Chapter 128 I Don’t Have a Mommy Like That 

The rain had been lashing down nonstop all day. In the late afternoon, at half–past five, Emily wrapped up her work and made her way to the kindergarten. By six o’clock, she’d reached the place. 

There, at the school entrance, under the watchful eye of the teacher, Sophia was already waiting, small backpack on her back. 

As soon as she caught sight of Emily, the little girl jumped up in excitement and shouted, “Mommy!” 

Emily flashed her a quick smile, but didn’t step inside to get 

her. 

Sophia, seeing this, intended to walk out herself. However, Emily stopped her promptly. “Hey, Sophie. I’m here for Molly. Just wait a bit. Rebecca’ll come and take you back to Joy Gardens,” she said. 

At her words, Sophia’s brows furrowed, and her eyes welled up with tears in an instant. “What about Dad?” 

Emily’s heart ached at the sight of her teary–eyed daughter. She quickly looked away and replied, “Daddy’s swamped with work.”

Emily couldn’t help but smile at Molly’s enthusiasm. But then her gaze shifted to Sophia, who was standing beside Molly, almost hidden. Sophia was clutching her backpack strap, head bowed low, and her shoulders were quivering. 

Clearly, she was sobbing. 

Emily’s heart felt like it was being squeezed. She wanted to call out to Sophia, but the words got stuck in her throat.

After showering Emily with thanks, Molly tugged at Emily’s sleeve to get her to bend down. Then she hugged and kissed Emily, showing her love. 

Meanwhile, from inside the school, Sophia watched. Her grip on the backpack strap tightened. She glared at Molly, eyes blazing with anger. 

That was her mom! Why did Molly get to hug and kiss her? Why did her mom come to pick Molly up? 

Sophia felt both wronged and angry, but with her mom ignoring her, no one seemed to notice her pain. 

Meanwhile, Emily ruffled Molly’s hair gently and tidied it up a bit. “Molly, say bye to the teacher,” she said. 

Molly raised her hand and waved at Amanda. “Bye, Ms. 

Miller!”

Rebecca wanted to say something several times but held back. Emily could sense it, yet she gave her no chance to speak. 

“Molly, let’s go home,” Emily said, looking down at Molly. 

Molly nodded. “Okay.” 

With that, Emily led Molly to the car without looking back.
