Chapter 203 Family Dinner 

For once, Emily slept in at Carter Manor. It was the first time in forever that she didn’t open her eyes until ten o’clock, and she felt completely refreshed after getting such a good night’s sleep. 

Before she was fully awake, a small hand wrapped around her. “Aunt Emily, you’re finally up.” 

It was Molly. She’d come over around eight in the morning, but she hadn’t wanted to wake Emily when she saw she was still sleeping. 

Emily rolled onto her side and pulled the chubby little girl into her arms. “What brings you over, Molly?” 

Molly nuzzled against Emily’s neck. “Aunt Emily, I want you to help me draw fall. It’s homework from my teacher and tomorrow’s Monday already, but I haven’t finished it yet.” 

Emily was just about to say yes when her phone started ringing. She glanced down and saw it was an unfamiliar number. She hesitated for a second but answered anyway. 

Before she could say anything, Tommy’s excited voice came through. “Is this Ms. Carter?” 

Emily smiled when she heard him. “Tommy, it’s me.

Tommy sounded thrilled. “Can you come hang out with me, Ms. Carter?” 

Emily remembered she’d promised to help Molly with her homework and had to turn him down. “Tommy, I’m not really free today. How about next time?”

Emily laughed, “We’re probably having a family dinner tonight.”

Even through the phone, Tommy sounded startled by her attitude. His voice got small and nervous. “Oh, okay… okay

Before Emily could smooth things over, Molly hung up the phone. “Tommy always seems so quiet and well–behaved at school. I didn’t know he could be so clingy. He’s like a piece of gum stuck to your shoe.” 

Emily couldn’t help but laugh at what Molly said. She reached

Right at that moment, Tommy sneezed twice in a row. 

Just then, someone poked him in the back. “Well? Did you get her to say yes?”

Alexander was getting annoyed. He glanced over at Tommy and said, “So you just ate those cheese sticks for nothing, huh?” 

Tommy shot back at him, “Oh, you’re so great? Then why don’t you go do it yourself?” 

Alexander sat down next to him and reached over to lightly tug on Tommy’s ear. “You’re too young to be this mouthy. Already talking back to adults? Tell me, did your dad teach you that? Your dad’s a lawyer, so I guess that makes you a little

Tommy didn’t actually feel any pain, but he pretended it hurt anyway. He let out a couple of yelps and then stuck his tongue out. “Daddy didn’t teach me that. You did.” 

Alexander let go of Tommy’s ear and cupped the kid’s face in his hands instead. He put on an exaggerated stern expression. “I would never back down from a woman, but look at you. You’re scared of a little girl like Molly.” 

Tommy huffed indignantly, “Molly’s basically a tomboy. She doesn’t act like a girl at all!” 

Alexander let go of Tommy and leaned back against the couch. He closed his eyes and said in a lazy, casual tone, “Useless is useless. Why are you making excuses for yourself?” 

Tommy heard that and immediately burst into tears with a loud wail. 

Alexander heard the crying and quickly sat up straight. He tried to reach over and comfort Tommy, but his hands hovered awkwardly in the air. He didn’t know what to do with them. 

Tommy cried harder and louder. Alexander had no idea how to calm him down, so he raised his voice instead. “If you keep crying, I’m gonna have Molly come over here and deal with you.”

The crying stopped instantly. 

Tommy turned his head and glared at Alexander with pure fury in his eyes. “Hmph. I’m telling Daddy.” 

The moment he finished speaking, a warm and pleasant voice came from behind them. “What’s going on?” 

Tommy heard his father’s voice and immediately jumped up from the couch. He called out cheerfully, “Daddy! You’re home!” 

Kyrian Walls walked over to the couch and picked Tommy up. He looked down at his son and asked, “What happened? Did Alexander make you mad again?” 

Before Tommy could say anything, Alexander cut in first, “Your son takes after you. Totally shameless.” 

Kyrian didn’t get angry at all. He actually laughed quietly. He sat down on the couch with Tommy in his arms and turned to look at Alexander. “I think he actually takes after you.” 

Everything about the way Kyrian said it implied that Alexander was the shameless one.
