He hugged her tight, refusing to let go.

At this point, Briana was completely at his mercy. No one could save her now.

“The more you try to run from me, the more I want you close,” Shepard said, his voice low. “Be good, Briana. Don’t make a scene, and let’s go back to the room.”

He held her close, all but dragging her toward the bedroom.

Briana had no choice but to go along with him.

When they reached the bedroom door, Briana suddenly stomped hard on Shepard’s foot.

While he was still wincing in pain, she broke free and dashed into the room.

Briana raced into the room, slamming the door behind her.

Briana stomped her foot hard and shot him a fierce glare. “Shepard, are you ever going to quit?”

“Nope,” he replied, his voice low and steady. “Briana, we’ve got a whole lifetime ahead of us.”

“Who said I’m stuck with you for life?” Briana snapped back.

“You are,” Shepard replied, totally unfazed. “With me.”

Briana couldn’t even be bothered to answer him.

Shepard had just found out about the baby, and he was riding high on that newfound energy.

No matter how much she tried to shut him down or push him away, he just shrugged it off and kept coming back for more.

But if she kept treating him like he was invisible, just like he used to freeze her out, he wouldn’t last long.

Shepard, who was used to living the high life and always calling the shots, had never had to put up with this kind of crap before.

Her eyes just skimmed over him, pretending he was invisible. She did her own thing, like skincare, blow–drying her hair, and then slipped into bed, put on her sleep mask, and off the lights.

Shepard didn’t make a peep, just lay there on the couch, totally chill

Briana could tell he was trying not to toss and turn

much. He didn’t want to wake her

up.

After all, that couch was anything but comfortable.

Having someone else suddenly in her space

threw Briana off at first. She was tense, always watching her back.

But sleep finally won out, and she drifted off into dreams.

Her breathing evened out, slow and steady.

Meanwhile, Shepard was wide awake on the couch, unable to sleep at all.

He kept stealing glances at Briana, and finally, late into the night, he slipped off the couch and into the bed beside her.

As soon as he lay down next to Briana, he instantly felt sleepy.

The night was deep and dark, and then slowly the sky started to brighten up.

Morning had come.

When Briana opened her eyes, she noticed her sleep mask was missing.

She rolled over and saw Shepard lying on his side on the couch.

She thought, ‘Wait, what?

‘He actually crashed on the couch all night? Didn’t sneak into my bed at all?

‘Wow, that’s new.’

Weirdly enough, Briana almost wanted to give him a little credit.

She rubbed her eyes and absentmindedly let her hand fall onto the bed.

She thought, ‘Wait a second….

Why is the spot next to me still warm?

not cold. It’s actually warm.

‘Someone has definitely slept there.

‘But the only other person in the room is Shepard.

‘And he’s right there on the couch.

Just as Briana was still puzzling it over, Shepard sudet called out, “Morning, Briana.”

Briana frowned, shot him a look, then rolled over and turned her back to him.

She picked up her phone to check the time.

Meanwhile, Shepard was already up.
