Imelda’s face was dark and menacing as she slammed her cane down on the floor, radiating an intimidating authority.

She snapped, Those old farts think they can swoop in and carve up the Gibson Group just because my grandson’s sick? Like hell they can.

Tell them Kelvin is fine. The surgery was a success.”

Peter looked worried. Mrs. Gibson, but”

She cut him off. If anything goes wrong, I’ll handle it myself.

Even if Kelvin doesn’t make it, as long as I’m still breathing, the Gibson Group will never fall into their hands!”

Yes, I get it, Mrs. Gibson!Peter said. Without hesitation, he rushed off to block any word about Kelvin’s critical condition from getting out.

Meanwhile, at the Royal Court Hotel, a few assassins were still on the run, stirring up trouble.

Helene had ducked into the kitchen, shaking like a leaf. She was seriously regretting pulling strings to get the ticket to join the party.

She hadn’t even managed to say a word to Kelvin before all hell broke loose. She almost lost her life right there.

This is all Edwina’s fault. That jinx!Helene thought bitterly.

When it finally went quiet outside, she peeked out, then slipped out of the kitchen, desperate to get out of there.

But the next second, a strong hand clamped down on the back of her neck, and a knife was pressed against

her throat.

Helene’s eyes filled with tears as she begged, Please, don’t kill me.

I have a lot of money. I’m the daughter of the Simmons family, you know, the famous, supersecretive one from Grindel City. Do you know who I am?”

The assassin, already injured and annoyed by her babbling, snapped, Shut the hell up!”

Outside the door, someone searching hurriedly for a person stopped in their tracks at the mention of Simmons family.

Glenn thought, The Simmons family’s daughter?

Wait, that’s not Edwina. That’s Helene, the other Simmons girl.

Glenn peeked through the crack in the door. Helene looked every bit the rich girl, so he felt that she was probably telling the truth.

Since she was Edwina’s sister and he hadn’t found Edwina yet, Glenn felt that saving her might help him build some ties with the Simmons family.

Thinking fast, Glenn charged in while the assassin was distracted and landed a solid kick to his knee. The guy dropped his knife and crumpled to his knees.

Helene darted behind Glenn, sobbing and shrieking.

Help me!she cried, grabbing onto Glenn’s jacket like her life depended on it.

Glenn almost lost his balance from her tugging. He shot her a quick look out of the corner of his eye and thought, Helene and Edwina are like night and day.

I wonder how Edwina would react if she ran into these assassins. Would she be crying and hiding in my arms

too?‘

Just picturing Edwina in tears didn’t bother Glenn at all. In fact, he found it kind of cute.

He nudged Helene away, his voice gentle. Miss Simmons, do you have any idea where your sister Edwina is?”

Helene’s heart skipped a beat. She’d thought she was getting her damselindistress moment, but now Edwina’s name popped up again.

Are you after Edwina too?she blurted out.

Glenn just nodded, not even trying to hide it.

Helene pressed her nails into her palm, but outwardly she wore a perfectly practiced facade, all sweetness and innocence.

After twenty years of pretending in the Simmons family, playing the good girl was second nature to her.

Helene replied, I haven’t seen her. Maybe she’s scared too and just hiding somewhere.

Let me help you look for her.”

Glenn nodded. No problem.”

They searched all the way to the hotel entrance, but there was still no sign of Edwina. However, they overheard a group of people gossiping nearby.

Seriously? Is that even true? She’s that badass?one of them asked.

No joke! I saw that she sent three guys flying with a single kick. It’s the girl in the blue and white dress!another chimed in.

Too bad the security cameras got trashed, or you’d have seen it for yourselves. That girl was a total badass. Pretty sure she came with Kelvin, someone else added.

A smirk tugged at Glenn’s lips.

Guess all that running around trying to play the knight in shining armor was a waste of time. Honestly, if we ever threw down, I’d probably get my ass handed to me, he thought.

Glenn’s interest in Edwina was only getting stronger.

Glenn turned to Helene beside him. With the sunlight hitting her face, he did a doubletake.

Helene and Edwina are sisters? They don’t look anything alike,Glenn thought.

But what really got him was that Helene’s face looked oddly familiar. He was sure he’d seen it somewhere before, but he just couldn’t remember where.

See you around, Miss Simmons. Maybe fate will throw us together again,Glenn said.

Helene was still rattled. She couldn’t care less about Glenn and believed that he was just another fool who’d fallen for Edwina’s charms.

Helene thought, I don’t even know him. He is just another goodlooking nobody in Grindel City. Not worth a second thought.’

Kelvin’s surgery had been going on for two hours, but not a single word came out. Nobody knew what was happening.

Edwina’s hands were sweaty, and the blood on her clothes had already crusted over, making her look downright scary.

The emergency room doors flew open and a nurse came running out. The bullet’s still inside, he’s losing too

much blood! We need a transfusion now!”

Imelda looked like she’d been struck by lightning. She swayed, her voice shaking. Kelvin’s blood type is B. If you don’t have enough, take my blood. Take as much as you need!”

Even someone as tough as Imelda was about to lose it.

The nurse doublechecked the blood type and said, Type B blood, there’s plenty in the blood bank. Prep extra units now.

He’s got massive bleeding close to the heart. If we don’t keep the blood flowing, he’ll be gone in seconds!”

The transfusion had already started.

The doctor finally stepped out, sweat pouring down his face and his gloves still smeared with blood. This was hands down the toughest surgery he’d ever done.

Even though the operation wasn’t over yet, he knew that if they couldn’t get the bullet out, Kelvin wouldn’t

make it.

Whenever the blood stopped, that would be the end for Kelvin.

At that moment, they were just buying him time with money. Kelvin was a patient who couldn’t leave the operating table.

Imelda asked, Just tell me, what are the chances you can get that bullet out?”

None, the doctor said, not even trying to sugarcoat it.

Imelda was so pissed she looked ready to smack him. Say that again! Aren’t you supposed to be the expert? What the hell did I hire you for?”

The doctor just shook his head, looking crushed. I’m telling you, it’s impossible. There’s no way we can get it

out.”

Edwina had finally pulled herself together. She stood up, her voice steady but urgent. Mrs. Gibson, please, let me try.”

The doctor waved his hands, flustered. You? You can’t just walk into the OR! That’s not how this works”

Imelda cut him off, her tone unyielding. Let her in.

She saved my life before. I trust her. If anyone can save Kelvin, it’s her.

If she fails, I’ll bear the responsibility!”

Edwina scrubbed up in a flash, threw on a sterile gown, and headed straight into the OR.

Kelvin’s condition was way worse than Edwina had imagined. The bullet was stuck in such a dangerous spot.

If they tried to remove it manually, it would almost certainly damage his organs, and then he wouldn’t stand a chance.

Edwina sized up the situation, and the first thing that came to her mind was the ECD.

The ECD was a stateoftheart surgical cutter, famous for its worldclass precision.

It could remove or separate any targeted object with a margin of error so small it was basically nonexistent, making it absolutely perfect for Kelvin’s case.

But there were only two ECDs in the entire world.

Money wasn’t an issue. The Gibson family would pay whatever it took to save Kelvin. The real problem was where they could find one.

Edwina stepped out of the room and immediately called Kurt

Level A situation. Track down the ECD surgical cutter, whatever it takes, I want it, and I want it now!Edwina demanded, her tone sharp and relentless.
