“Heh, that’s between Avie and me. Why would I tell you? Keith’s words hit like a punch.
Ava felt like she was a walking target. She glanced left, then right, and the whole scene made her feel like she was being roasted alive. Being dragged along by these two towering guys didn’t help either–her tiny frame seriously couldn’t keep up with their strides.
Ethan saw this and called out, “Hey, slow down a bit. She can’t keep up with you two. If it’s easier, we can swap positions.”
Keith nodded. “Yeah, that’s on me. Avie, you okay?”
When they reached Keith’s hovercar, Keith stopped and looked at Laurent. “You coming up too?”
Laurent met his gaze for a beat. “Ava’s right. Things are being watched pretty closely outside, and your hovercar’s bigger. My light armored vehicle is already on autopilot. It can help distract them if needed. So yeah, you get to be the driver.” He climbed in first, then reached out his hand to Ava.
Keith snorted and turned to the other three, who hadn’t even shown an ounce of awareness. “You guys not gonna drive your cars?”
Ryan smirked, not quite reaching his eyes, and said, “Your hovercar’s huge. It’s not like we won’t fit.” Then he climbed in.
Mason didn’t say a word either. He just followed suit and got in.
Ethan, walking at the back, patted Keith on the shoulder. “Thanks for carrying this one, man.”
Keith looked at these shameless guys and couldn’t help laughing out of frustration.
From now on, anytime I sneak off on a date with Avie, I make sure these guys never find out.
Ava chose to ignore the tension quietly passing between them, acting like she didn’t notice a thing.
Who am I? Where am I? I don’t know anything at all.
In the end, Keith took the wheel. He lifted his eyes and glanced at the people in the back. Ava sat wedged between Laurent and Ryan, while Mason and Ethan were in the last row. His gaze slid to the empty passenger seat beside him. His expression hardened, and he pressed the ignition without a word.
Ava hated the atmosphere. What made it worse was that Laurent had been holding her right hand the whole time. She chose her words carefully before speaking. “Laurent, could you let go of my hand?”
Laurent gave her fingers a light squeeze. All he could think about was how soft her hand felt, almost unreal. When he heard her question, he lowered his head and looked at it properly. Her small, fair hand rested in his palm. Against her porcelain skin, his own looked several shades darker, making her look even more delicate and luminous. “Did I squeeze too hard?”
Ava blinked. “No. But we are already in the hovercar. You can let go now.”
Laurent chuckled under his breath. “Nope. I am holding it for the rest of my life.”

Laurent’s hand, finding it unbearably irritating. “Do you have zero manners? Who forces a girl like that?”
Laurent turned his gaze on him, calm and indifferent. “If you do not like it, move to the back. Ava has not complained, so why are you worked up? And for the record, I am legally allowed.”
Ryan clenched his teeth, anger flashing in his eyes.
Ugh. He is stubborn and impossible to deal with. I am not wasting another second on him.
Ryan’s eyes landed on Ava’s left hand. It rested quietly on her knee, just a hair’s breadth away from him. Her nails were neatly trimmed, rounded, bare except for a faint wash of pink.
I don’t know what it feels like to hold her hand.
Even with that thought in his mind, Ryan didn’t hesitate He just reached out and wrapped his hand around hers.
Ava hadn’t even processed it before her left hand was already in Ryan’s palm. He looked like he’d found some little treasure, squeezing her palm and the back of her hand, then poking at her nails.
When Ryan met Ava’s gaze, a rare flicker of embarrassment crossed him, though his expression betrayed nothing. His eyes dropped to the space between her eyebrows as he said, a little uncertain. “I’m legally your

“You’re not a toy. You’re clearly my wife,” Laurent said, grabbing her right hand and lifting it to his lips for a soft kiss. He lowered his gaze, looking at her. “I’m past the playful stage. I’m an adult.”
A shiver ran across the back of Ava’s hand, a ripple spreading under her skin. There was fire in Laurent’s sharp eyes. When he looked down at her, it felt like a jol of electricity running through her.
Her cheeks flamed red in an instant. “You… you…‘
Ryan shot Laurent a sharp look.
Of all people, he’s a soldier, yet he does things his own way.
Ryan didn’t want to admit he’d felt a twinge of jealousy just now. But with Laurent acting like that, he couldn’t pull anything like it again. Besides, he had no interest in doing anything intimate with someone watching.
He pushed those restless thoughts aside and let his gaze settle back on Ava’s face.
She only got her hand kissed and her cheeks flushed red. Seriously, is she always this easy to embarrass? Didn’t she say she’d had a boyfriend before? How is she this innocent?
