Chapter 111 Let Her Tag AlongÂ

Avery frowned. All her life, she had wished for a gentle, obedient daughter, but Margaret was nothing like that.Â
She inherited her dad’s personality and grew up with her father and two older brothers, so she was always stubborn and strong–willed and never really close to Avery. Her granddaughter Jane was even more high- spirited and fiery, the opposite of the soft, amiable granddaughter Avery had dreamed of.Â
“Grandma, Jane and Ava are both outstanding girls. You’re just a little too hard on them sometimes.” Grace suddenly spoke up from the side.Â
Avery sighed and looked at Grace. “You’re always so thoughtful. You speak gently and always know how to comfort people.”Â
Jane nearly rolled her eyes into the back of her head. Seeing that look of disdain, Ava almost burst out laughing, but she quickly looked away.Â
“Enough, Grace, you hardly ever come to Capitol Planet, so you don’t have to spend all your time with an old lady like me. Go join the younger ones and enjoy yourself.”Â
After she finished, Avery patted Grace’s hand and told Jane, “Jane, this is Grace’s first time on Capitol Planet. She doesn’t know anyone. Take her along with Ava and introduce her around.”Â
Jane’s face darkened. She held her temper and said, “Today is Ava’s coming–of–age party. Why should I bring her along?”Â
Grace noticed things were getting tense and quickly spoke up. “Grandma, it’s really fine, I can look around on my own. For an event like this, Jane should stay with Ava. I don’t want to intrude.”Â
“Jane!” Avery’s voice grew sharper, her expression serious.Â
Ava immediately took Jane’s hand. “Grandmother, Jane and I will show her around.”Â
When Avery finally left, Jane said, “Are you out of your mind? This is your day! Why are you dragging along someone who doesn’t even belong here?”Â
She glared at Grace, annoyed. Grace really is something. She managed to get Grandmother to bring her, a complete outsider, all the way to Capitol Planet. And she has the nerve to demand something so ridiculous. Hmph!Â
“Grace, if you’ve got any sense, you’d go do your own thing. Today isn’t about you.”Â
Grace looked genuinely anxious. “Sorry, Jane. I didn’t mean to bother you. It’s just my first time her b Grandma is only worried about me.”Â
Jane’s anger kept rising. She wished she could just kick Grace out of the Morren family right then and there.Â
Ava glanced at Grace. She seemed like someone who was good at scheming.Â
“Jane’s just concerned about me. It’s not personal. You don’t need to act so fragile, as if we’re bullying you.” As Ava spoke, she held Jane’s arm. She hadn’t liked Grace from the start–her eyes were too sharp and full of ambition.Â

“If you want to tag along, then go ahead. We’re family, and Grandma asked us to, after all. But just so you know, I don’t care what you’re here for. As long as you don’t drag us into it or embarrass the Morren family, do whatever you want otherwise.”Â
Grace noticed that Ava’s words were polite, and her face showed no annoyance. Compared to Jane, she was younger but definitely more composed.Â
Meeting those pitch–black eyes, Grace felt as if her own petty thoughts had already been seen through.Â
She awkwardly looked away and gave a sheepish smile. “Ava, you really misunderstood me. I’m not trying to ruin your coming–of–age party. I’m just a small–town girl who’s never seen a party like this before. Sorry if I made a fool of myself.”Â
Jane let out a cold laugh. “Grace, I know exactly what you’re thinking. You’re already married and still fishing for another rich husband? Don’t be surprised if it blows up in your face.”Â
Jane’s blunt words left Grace flustered. “I… I’m not! You’ve really misunderstood.”Â
“We all know the truth, whether you admit it or not.”Â
“What are you talking about? You all look so unhappy.” Asher walked over.Â
Jane immediately told him about Grandmother’s request. Asher shot Grace a cold look, making her shrink back and lower her head.Â
“Looks like Grandmother is getting senile these days,” Asher said, clearly annoyed with the whole scene. “So what now?” Jane’s irritation was obvious. “I really don’t want to take her around.”Â
Grace’s face turned pale, and she instinctively looked to Ava for help.Â
“If she wants to tag along, let her. She can’t pull anything under our noses anyway,” Ava said.Â
She wasn’t being kind–she just figured that someone this calculating was best kept in plain sight. If Grace really was here to catch a man, there was no telling what tricks she might pull.Â
