Chapter 204 Fake Photo

Alexander caught the meaning behind Kyrian’s words. He raised an eyebrow and said in a completely unbothered tone, I didn’t teach him to go making friends with girls.”

Kyrian played with Tommy while he responded to Alexander, So aside from that, you didn’t teach him anything else?”

As he finished speaking, Kyrian turned his head to look at Alexander. His gaze was calm and steady, and it made Alexander feel like he had nowhere to hide.

Alexander felt uncomfortable under that stare. His eyes shifted away as he said, You’re the lawyer. I’m not gonna sit here and split hairs with you over words.”

He stood up. I’m leaving. Don’t miss me too much, you two.”

Kyrian didn’t try to make Alexander stay. He just looked down at Tommy and said, How about Daddy takes you to the park to draw something? It’s fall, you know.”

Alexander turned around when he heard that. The park?he asked, confused.

Kyrian looked up at him and explained, It’s Tommy’s kindergarten homework. He has to turn it in tomorrow.”

the kindergarten teacher schedule a fall field trip for next week. I’ll go with Tommy.”

Kyrian knew exactly what Alexander was up to. He felt a bit frustrated and started to say, You—”

But Alexander cut him off, It’s decided then. You handle setting it up. Don’t worry, I’m not going to be a bad influence on your son.”

He was smirking the whole time he said it. Kyrian had the sudden urge to punch him.

Still, after years of friendship, Kyrian trusted Alexander’s character. The guy talked a big game, but behind all the talk, he’d never actually done anything wrong.

Alexander left Kyrian’s place and headed to the parking lot. Once he got in his car, he didn’t start the engine right away.

He pulled out his phone and opened his chat with Emily on WhatsApp. He typed and deleted message after message in their conversation.

In the end, he didn’t send anything at all.

Alexander’s eyes darted around as an idea formed in his mind. He searched online for a realistic photo of an injured finger and saved it. Then he opened Instagram and posted it to his

2/6 Story.

[Need advice ASAP. My finger’s messed up like this. What should I do?]

The photo showed a finger covered in blood with a deep, long gash visible.

Alexander set the Story so only Emily could see it as a Close

Friend.

After posting it, he locked his phone screen and tossed it onto the passenger seat. He turned on some music and started singing along and dancing to hide how anxious he really felt.

Several minutes passed before his phone screen finally lit up with an incoming message notification. He practically lunged for the passenger seat and grabbed his phone.

He unlocked the screen, but when he checked WhatsApp, there was only a system notification. It wasn’t a message from Emily asking if he was okay.

His smile froze on his face. He threw the phone down again.

But then he thought about it. What if Emily had responded on Instagram instead?

He grabbed his phone again and opened Instagram. Sure enough, there was a red 1showing he had a notification.

Alexander immediately clicked on it, but his smile froze all over again.

The notification read: [Your friend liked your Story.]

Alexander was furious. He deleted this guy immediately.

He sat there holding his phone and waiting and checking, but Emily never sent him a message or showed any concern at all.

Finally, Alexander gave up. He slammed his hand against the steering wheel and muttered bitterly, Emily, you’re so

heartless. Your heart must be made of ice.”

He was really angry. All he’d done was call her out for defending Ethan, and now she didn’t care whether he lived or

died.

If Ethan had posted that Story, Emily probably would have blown up his phone with calls by now.

But he was hurt and she didn’t say a single word to show she

cared.

At Carter Manor, Emily was doing Molly’s hair. She had just finished tying it up when she felt a sudden chill in the air.

back and forth. She was eating an egg tart and smiling sweetly, Aunt Emily, you’re so good at this! You do my hair just as

pretty as Mommy does.”

Emily touched the bun on top of Molly’s head and said without thinking, Sophie really loved this hairstyle too. I used to do her hair all the time”

Her voice trailed off and her mood dropped.

Molly saw the sadness on Aunt Emily’s face in the mirror. She quickly spoke up, Aunt Emily, you’re amazing. Sophie just doesn’t know how to appreciate you. She’s going to regret it someday.”

Emily forced a smile onto her face. It’s okay. I’ve made my peace with it.”

Some things just weren’t worth fighting for anymore. It was better to let them go.

Molly jumped down from the stool and gave Emily a hug. When you become someone else’s mommy someday, you’ll forget all about Sophie.”

Emily didn’t respond to that. She just stroked Molly’s head gently.

Some things were better left unsaid. 5/6

After they hugged for a bit, Emily finally said she needed to go change her clothes.

Molly said she’d wait in the room with her and didn’t leave.

While Emily was changing, her phone buzzed with a message. It was from Vanessa asking: [Want to go shopping this afternoon?]

Emily remembered she had promised to help Molly with her fall painting assignment, so she turned her down: [Maybe next time. I’m spending the afternoon with Molly.]

Vanessa replied: [Okay.]

Emily didn’t respond and opened Instagram.

She had a habit of checking Instagram when she was on her phone anyway.

So she clicked on it without really thinking about it.

After scrolling through a couple of stories, she saw one from Alexander.

Emily clicked on the photo. When she saw his injured finger, she frowned and then started typing a comment under his Story.
