Meanwhile, Ethan was leaning against the wall of the restroom. Before he had even finished speaking, Emily had already hung up. 

Looking at the phone screen as it went dark, Ethan felt an inexplicable irritation rise within him. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it. 

Just as the flame from the lighter flared up, Andrew walked out of the restroom and asked curiously, “Who were you calling? Since when do you make calls like that?” 

Ethan took a deep drag and exhaled slowly. As the smoke dispersed, his gaze darkened noticeably. “My wife.” 

Andrew paused for a moment, and then it finally dawned on him that Ethan meant Emily. 

“What is going on? You never call her,” Andrew said. 

Ethan felt that something about himself had changed too. Lately, he had been thinking about Emily and wondering where she was. 

Then again, she was Sophia’s mother. It was only natural for him to care.

When he returned to the table, Sophia was so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open. She was leaning against Nancy’s legs and had nearly dozed off several times already. 

Seeing Ethan and Andrew come back, Nancy finally looked up and asked, “Ethan, Andrew, why were you gone for so long?” 

Ethan sat down beside Nancy without a change in expression. “He was busy in there.” 

Shawn was tasting wine, and at Ethan’s comment, he choked on his drink. 

Andrew naturally knew Ethan was shifting the blame onto him. Seeing Shawn laugh at his expense, he shot him an annoyed glare.

Sophia rubbed her eyes, yawned, and said, “I always sleep with Nancy.”

Curious, Sophia climbed onto the sofa and leaned toward Andrew. 

Lowering his voice near her ear, Andrew said, “Because otherwise you would be getting in the way of your dad and Nancy doing something important.” 

In Andrew’s mind, Nancy had always been the one truly suited for Ethan. 

That was why, when Ethan had brought up Emily earlier without warning, Andrew immediately sensed trouble for Nancy. 

So he decided to give things a push behind the scenes. 

With a bright little third wheel like Sophia around, the two of them couldn’t even share a bed. How were they supposed to 3/5 grow closer?

Andrew whispered into her ear, “Do you want your dad and Nancy to stay with you all the time? Do you want a little brother or sister?” 

At the mention of a brother or sister, Sophia instinctively resisted. “No. Having a baby means bleeding. I don’t want Nancy to bleed.” 

Sophia grew a bit agitated, and both Ethan and Nancy instinctively looked over. 

Andrew quickly soothed her. “Okay, no bleeding, no bleeding.” 

After Sophia gradually calmed down, Andrew asked again, “Then are you brave enough to sleep by yourself?” 

After thinking it over, Sophia nodded. “Yes.” 

Andrew immediately snapped his fingers. “That is right. Starting today, you will sleep on your own.” 

Sophia pouted, “Even though Nancy usually sleeps with me, when I wake up in the middle of the night, she is never in my room.” 

Her voice wasn’t loud, but it wasn’t quiet either. 

Not only did Andrew hear it, but so did everyone else. 

Andrew and Shawn instantly understood what she meant.

Nancy also sensed what they were thinking. Her face flushed immediately, and she lowered her head, too embarrassed to say a word.

After a moment, he stood up and said to Sophia, “Sophie, it’s time to go home.” 

Sophia looked up at him, clearly reluctant to leave. 

Seeing this, Ethan frowned. “Have you forgotten what your mother told you?” 

At the mention of Emily, Sophia felt a surge of displeasure, but when she saw the dark look on Ethan’s face, she didn’t dare 

argue. 

“All right,” Sophia said. She stood up and reached out her hand to Ethan.
