I hate the feeling that everyone is currently against Lottie, or having any kind of bad thoughts against her, and while I know it’s stupid given the situation, I just can’t help it. There is already a protective streak inside me when it comes to Lottie and, regardless of the 

situation, it’s hard to switch off. 

“Lottie, would you like to tell your grandparents and uncles what you have done, or even better why?” Nick asks her, although it’s more of a command than a question. Lottie’s face slightly pales while everyone in the room just looks confused, and I get it. 

While Lottie is a typical 16–year–old girl with hair, makeup and talks about finding mates being a part of her daily life, from what I’ve been told and come to learn myself since I’ve been here, it doesn’t appear that Lottie has caused a lot of trouble in her life. She seems to be a pretty well–behaved girl, so I can only imagine that everyone is a bit confused right now. 

I grab my mate’s attention and lean into him, keeping my voice fairly low. “Maybe we should do this in private, Nick?” Since I’ve come here, I’ve been taught a lot about the rules and dos and donts of a Luna and while it’s a common curiosity not to go against your Alpha or call him out in any way in public, this isn’t public, this is a personal family matter and more than that it personally involves me, so I believe that my opinion and thoughts should be welcomed right now, and if they’re not, well, then it’s tough! 

He looks at me for a moment before shaking his head and turning his attention back to the table where Lottie, Shane, Robbie and their parents are sitting looking confused. Well, Robbie doesn’t look confused, more pissed, but he already knows what’s happened, so I’m 

not surprised. 

“No, sweetheart. If Lottie believes that she is old enough to go around doing what she did, then she is old enough to deal with the consequences. My family would find out about it one way or another, so it may as well be now.” I get it, I do, but there’s still a part of me that doesn’t like it. Of course, Nick, being my mate, can feel my emotions and is quick to reach out and pull me into his side. He hocks a single finger under my chin and lifts my head until I’m staring straight into his eyes. 

“I get it, baby, I do and, honestly, I hate to have to do it, but she has to learn right from wrong. And this kind of behaviour is unacceptable, and she has to learn that. If she thinks she can go around talking to her Luna and stepmom like this, can you imagine how she could behave towards others… no that’s happening. She was brought up, not dragged up, and this will be dealt with right here, right 

now. 

I nod letting him know that I understand and that’s when I pick up on his emotions and realize he’s struggling with this too. I’ve been so focused on how I feel about the whole thing that I didn’t take a moment to focus on how he’s dealing with it and now, on top of everything else, I feel like the world’s worst mate and I just want to cry. Fuck, these pregnancy hormones are already playing with my emotions, goddesses help me in a few months. 

I go to speak but it’s Lottie’s voice that rings out across the room instead of mine. “He’s right, Bonnie… mom… I did what I did, and I need to own up to it.” I give her a small smile because, even though it’s me that she hurt, and it still most defiantly hurts, I can’t help but be proud of her for owning up to it and understanding and accepting that if she displays this kind of behaviour to anyone that there’s going to be repercussions. 

“Lottie, what have you done, darling,” Shane asks her. His tone is gentle but his stance is anything but. She takes a deep breath before

told her that he should have spoken to her about it by now.”
