Chapter 247 Be Your Haven 

Noticing her mind drifting, Alexander let out a soft chuckle. “Why can’t I be your haven?” he murmured, so softly that Emily missed it. 

But it didn’t matter to him; he was already set on fulfilling her wishes in his heart. 

The thought brought a smile to his face. 

Alexander lowered his head and began jotting down his wishes on paper. 

When Emily tried to peek, he quickly covered it. “You can’t peek at others‘ wishes. The haven won’t make them come true if you do,” he kidded. 

Emily laughed and shrugged. “Who’d have thought a grown–up like you could be so childish!” 

“Mind your own business.” Alexander pouted. 

Emily moved her paper further away. “Well, I’m not showing you, either.” 

Alexander glanced at her, but she shifted to block his view.

After folding the paper and putting it into a wish balloon, he looked up to see Emily finishing her writing. 

“All done,” she said, meeting his eyes. 

“Let’s go release them together,” Alexander said with a smile.

They headed to the riverside with their balloons. 

They looped the strings of the wishing balloons around a custom–made little boat and set it afloat. The boat then 

embarked on a lazy journey, meandering downstream with the current of the brook. 

Emily clasped her hands under her chin and silently wished, “I hope all my wishes come true.” 

Alexander was lost in thought, looking at her earnest face, but quickly snapped out of it and texted his assistant: [Intercept my girl’s wish balloon.] 

After getting an “OK” reply, he put his phone away.

When Emily opened her eyes after praying, she asked, “Where 

to next?” 

Just as Alexander was about to answer, he spotted Ethan and Nancy entering the store through the low doorway.

Confused by his serious look, Emily asked, “What’s up?” 

As Alexander realized she hadn’t noticed Ethan and Nancy, a 

mischievous idea hit Alexander. 

He took her hand and placed it on his chest, feigning pain. “Honey, check. I’ve got chest pain,” he said. 

Alexander put on such a believable act that Emily was caught off guard and failed to notice he was pretending. 

Emily stepped forward to support him and reached inside his shirt. 

As a doctor, she didn’t think about gender at that moment. 

Pressing on his chest, she frowned. “Does it hurt here?” 

“Yes,” Alexander replied, still looking pained.

She thought he was faking illness to get her attention when they came in. 

Even as these thoughts swirled in her mind, Nancy refrained from striking up a conversation with Alexander. Instead, she made her way over to the display of wishing balloons, her curiosity piqued.

Ethan trailed behind her, his attention clearly divided. Every so often, his gaze would wander over to where Emily and Alexander were standing.

Not wanting to engage in a pointless argument, Emily turned on her heel and started to make her exit. 

That was when she spotted Ethan and Nancy. 

Nancy was gazing at the wishing balloons with wonder in her eyes, and Ethan was looking at her, a soft smile on his face.

The vendor’s eyes brightened. “You got it! I’ll go fetch the largest ones right away.” 

Hearing Ethan’s words, Emily felt a twinge in her heart, but it wasn’t as sharp as she’d expected. 

However, the thought of Sophia still sent a pang through her. 

It was so late, yet Ethan had taken her to meet people who weren’t even related to her. 

And now, here he was, out having a good time with Nancy.
