Chapter 262 I Don’t Have a Mom 

Emily picked up on Alexander’s earnest desire to prove himself. 

Uncertain how to respond, she fell silent. 

Alexander, understanding her wariness and her current illness, didn’t press the issue. 

Instead, he focused on taking care of her. 

After feeding her, he poured her a steaming cup of water and watched as she sipped it. 

However, the fever returned. 

Alexander quickly fetched a dose of fever–reducing medicine and helped Emily take it. Soon, she was fast asleep. 

Throughout the night, Alexander remained by her side. 

He gently wiped the sweat from her brow, adjusted the covers, and made sure she was as comfortable as possible. 

As dawn began to break, Alexander finally succumbed to 

exhaustion. 

He took Emily’s hand in his and laid his head on the edge of the bed. At over six feet tall, the position was far from comfortable, but sleep claimed him quickly.

When Emily tried to move her hand, Alexander didn’t wake up. Instead, he turned his face in a different direction, getting even closer to her. So close that she only had to tilt her head slightly 

to touch his face. 

Emily looked down at Alexander’s features. He had a straight nose, well–defined features, thick eyelashes, and beautifully shaped eyebrows. 

Such a face must have charmed countless young girls. 

Yet, the notorious lady’s man was sitting right beside her 

hospital bed at this moment, standing guard and taking care of 

her. 

How could Emily not have questions in her heart? 

A man like Alexander might lack many things, but women were definitely not one of them. 

However, what he had done for her was undeniably real.

Just then, the screen of the phone on the bedside table flashed. 

Emily reached for it and saw a message from Ethan: [Come to, the hospital to look after Sophie today. I’ve got a meeting at the office.] 

She stared at the message for a long time. 

Sophia was sick, but did she really need Emily? Emily decided not to reply. 

After silencing her phone, she tossed it back onto the bedside table nonchalantly. 

Alexander was still sleeping soundly, and Emily didn’t want to wake him. So, she let him hold her hand.

The sound of the door opening roused Alexander, and he opened his bloodshot eyes.

Chloe was holding a food container. After placing it on the bedside table, she turned to Alexander and said, “You had a rough night last night.” 

With a grin, Alexander said, “Come on, Chloe. Taking care of Emily is only natural for me. Besides, since you’ve given me this chance, I’d be a fool not to take it.” 

Chloe glanced at Alexander and then at Emily. 

As an outsider, she could easily sense the relationship between 

them. 

Alexander was clearly head–over–heels for Emily, but it wasn’t certain if Emily felt the same way

Chloe understood what Alexander meant and just gave a faint smile. Instead of responding directly, she changed the subject. “Mr. Lessing, both Emily’s brother and I just want what’s best for Emily.” 

Alexander knew exactly what she was getting at and replied straightforwardly, “Don’t worry, Chloe. I’ll definitely take good care of Emily.” 

Without other words, Chloe just turned to look at Emily, who was lying quietly on the bed, wearing a rather complicated expression. 

Chloe walked over, gently felt Emily’s forehead, and then whispered, “I’ll come to keep you company later tonight, okay?” 

Emily nodded. “Sure.”
