Chapter 20 Abigail Would Quit

Abigail was struck hard enough that her head snapped slightly to the side. A metallic taste of blood filled her mouth, and a searing pain rushed from her cheek. 

She gritted her teeth, fighting back the tears, and stared coldly at the person who had come. 

James glared at her, his expression sullen, and snapped, “Abigail! Do you really have to be this cruel? What has Caroline ever done 

to you?” 

Despite it being work hours, there were still plenty of people 

coming and going from the break room. 

Everyone was taken aback by James‘ brutal slap. 

Many in the company had heard about the incident involving the mix–up of the Winchester family’s daughter. 

They had anticipated that Abigail might face difficulties within the group, but they never expected James to be sheartless. 

Abigail remained silent. She felt neither anger nor disappointment; she simply looked at James coldly. 

After striking her in a moment of impulse, James felt a little

regretful. 

Yet Abigail’s expression brought back unpleasant memories, fueling his anger and humiliation. He shouted, “How dare you glare at me? Do you think I was wrong to hit you? 

“You threw hot coffee at Caroline today. Are you planning to hit 

her tomorrow? Apologize to her right now.” 

Abigail scoffed and refused to say anything. 

Caroline, feigning thoughtfulness, spoke up. “Dad, it’s alright. Abigail didn’t mean it.” 

She smiled sweetly, appearing considerate as she added, “I understand her feelings. If this helps her vent, then it’s fine for me to take a little hit.” 

On one side stood the indifférent Abigail, and on the other was the seemingly thoughtful Caroline. 

Naturally, James favored Caroline. He pointed at Abigail 

and scolded, “Look at yourself compared to Caroline. I’m so disappointed in you, Abigail! 

“Over the years, you’ve relied on your status as the lady of the Winchester family to disregard even me.

“But remember, the Winchester Group doesn’t belong to you; it belongs to the Winchester family. 

“Without your title, you are nothing. How dare you act so brazenly 

in front of me?” 

No one could remain indifferent after hearing his words. 

Moreover, Abigail had devoted so much to the Winchester Group 

over the years. 

In the end, all her hard work and passion had earned her only 

accusations and disdain. 

Abigail lowered her gaze, her heart sinking. 

Although she had once been the lady of the Winchester family, she had joined the company after enduring rigorous assessments and interviews, climbing her way up from the ground level to her 

current role. 

Initially, no one in the company even knew she was James‘ daughter; she had made a name for herself through her efforts. 

Now, James‘ words made it seem as though everything she had achieved was merely a result of her family name. 

It was quite a blow to Abigail.

Looking up at James, she said coldly, “Don’t worry. I’ll be leaving 

the company once the Envision Group project wraps up.” 

The people around her reacted with disbelief. 

Abigail was leaving? 

How was this possible? 

Anyone could walk away from the company, but not Abigail. 

Everyone knew she treated the workplace like her home, tirelessly dedicating herself to work aside from eating and sleeping. 

It was largely due to her efforts that the Winchester Group had quickly established itself in Claudia within just a few years. 

Her departure would feel like the company losing a vital limb. 

How would it manage to secure impressive projects in the future? 

Would it achieve its goal of going public within the next five years?
