Chapter 233 Silent ShowdownÂ
Lucky DrawÂ
Suddenly, Michael squinted his eyes, his voice dropping low as he challenged, “What? Did I say something off?”Â
Realizing he was losing the argument, Andrew instinctively grabbed a wine glass, ready to hurl it at Michael.Â
Just then, Alexander, who’d been silently guarding Emily, chimed in, “Hey, Mr. Robinson. You want to mess up Mr. Pitts‘ birthday bash?”Â
Andrew wasn’t scared of Michael or Alexander. But this was Harvey’s birthday party.Â
Any ruckus here would only smear their reputations.Â
After a moment’s thought, he slowly put the raised wine glass down, fuming as he plopped back into his seat, seething withÂ
annoyance.Â
Alexander shifted his gaze to Ethan, and they locked eyes acrossÂ
the table.Â
It was a silent showdown, no words needed.Â
At this table, two opposing groups sat. Beneath the seemingly calm surface, tensions were brewing.Â
Nancy, sitting next–to Ethan, couldn’t help but keep stealing glances at Alexander. It was obvious he cared deeply about Emily and was deliberately protecting her.Â

kid?Â
She reckoned he was just trying to get her attention by being extra nice to Emily.Â
Yeah, that has to be it.Â
Just then, Harvey strolled over, a glass of wine in hand.Â
He came to toast everyone at the table, clinking glasses and spouting some diplomatic small talk, telling everyone to have a good time.Â
When it was time to raise their glasses in unison, Ethan noticed Nancy holding a wine glass.Â
He quickly placed his hand on hers and murmured, “Nancy, you’ve got that lab research tomorrow. No drinking today.”Â
When she’d toasted with Hugh earlier, she’d had a juice.Â
Nancy looked a tad embarrassed. “Ethan, it’s Mr. Pitts‘ birthday party. It’d be rude not to have a little sip.”Â
Ethan took the glass from her and said to Harvey, “Mr. Pitts, I’ll take this one for Nancy.”Â
And with that, he downed the wine in one go.Â
Harvey, seeing how attentive Ethan was to Nancy, couldn’t help but glance at Emily.Â
He was a bit confused. Which one was really Ethan’s wife? 17:04Â

Ethan had come in with Emily, but Emily had said she was Ethan’s secretary.Â
Now, seeing Ethan doting on Nancy, Harvey was convinced Nancy was Ethan’s wife.Â
Harvey then smiled at Nancy, “It’s all good, sweetie. Drink as you please.”Â
“Thanks, Mr. Pitts.” Nancy flashed a sweet smile.Â
Harvey nodded and turned to Hugh. “Ethan, who’s this good–looking young man?”Â
Harvey had spotted Hugh at the entrance.Â
Though he didn’t know him, he could tell Hugh was someone significant.Â
After all, those who hung out with Ethan were no ordinary folks.Â
Before Ethan could answer, Michael let out a scoff. “Mr. Pitts, he’s nobody special. Don’t sweat it.”Â
Ethan quickly jumped in to explain, “Mr. Pitts, this is Hugh Thompson. He’s in business with Andrew and me.”Â
Harvey shifted his gaze from Michael to Hugh, his eyes full of admiration. “I see. A rising star! Impressive for someone so young.”Â
Standing up, Hugh shook Harvey’s hail and modestly said,Â
Thanks for the kind words, Mr. Pitts.”Â

Harvey smiled and greeted everyone before moving on to the next table.Â
All this commotion was just par for the course among these wealthy men. But Emily wasn’t interested.Â
She sat quietly, topping up her glass of red wine every now and then.Â
Sitting beside her, Alexander could tell she was in a foul mood. It pained him, yet he was at a loss as to how to comfort her.Â
Under the table, he reached for her cold little hand and said, “Knock it off with the drinking, or you’ll get plastered.”Â
But Emily pried his fingers loose one by one. Then she gave him a faint smile and replied, “It’s okay.”Â
She had a decent tolerance for alcohol. A bit of wine wouldn’t do much to her.Â
It was just that being in this environment really got on herÂ
nerves.Â
Across the table, Ethan noticed Emily guzzling down the wine. His brows knitted in concern.Â
Just as he was about to stop her, Nancy suddenly clung to his arm and whispered, “Ethan, I need to hit the restroom.”Â
Hearing this, Ethan shifted his gaze from Emily and said, “Alright, let’s go. I’ll accompany you.”Â

He stuck to Nancy like glue, with his hand outstretched as if he was afraid she might trip.Â
With a slight tilt of her head, Emily caught sight of Ethan and Nancy leaving.Â
They were inseparable, always together.Â
What a bitterly ironic sight.Â
After they left, a flurry of complex emotions flashed across Emily’s face.Â
Across the table, Andrew noticed her dejection. A strange sense of satisfaction welled up inside him.Â
