“Ugh, my head really hurts. Great–uncle Jonathan, I’ve got a headache,” Ava murmured, lightly pressing her fingers to her forehead.
She was afraid that Jonathan would continue pressing the issue, so she immediately exaggerated her discomfort while deliberately weakening her voice.
Jonathan panicked at once. He already knew that a woman named Jolene had used the primal power on her, which was precisely why his fury had been so difficult to contain after they returned.
“Ava, where does it hurt?” he asked urgently. “Don’t scare me like this. Come, come, we’re going to the hospital. Right now!”
The group immediately rushed Ava to a hospital under the Holcomb Corporation.
Keith’s mother, Claire, personally oversaw a comprehensive examination. When she confirmed that Ava had indeed been struck by the primal power, even she couldn’t help feeling shaken.
Asher was still wearing his torn, disheveled clothes.
Ava spoke up softly, “Mrs. Holcomb, could you also have someone look at Asher’s back? Great–uncle Jonathan whipped him several times.”
He shook his head repeatedly. “I’m fine. It’s just surface wounds. Really–it’s nothing.”
“Ava, your condition is more urgent,” Claire said gently. I’ll have someone treat Asher’s injuries afterward. For now, you need to lie down and undergo a neural–link scan.”
She obediently lay inside the medical pod. Before long, darkness swallowed her consciousness.
He watched the red indicator light turn on and muttered anxiously, “She’ll be fine, right? She has to be fine.”
Claire finally lost patience with the constant muttering. Everyone, out. I’ll notify you once the results are in.”
The group stepped out of the examination room.
Ryan, who had been suppressing his anger the entire time, finally snapped. He drove a punch straight into Asher’s face without warning.
“You look pretty pleased with yourself,” he sneered. “She cares about you that much. You must feel great, huh?”
Jonathan shot Asher a cold glance but said nothing after seeing his grandson get hit. He turned and strode away, pretending he hadn’t seen a thing.
The moment he left, the others all turned toward Asher and closed in.
Asher clutched his face and glared at them. “What are you doing? I’m warning you–don’t take this too far!”
Keith smiled, casually slinging an arm around his neck. Asher, let’s find somewhere private to talk.”
Ten minutes later, he lay sprawled on the ground, completely unable to move. Aside from his face–which

was barely recognizable–the rest of his body was covered in bruises. He looked at them and sneered, “You’re all just jealous! Admit it!”
“Ah, tsk tsk. Can’t help it if Ava doesn’t like you guys. Ava and I are a real family–of course, we’re close. You guys are jealous, and I get it. As your magnanimous future brother–in–law, I won’t hold it against you,” he retorted.
Ryan kicked him again, his expression icy. “Please. You’re only smug because you happened to be born with the surname Morren. What exactly are you so proud of
“No matter how close you are,” he continued coldly, “you’ll only ever be her brother.”
Asher snorted, “That’s some seriously irrational jealousy I’m not wasting my breath on you–a kid like you isn’t worth it.”
“Who are you calling a kid?” he snapped. “How much older are you than me, huh? You sound ridiculous–do you really have the nerve to mock me?”
He looked ready to swing at Asher again, but Ethan stepped in and grabbed his arm, holding him back.
“That’s enough, Ryan,” Ethan said calmly. “If you keep hitting him and his face ends up ruined, Ava will notice the moment she comes out. And then she’ll just feel sorry for him all over again.”
“Tch–scheming b*stard,” he spat.
Keith returned holding a green vial. He pried Asher’s mouth open without the slightest hint of gentleness and forced the medicine down his throat. “You don’t deserve this,” he said coolly. “If you’re planning to play the victim in front of her and fish for sympathy, I’m not giving you that chance.”
The medicine spread through Asher’s body with a cool, refreshing sensation. Almost instantly, the pain eased. His eyes brightened–but unfortunately, his mouth remained just as irritating as ever.

“Well then,” he drawled, “you vent your anger on poor, innocent older brother–and when Ava comes out, I’m absolutely tattling on you.”
Laurent let out a cold laugh, grabbed him by the collar, and turned to Keith. “How much longer until Ava’s done?”
“About twenty minutes,” Keith replied.
Laurent nodded. “Perfect!”
The sound of fists landing followed immediately.
“D*mn it!” Asher yelled. “Laurent, what the hell–don’t you know the rules? If you’re going to hit someone, you don’t hit their face!”
Mason cracked his neck, interlaced his fingers, and glanced at Laurent. “Leave ten minutes for me.”
“You lunatics!” Asher shouted. “I’m telling Ava to divorce every single one of you!”
Mason sneered, shrugging off his jacket as he loosened the buttons at his collar. “Then I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. Why don’t you keep your eyes open and see whether Ava divorces us—or not!”
Asher was beaten again, this time in a relentless barrage. After that, he finally shut his mouth, lips pressed tightly together, not daring to utter another word.

When Ava finally emerged from the examination room her first glance went straight to Asher. She saw that he had changed into clean clothes and looked to be in decent spirits; she naturally assumed his injuries had already been treated.
“Asher, did you get your wounds taken care of?” she asked.
Asher’s expression twitched slightly. He nodded vaguely “Yeah.”
