Chapter 248 Emily’s Wish
Curiosity got the better of Ethan. “I just wanna take a look,” he said.
Covering the note with her hand, Nancy pretended to pout, feigning anger. “Ethan, if you keep this up, I’ll be mad.”
Sensing her irritation, Ethan backed down quickly, surrendering. “Fine, fine–have it your way.”
Seeing him give in, Nancy smiled, patting his arm, “Good boy. Don’t be upset, okay?”
“I’m not that petty,” Ethan said.
Sticking out her tongue playfully, Nancy turned back to her note. “Glad you’re not mad. I’ll keep writing my wish then.”
Alexander lingered at the stall for a moment, waiting until Emily wandered off before following her.
As Nancy watched him hurry after Emily, Nancy’s smile widened–she knew he’d wanted to linger, to steal more glances at her.
The thought made her grin, unable to hide her delight.
As he walked, Alexander heard Nancy’s voice call outo Ethan2

“Ethan, I finished my wish! What about you? Aren’t you gonna write one?”
“Nah, I don’t have any special wishes,” Ethan replied.
It wasn’t that he had no wishes–he just never believed writing them down would make them come true.
Alexander tuned out the rest of their conversation, catching up to Emily only to find her eerily calm.
He’d expected her to burst into tears at the sight of Ethan and Nancy together, yet she seemed completely unaffected- genuinely unconcerned.
His gaze cut through her like a sharp knife, searching for any hint of vulnerability.
But she remained steady, no flicker of emotion crossing her
face.
Alexander wanted to ask if Emily was upset, yet feared bringing up Ethan would only hurt her more.
Instead of pressing, he offered gently, “There’s more of the night market up ahead. Wanna check it out with me?”
Emily nodded, agreeing quietly, “Sure.”

Elysian Ancient Town was even livelier at night than during the day–past midnight, crowds still streamed through the streets.
Up ahead, acrobats performed tricks under the lantern light, drawing a circle of onlookers.
Stopping to watch, Emily was captivated by the show. Meanwhile, Alexander slipped his phone out, texting his assistant quietly: [Intercept one more balloon–picture attached.]
The photo was of Nancy’s wish balloon–he was dying to know what she’d written.
Entranced by the acrobats, Emily watched intently.
Soon, Alexander’s phone buzzed with a reply–his assistant had sent two photos, one of Emily’s wish and one of Nancy’s.
He opened Nancy’s first. Scrawled on the note: [I hope every man in the world falls for me, would die for me, and showers me with money.]
A scoff escaped him, a mutter under his breath. “Even thicker–skinned than I am.”
Hearing his mumble, Emily turned to him, confused. “What’s
wrong?”

Afraid of letting slip he’d intercepted her balloon, Alexander shook his head, saying nothing.
Emily didn’t press, turning back to the performance.
Staring at the other photo–Emily’s wish–he hesitated, unable to bring himself to open it.
He feared what he’d find there, dreading her true thoughts.
Deep down, she still couldn’t let go of Ethan, right? Her wish must be about reconciling with him.
Taking a few deep breaths, Alexander gritted his teeth and opened it.
Fearing Emily might see, he tapped her shoulder lightly. “I’m gonna run to the restroom. Don’t wander off–call me if you need anything.”
Too absorbed in the acrobatics to notice his nervousness, Emily nodded without hesitation. “Okay.”
Ducking into the shade of a tree, Alexander zoomed in on the photo, reading Emily’s wish line by line.

[I hope I meet a good man someday.]
A smile appeared on his face, spreading wider by the second.
For the first wish–he’d make sure her family got regular checkups, keeping them healthy.
The second–he could help her behind the scenes, boosting her
career.
And the third—meeting a good man?
Wasn’t he that man?
The question lingered: how could he make Emily believe Alexander was the one for her?
As he was lost in thought for a long while, his eyes suddenly fell on a fortune teller sitting nearby.
An idea clicked in Alexander’s mind instantly.
Glancing back at Emily, who was still glued to the acrobat show in the crowd, he walked over to the fortune teller.
After a brief conversation, he transferred 2000 dollars to the
man.

By then, the acrobatics show had ended. Emily turned around, scanning the crowd for Alexander–no sign of him.
Just as she grew confused, a hand tapped her shoulder. “Babe, looking for me?”
Turning around, she saw Alexander open his palm–a necklace dropped into his hand.
He tilted his head, smiling brightly, his gaze warm and gentle.
His smile made her heart skip a beat, but she looked away quickly, her voice cool. “It’s too late. Let’s go back.”
Seeing her try to leave, Alexander grabbed her wrist gently. “Come on, stay a little longer–wander with me.”
Glancing down at his hand around her wrist, Emily said, “Let go of me first.”
“Only if you promise to stay with me a bit longer.”
Emily sighed softly, agreeing, “Fine.”
Releasing her wrist, he pressed the necklace into her hand
instead. “Saw this at a stall earlier–it’s not worth much. Just keep it, wear it for fun.”
Holding the necklace, Emily knew it was far from cheap–even 6/7

though she didn’t buy luxury jewelry often, she could tell its quality.
Feeling unworthy of such a gift, she held it out to him. “Alexander, I can buy my own jewelry. You don’t have to give me this–but I appreciate the thought.”
Seeing her refuse, he took the necklace back, his eyes darkening.
“If you don’t want it, I’ll just throw it away.”
Before Emily could stop him, he tossed it aside forcefully.
Upon witnessing the situation, Emily shot Alexander an irate look and snapped, “Seriously…”
