“I heard everything from Grandpa. You’re amazing.” Jan gave her a thumbs–up. “I told you you aren’t ordinary. There had to be a reason the Match Bureau triggered forced matching.” 

After saying that, she glanced at the men in the room, pulled over a chair, sat down, and crossed her legs. “You guys listen up. My sister just turned eighteen. Don go too far.” 

Ryan rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. “Worry about yourself. Stay out of other people’s business.” 

Jane let out a dry laugh. “I’m her sister. Why can’t I interfere? She’s young and inexperienced. You’re all so much older than her. Of course she can’t outplay you.” 

Ryan curled his lip. “I’m not even going to argue with you.” 

Seeing the mood turning tense, Ava quickly spoke to change the topic. “Jane, does the police station need me to give a statement?” 

“Your brother–in–law will bring people over later. It’s just the usual procedure. You don’t need to worry,” Jane said. “Also, they confirmed that Jolene used primal power on you. Since you weren’t injured, she won’t be punished much. If her family is willing to pay, she’ll probably get bailed out right away. 

“But don’t worry. I gave her a hard lesson yesterday. Shes only a first–tier awakened user. She’s been awakened for years with no progress at all. That’s just embarrassing.” 

Jane had heard of Jolene before. She was flashy, obsessed with men, and always went out in search of hookups. Her reputation outside wasn’t good. 

Ava also knew Jolene wouldn’t face serious consequences. She hadn’t been hurt. Even if Jolene had actually killed her, she would’ve only served a few years. With enough money and connections, she might not even go to jail. 

That was how this world worked. The strong preyed on the weak. To the privileged, the law was just decoration. 

“Oh, right. Skyler posted a public apology yesterday afternoon. He also announced he’s leaving the racing scene. Do you want to hold him responsible?” Jane asked 

Ava shook her head. “Forget it. He already apologized and quit racing. He’s been punished enough. There’s no need to push it further.” 

There was no point chasing someone who was already cornered. Ava didn’t want to waste her time on people who didn’t matter. 

“Ava, Grandpa said you awakened a new ability. Let me see it,” Jane said with curiosity. It wasn’t primal power but something completely new. 

Ava opened her palm. A small, tender sprout rested in her hand. Jane looked at it from every angle and clicked her tongue in amazement. 

“Ava, are these leaves real?” Jane asked, clearly tempted. 

“Of course they’re real. When it first appeared, it was just a tiny bud. After all these years, it only grew to this 

size.” 

As she spoke, Ava gently touched one of the leaves. The little sprout seemed to sense her touch. The leaf

softly curled around her finger in an affectionate way. 

“Wow, Ava. It’s interacting with you. That’s insane,” Jane said, completely amazed.

“This ability is way more fun than primal power. Power users grow a force core in their brain. As their primal power increases, the core changes color. It just sits there and can’t interact with anyone. Yours is basically a human–like cheat. I’m so jealous.” 

Ava liked her little plant a lot. “I like her too. She’s a girl 

“Huh? Plants have genders now?” 

“Normal plants don’t. But this one in my hand feels like a girl to me.” 

Ava leaned down and kissed it. The little thing seemed shy. A few leaves curled up and hugged its own 

stems. 

The others exchanged looks. 

Great. 

They couldn’t even compete with the little plant in her hand. 

“Keith sent a message. He’s on his way back to the hospital,” Laurent said, breaking the affectionate moment. 

When Ava heard Keith was coming back, her attention shifted immediately. The small plant in her palm disappeared. 

“Did he say anything else?” she asked. 

“No. If you want to know, you can ask him yourself.” 

Ava didn’t feel that curious. “Forget it. He’s coming back anyway.” 

“Ava, how are you feeling today?” Claire asked. She wore a white coat and walked into the room alone. When she saw so many people inside, she looked surprised. “You all came so early.” 

Jane jumped in. “I’d say these guys didn’t even go home last night.” 

Claire smiled. “That’s normal. With such an outstanding wife, they’d want to stay by her side.” 

Ava felt awkward after being teased like that.
