none of whom had gone to sleep yet-Â
Edwin, sitting beside Linden, jumped up. “Oh sh*t–Captain, they’re fighting! It’s serious!”Â
Elmer looked downright excited. It was his first time seeing girls fight, and honestly, it was thrilling. He couldn’t resist inching closer to listen.Â
Linden immediately barked, “Elmer! Don’t go over ther!”Â
Elmer grinned, showing all his white teeth. “I’ll just listen from afar, Captain. I won’t interrupt.”Â
Linden was about to say more when the flap of the girls tent flew open, and Ava and Malory stepped out.Â
Malory was still in thin sleepwear and hadn’t had time to put on her coat. The moment she saw Linden, she didn’t bother caring about her appearance anymore and stomped straight toward him. “Captain, Holly’s lost her mind! She came at me out of nowhere–look! She scratched my face open!”Â
She tilted her head up and pointed at her left cheek. “See for yourself, it’s still bleeding! I’m not living with that woman again! Kick her out–I don’t want her in our tent!”Â
Ava came out with a jacket and handed it to her. Malory pulled it tight around herself, still fuming. “Captain, you have to stand up for me!”Â
Linden took a closer look. Sure enough, claw marks streaked across her face, one of them oozing blood–no wonder the commotion inside had been so loud.Â
“At least tell me why the two of you ended up fighting,” Linden demanded.Â
“How would I know what set her off?” Malory snapped. “I was about to sleep. I was just talking with Ava when she suddenly blew up like she swallowed a stick of dynamite. She jumped me and slapped me! If Ava hadn’t grabbed her, who knows how long she would’ve kept hitting me!”Â
At that, she jabbed a finger toward Ava. “Ask her if you don’t believe me! Wasn’t it Holly picking a fight with me for no reason?”Â
Linden turned to Ava. “You tell me too.”Â
Ava frowned. “Captain Oestergaard, it really was like Malory said. We were talking, and she suddenly got mad. She accused us of bullying her. You saw what happened at dinner, right? She picked at me first. And she didn’t lift a finger today–what’s wrong with asking her to wash dishes? Is washing a few dishes bullying now?”Â
“I’m not living with Holly anymore!” Malory added loudly. “She’s not welcome in our tent! Ava and I were the ones who set it up! Some nerve she has to complain about us disturbing her! Is it even late yet? If she’s that picky, let her sleep alone!”Â
Linden’s head throbbed. “Get Holly out here and hear her side too.”Â
“Fine! Bring her out! I’m not scared of her!”Â
Holly still hadn’t appeared–she was crying inside the tent.Â
Linden cleared his throat. “Victor, go call her out.”Â

Then he glanced at the girls. “It’s… suitable to enter, right?”Â
Malory rolled her eyes. “Yes. She’s clothed, not naked.”Â
Victor pointed at himself. “Me?”Â

Linden nodded. “Yes. You carried her backpack all day–you should be closer to her than the rest of us.Â
Dario snorted and looked over at Edwin. Both of them instantly remembered that sickly sweet “Victor” from earlier.Â
Victor opened his mouth, completely betrayed by fate. Why me? I just carried her bag–how does that make us close?Â
But he had no choice. He walked to the tent entrance and, without daring to go inside, called out, “H–Holly? Captain wants you to come out.”Â
No response.Â
He repeated himself, and a pillow flew out, smacking him straight in the chest. Victor caught it, exasperated, and turned to Linden. “Captain! She won’t come out!”Â
Malory marched over at once, glaring into the tent. “Holly, get out here! You didn’t pitch this tent–Ava and I did! Get out! I’m not letting you stay! If you won’t come out, I’ll drag you out! Let’s see who ends up embarrassed!”Â
Holly finally got up. When she stepped outside, her eyes were red and swollen, and a bright handprint glowed across her cheek.Â
“Captain Oestergaard, Malory and Ava ganged up on me!” she bawled. “You have to stand up for me…”Â
Watching her twist the truth, Malory rolled up her sleeves, ready to charge at her again.Â
Ava grabbed her wrist immediately. “We have Captain Oestergaard here. Trust him to handle this fairly. If you rush in again, even when you’re right, you’ll look wrong.”Â
