chloe, her eyes wide and full of disbelief. 

Her hand shook as she pointed a trembling finger at Chloe. 

“Y–You’re Chloe?” Daisy stammered, barely able to get the words out. 

Chloe crossed her arms and looked at Daisy calmly, a smirk playing on her lips. “Wow, you look way older than you did a month ago.” 

Daisy was nothing like the innocent, spotless girl she used to be. Now, she looked like she’d been through hell, like one of those refugees you see in disaster zones. 

Honestly, if one didn’t hear her speak, one would never guess it was Daisy.

Chloe, meanwhile, was rocking a spotless red dress, her skin pale and perfect. The subzero temps didn’t seem to bother her 

at all. 

The difference between them was so huge. Daisy just couldn’t wrap her head around it. 

“Ah, you slut! You killed my brother, didn’t you? Admit it! I’ll kill you myself!” Daisy shrieked, her voice cracking with rage. 

Who cares about my brother?‘ Daisy thought bitterly. I’m just pissed that the girl who used to worship the ground he walked on is now living way better than me.’ 

Chloe sidestepped, ended up right behind Daisy, and kicked her square in the back. 

“What a bitch,” Chloe sneered. 

Chloe glanced at the two soldiers. “Never seen her before.” 

She just walked off. 

Behind her, Daisy’s screams of pain and rage echoed through the cold air. 

That kick had left her seriously injured, and with no medicine to treat her, she was left to slowly die in the freezing wind, with no hope of help. 

As Chloe walked away, a confident smile lingered on her lips. She stood at the very top of the powered world now, while Daisy was just a powerless nobody.

But then, Chloe realized something. Sophie, the one responsible for her death in her previous life, wasn’t at Bluehaven Base 

after all. 

Chloe licked her lips, a wicked smile curling at the corners of her mouth. 

‘I’ve found the person I was looking for. It’s time to leave, Chloe thought to herself. 

When Chloe arrived at Graham’s villa, the place was still buzzing with activity 

In just a month, the military had taken full control of the base. They’d found a ton of supplies in the base’s private storage, but for all the refugees in the city, it was barely a drop in the bucket. 

Right then, Chloe could hear Graham yelling into the phone, his voice full of anger. 

“What? A riot? I busted my ass to bring in all that food for them, and they still aren’t satisfied?” Graham shouted, his voice booming. 

Even from across the room, Chloe could see the veins bulging on Graham’s forehead. 

Chloe gave a couple of awkward coughs. “Um, sorry to butt in,” she said. 

As soon as Graham heard her voice, his whole demeanor flipped; he instantly broke into a big smile. 

He hung up the phone without another word. 

“Captain Yates! What brings you here? Come on in, and have a seat!” Graham said, his voice warm and welcoming. 

He quickly ordered someone to bring her some coffee. 

“Well, we’ve been imposing on Bluehaven Base for too long. It’s time for us to move on,” Chloe said.

Graham froze with his cup halfway to his lips, looking genuinely conflicted. “Captain Yates, are you really set on leaving Bluehaven Base?” 

Then he suddenly remembered what Chloe had mentioned before, her plans to build her own base. 

He took a deep breath and quickly suggested, “If you’re thinking about starting a base, how about making Bluehaven Base your own?” 

His stern face broke into a hopeful, almost pleading smile. 

Chloe froze for a second, totally caught off guard. ‘No way. Is he actually saying what I think he’s saying?‘ she thought. 

Graham straightened up, looking super serious all of a sudden. 

“How about this? Why don’t you become the base chief of Bluehaven Base? I’ll be your subordinate, ready to follow your orders anytime,” Graham said, his voice full of sincerity. 

Graham was really pulling out all the stops to keep Chloe around. 

Chloe’s eyes went wide, and she waved her hands frantically. “No way, that’s not happening!” 

‘Are you kidding me? Bluehaven Base is packed with refugees. I’m not about to feed thousands of freeloaders and ungrateful moochers, Chloe thought, rolling her eyes. 

If she ever wanted her own base, she wouldn’t care if people were good or loyal, but at the very least, they had to know how to adapt and actually work hard. 

She wanted nothing to do with the kind of people who were always trying to pull a fast one or stir up trouble. 

Her base could have regular folks, even people without powers, but they had to be absolutely obedient. 

Graham got worked up. “Why not? Isn’t your plan to go out and start your own base anyway?” 

“To be honest with you, I haven’t made any real plans to build a base yet. I just want to travel farther and see what’s out there,” Chloe replied. 

Graham stuck his chin out stubbornly. “Look, if you become the base chief of Bluehaven Base, you can still go wherever you want. Just leave the base’s operations to me when you’re away.” 

‘Whatever it takes, as long as Chloe stays, that’s all that matters to me, he wondered. 

Chloe stood up. “Thanks for thinking so highly of me, but I’m more of a free spirit. Managing a base this huge? Honestly, I’d probably screw it up.” 

Chloe was totally unmoved, no matter how hard Graham tried, and the light in his eyes faded. 

He let out a deep sigh. 

“Alright then. If you ever decide you want a base, just come back anytime. The position of base chief will always be yours if you want it,” Graham said. 

Chloe pursed her lips briefly and said, “I hope we can stay in touch. If anything comes up at the base, just let me know. I’ll always have your back.” 

With that, they’d struck up a solid alliance. 

From now on, whenever Chloe needed news from the outside or wanted in on any big trades, she’d still have to rely on the main base.
