Enid Part I
January watched Gulliver as he made a series of phone calls while her mother and father moved their conversation to the back yard. She was feeling incredibly nervous.

Davis was a menace. He was screwing with her family in a way which was unfair and if she were being candid, downright creepy. Then, to make matters worse, based on what her mother was saying, there was someone in Gulliver’s inner circle who was a scheming, lying traitor.
A knock on the front door made Gulliver frown at her from where he was standing near the kitchen table. She walked to the door and noted Ernst’s mom standing there. Pulling the door open, she ushered her in.
“Hey Enid. What’s up?”
She looked around the table the room, “sorry to barge in on you but I wanted to talk to you.” She saw Gulliver, “and him
too.”
January waved her in, “come in, come in. Please. Gulliver this is Enid. Ernst’s mom. Enid, this is Kaylee’s dad Gulli 13:05

She ignored the sideways glare he shot her, but she wasn’t quite sure how to label him yet.
“Oh,” he tucked his phone into his pocket and extended his hand to her, “nice to meet you Enid.”
“My grandfather knows yours,” Enid was blunt. “I called him this morning. Ernst dropped the bomb on me last night how your brother hit on him and it left him feeling very confused. I was a single mother. Ernst was a brilliant child, incredibly gifted and I knew my mother’s family would use him in all the wrong ways. I worked hard to make sure he never got mixed up in the wrong kind of things and then his whore of an ex–wife was blowing a fucking cartel leader. I called my grandfather then and he was simply going to call in a favor with a friend,” she made a pointed look at Gulliver, “but then the feds came in, needed his testimony and he wanted to do the right thing. We went into witness protection, but my grandfather always knew where we were. He runs a small–time operation, nothing like the Raptis family but he’s the kind of guy who collects favors.”
“I know him.” Gulliver nodded.
“You do.” Enid nodded and then let out a puff of air. “Good. That makes what I’m going to say that much easier.”
“Go ahead.” Gulliver waved her on.

“My son and grandson are my world. They are everything to me. I would slit my own throat if it meant keeping them safe. I called my grandfather this morning and he assured me that there is nowhere safer than close to you but,” she shook her head, “he said your grandfather is slipping and he’s kept a couple of snakes too close. In exchange for you protecting us, my son and my grandson, I am offering you the names of the two people your grandfather foolishly has let close.”
“Jesus Christ,” Gulliver looked to the ceiling. “Done. You have our protection. Who is my grandfather stupidly sharing intel with?”
“His driver. He brings him everywhere with him. He’s been with him nearly twenty years, but I think everyone forgot he originally worked for Ziogas in their fishing fleet. The other is one of your grandfather’s bodyguards. He came with the driver. When Ziogas closed his fishing fleet and needed to relocate some of his men, your grandfather took a handful of them. Those two are taking kickbacks from the vovoi of Ziogas. He knows everywhere you go. Your grandfather,” Enid made an apologetic expression, “pardon my rudeness is loose with his lips around his inner circle. He’s been talking about you a lot.”
“I’m going to retire his fucking ass,” Gulliver growled furiously. “You’re certain of them?”

“Yes because Ziogas was apparently talking to my grandfather and his own lips are just as loose. He was bragging how he still had an insider. My grandfather is old. Really old and his own operations are pretty much shut down because he had no sons. He’s always hated Ziogas. Calls him an old blowhard but they all still meet for a drink on Friday nights and talk about the old days.”
“Thank you Enid.”
“Thank you, Mr. Raptis.”
“Call me Gulliver,” Gulliver suddenly grinned a toothy smile. “My brother got hit with cupid’s arrow pretty fucking hard the minute he saw Ernst. We’re family now Enid.”
“What’s your brother like?” she asked curiously. “Don’t give me the shit you would tell about him to talk him. I want the truth. I want the real unabridged version of him for my own peace of mind.”
“He’s an engineer in his own right. He’s not as smart as I am but he often outworks me on any given day. He’s a single father who puts his son first ahead of everything, including our families. His son is his everything. The minute he knew he was a dad, all the partying, screwing around and crazy activities stopped immediately. He was a bit of a playboy when he was younger, and one mistake while partying is what gave him Mitsos. He changed his life entirely in a moment.” 4/6

“He’s a family man?”
“Yes.” Gulliver was smiling widely as he dug his phone back out, “perfect example. Our sister watched Kaylee and Mitsos last night because Glenn needed to get a project completed and I was taking my wife,” he shot January a look which told her he was clarifying their relationship causing her to roll her eyes, “to dinner. These are texts I got from him last night.” Gulliver started reading.
January hoped he didn’t send anything about what he’d been doing.
“Nine–fifteen. Are you back at the hotel? How was Mitsos. Ten o’clock. Gulliver, you didn’t answer me. Did you check on the kids with Thisbe? She’s not answering either. Ten thirty. I’m going to kill the pair of you if you don’t tell me that my son is fine. Eleven o’clock. Thisbe answered and said the kids were both sleeping but that you didn’t go down and check on them. Was the opportunity to seduce your wife really so overwhelming you couldn’t take two minutes to go down a few flights of stairs and check on our babies. Midnight. I went into Thisbe’s hotel room. The kids stole her bed. She’s on the sofa. I went and got some extra blankets for her because she left them all for the kids. She’s a good sister. Also, our kids are cute.” Gulliver was snickering, “he then sent me six photos of them sleeping.” He held the photos up for her perusal and Enid smiled, “and then at twelve–forty–five he sent me another

message, clearly after he crawled into his own bed.” He was beaming now, “hey, you’ll need to be my best man when I marry Ernst. Maybe we can do a double wedding. Never mind. Scratch that. I don’t want to share my special day with anyone but Ernst.”
