If it were anyone else, Mason wouldn’t take them seriously. But these few men were different–they were no worse than he was in any respect, and they all happened to share the same wife.Â
If she were to choose only one of them someday, Mason honestly didn’t think he’d have much of an advantage. If she kept treating everyone equally and remained emotionally distant like this, he would actually prefer things to stay in this delicate balance.Â
Ethan sat down beside Ava, with Ryan taking the seat next to him.Â
Keith shrugged and sat on the opposite side of the table. Meanwhile, Laurent glanced briefly at Mason before sitting down next to Keith.Â
Ava looked at one, then another, and felt a headache coming on. They weren’t even officially living together yet, and somehow it already felt like looking after a group of children, each one demanding candy to keep them satisfied.Â
Pretending she hadn’t understood what Mason meant earlier, Ava picked up the menu first and ordered a few dishes she liked. Then, she looked up at them.Â
“You guys go ahead and order too. I don’t really know your preferences. Just pick whatever you want. Since you all transferred such a ridiculous amount of money to me earlier, I’ll just order a few popular dishes.”Â
The others laughed and began flipping through the menu. While they were busy ordering, Ava replied to Jane’s messages. “Sorry, going to the washroom,” she told the guys before heading out.Â
Upon relieving the pressure in her bladder, she washed her hands and stared at herself in the mirror with a sigh. Then, she tapped on Jane’s avatar again, thought about it for a moment, and finally mentioned the enormous transfers those men had sent her.Â
After accepting a person’s hospitality, it would become harder to speak up and stand one’s ground. Ava couldn’t shake the feeling of guilt. How could she feel confident after accepting such a huge amount of money?Â
Jane: Have they finally made a move? I thought those gentlemen were still planning to act aloof. Since they’ve given it to you, just keep it. That amount is nothing to them. Don’t overthink it, alright? If a man wants to pursue a woman but refuses to put in effort or spend anything, who will want a stingy guy like that?Â
Ava: It’s such a huge amount, though. A few thousand is more than enough.Â
Jane: Girl, what’s wrong with you? They’re being generous, and you’re here stressing yourself to death? These men have been out in society for years and have built up serious personal wealth. That amount isn’t even enough to buy a decent hovercar! That’s practically nothing! Saying something like that would be slapping them in the face!Â
Ava didn’t know how to respond.Â
Jane: What do you mean by that? If a man is willing to spend money on you, it’s because you’re worth it. Think of it that way–do you feel better? I know you had it tough growing up, and for more than ten years, all your energy went into studying. You’re still a girl living in the past. In this society, if a man doesn’t have the ability and isn’t generous, no woman will look twice at him.Â
Jane: Take your brothers–in–law, for example. Except for Gerard, who’s still in school and isn’t working yet, but he’s using his allowance to splurge on me. He’s young, and he listens to whatever I say. As for the others, back when they were courting me, they spent a tiny fortune too. Men are like that–if you refuse to use theirÂ

money, they’ll actually feel uneasy. The more you spend the more motivated they are to earn. There are so many men in the world; if they don’t compete with each other, how are they supposed to win a woman’s favor? How else do they continue their bloodline?Â
Ava: Okay, I get it. We’re about to have lunch now. We’ve picked up the clothes,Â
Jane: When I get back, show it to me. I want to see what you look like in a silk dress!Â
Ava: Alright, bye..Â
Putting away her Holoband, Ava stepped out of the ladies‘ restroom. As soon as she walked out, she saw Ryan pinning another man against the wall. At once, she widened her eyes in shock. “What are you doing?”Â
In that split second, countless absurd possibilities flashed through her mind. Ryan’s face wasn’t clearly visible, and the man he was restraining was wearing a mask.Â
Judging by their height, the other guy was nearly a head shorter than him.Â
Ryan immediately let go. “I didn’t do anything!”Â
Soren shouted, “Do you treat your own people like some alien creature? You vanished without a trace, ditching everyone and skipping training. On top of that you suddenly canceled a job we secured half a year ago. Do you know how much money that cost us? If I didn’t have business here today, how would I even know you were out here having a nice meal?”Â
Thinking about it made Soren want to cry. Was it easy being an agent? Babysitting these walking disasters every day–especially this troublemaker, who was absolutely the hardest to deal with!Â
He’d seen Ryan come out, not head to the men’s restroom, but lurking suspiciously near the women’s side. Soren’s brain almost short–circuited. He’d only tapped his shoulder, and the next second, he was slammed against the wall. If he hadn’t yelled, he might’ve actually been beaten up.Â
It had only been a few days, and this troublemaker didn’t even recognize his own agent anymore?Â
Soren was beyond miserable, but of course, he wouldn’t say that out loud.Â
“I don’t know him!” Ryan insisted.Â
Ava looked at the blond man, dressed flamboyantly like a gaudy butterfly. When he heard Ryan claim not to know him, his eyes almost popped out. He yanked off his mask and jabbed a finger at his own face.Â
“Look at me! Look at this face! Do you recognize me now? How dare you say that! My dearest troublemaker! You’ve been idle for days already. Can you please get back to work and earn a living?”Â
