Chapter 63Â
When Edwina apologized, Kelvin, who’d been wrapped up in her gentle presence, was suddenly pulled back to reality.Â
Kelvin glanced at her and couldn’t help but smile.Â
He purposely shifted his arm, trying to grab the water cup. The movement tugged at his wound, sending a dull ache through him, and he sucked in a breath through his teeth.Â
Edwina, about to walk away, paused. “You shouldn’t move your arm. If you need anything, just call the nurse.”Â
“The nurses are here to change my bandages and take care of my medical needs, not to deal with these everyday things,” Kelvin said.Â
Edwina had to admit that he had a point. She brought the cup to his lips and slowly tilted it, letting the gentle stream of water slide down his throat. Kelvin thought it tasted even sweeter than usual.Â
Edwina suggested, “I could find you a personal aide to help out with your daily routines.”Â
“No, I’m just not comfortable with strangers looking after me,” Kelvin replied.Â
“What about Peter?” Edwina asked.Â
“He’s still got things to take care of at the office,” Kelvin replied.Â
Edwina lowered her lashes, thinking, ‘He’s just impossible. Theres always something he doesn’t like.‘Â
“Edwina, if I’m not mistaken, you’re my secretary and my personal of me,” Kelvin said.Â
“Me?” Edwina stared at him.Â
Sistant. Now that I’m injured, I’ll need you to take careÂ
Seeing Edwina hesitate, Kelvin quickly said, “It’s fine. If you’re too busy, I’ll be fine on my own. It’s just a cup, I can do it myself…”Â
With that, he stubbornly reached for the cup again.Â
Edwina closed her eyes briefly and said in a steady voice, “Don’t move around. I’ll take care of you. I’ll be just outside, so if you need anything, just call me.”Â
Kelvin had finally managed to come up with a reason to keep Edwina close, so there was no way he’d let her slip out of theÂ
room.Â
He said, “I’m still not fully recovered, and my voice isn’t strong. Just stay here with me, so you can hear me if I need anything.”Â
Edwina looked down at him, thinking, ‘When did he get so weakÂ
He’d gotten hurt saving her, and the Gibson Group was already dealing with the fallout.Â
If Kelvin didn’t get back on his feet soon, there’d be no one to run the show, and things would only spiral further out of control.Â
After thinking it through from every angle, Edwina figured she’d better stay.Â
The sunset spilled through the floor–to–ceiling windows, lighting up Edwina’s face.Â
She was totally absorbed in her laptop all afternoon, only stopping occasionally to help Kelvin with a drink or get him to theÂ

bathroom. Other than that, they barely spoke a word to each other.Â
Kelvin tried a few times to strike up a conversation, but every attempt fell flat.Â

For the first time, Kelvin actually felt a bit defeated. ‘Am I really appealing? She’d rather stare at her screen than even look at me, he wondered.Â
That evening, Peter showed up with some special meals, including one made just for Edwina.Â
Edwina popped open the lid, and a wave of delicious aroma hit her. It was from Fusion House, her absolute favorite spot.Â
The line there was always insane. No matter how much money one had, they couldn’t skip it. Edwina didn’t expect to have food from that place in Kelvin’s hospital room.Â
Kelvin introduced the meal and said, “Go ahead, try it. See if it’s still as good as before. I wonder if takeout messes with the flavor.”Â
Edwina picked up her fork, her eyes widening in surprise. “How you know I love these dishes?Â
“Did you do some digging on me or something?”Â
Kelvin just stared at her, lost for words.Â
He couldn’t help but smile, a soft, indulgent look in his eyes. “Why do you always think I’m snooping around on you? It’s not that deep. I just texted Darius.”Â
Edwina paused, her fingers hovering over her fork. ‘Wait, he actually has Darius’s contact? Does he really take this crazy marriage arrangement seriously?‘Â
“Don’t overthink it. Just eat. A few dishes from Fusion House aren’t enough to make you pledge yourself to me,” Kelvin teased.Â
It was like he had a sixth sense for what was on her mind.Â
Edwina noticed Kelvin barely touched any of the food, he only sipped some chicken soup. She thought, ‘So, he really ordered all this just for me.Â
‘Is he trying to thank me for taking care of him?‘Â
She wasn’t used to this kind of unexpected attention, and it threw her off a bit.Â
Days with Edwina seemed to fly by for Kelvin. After both Imelda and Kelvin finished their full medical check–ups, they were finally cleared to leave the hospital.Â
Edwina promised Kelvin she’d drive them both back to the Gibson family.Â
When Imelda found out the night before that Edwina would be the practically bouncing with excitement.Â
taking her back to the Gibson family, she wasÂ
She was already sitting up in her hospital bed at four in the morning, asking the aide to help her freshen up and get dressed.Â
Imelda sat in front of the mirror, slipping into a flowy maroon dress. Her curly, silver hair was neatly pinned up, and her face was beaming with joy.Â
“Look at me. How do I look? Edwina’s so gorgeous. I can’t let myself look shabby next to her,” Imelda said.Â
The aide nodded. She’d checked Imelda over so many times. There wasn’t a single stray thread or hair left to fix.Â
When Imelda was first hospitalized, it caused a huge stir in Grindel City. Now that she was getting discharged, it was just asÂ

much of a big deal.Â
People hoping to cozy up to the Gibson family had been lining up since early morning, all trying to get on their good side.Â
The side straightened Imelda’s collar and said, “Mrs. Gibson, the Moore family from Grindel City wants to come visit you. “They even brought supplements that are supposedly the best thing for your health, and money can’t buy it.”Â
Imelda huffed. “Nope, send them away. Best for my health? Seriously, nothing beats the recipes Edwina gave me.Â
“They’re tasty and good for me. These past couple weeks, I’ve felt better than ever.”Â
Less than five minutes later, someone else came in to report, “Mrs. Gibson, the CEO of Phosphorus Group from the south side of the city is here.Â
“He says he’s got a few doctors who just got back from top–notch training overseas, and they can come to the Gibson family to help you recover.”Â
Imelda said, “No, send him away. What doctor could ever compare to Edwina? She saved my life and my grandson’s, too. she’s the true hero of our family.Â
“Honestly, I sometimes think Kelvin isn’t even worthy of her, but I gotta keep the good stuff in the family.”Â
The aide chimed in, “You’re absolutely right. Mr. Gibson took a bullet for Edwina, and she saved his life.Â
“They’re obviously meant to be together. Once the engagement with the Simmons family is off, they can finally make it official.”Â
“Wait, the engagement isn’t canceled yet?” Imelda’s eyes widened “Didn’t Kelvin go to the Simmons family to break it off last time? Why hasn’t it been called off yet?”Â
Imelda was so furious she almost jumped out of her wheelchair. I just knew that kid couldn’t be trusted!”Â
Before Imelda could finish her rant, the hospital room door was suddenly thrown open, cutting her off.Â
“Imelda!” Helene sang out sweetly as she came in, loaded down with bags.Â
“Imelda, you’re finally getting discharged. I’m here to take you home,” she said, her smile warm and gracious.Â
Helene had always been able to come and go from the Imelda’s Hospital room as she pleased, so the aide on duty didn’t stopÂ
her.Â
“Helene, you’re here,” Imelda said, her tone noticeably less enthusiastic than before.Â
Helene stepped forward and took hold of the wheelchair handles from behind. “Imelda, you must be so bored stuck in here, right?Â
“It’s still early, and the Gibson family’s car hasn’t arrived yet. How about I take you for a spin around the courtyard?”Â
Helene was clever. She knew the media would be swarming to cover Imelda’s big exit.Â
If she got caught in the same shot as Imelda, everyone would start seeing her as Kelvin’s future wife for sure.Â
