Chapter 298 She Deserves It

In the midst of her lengthy diatribe, Alexander latched onto a single word–dirty,

He froze, a stunned expression on his face. After a long, pause, be finally responded, a mix of amusement and disbelief in lus tone, “Me, dirty? Emily, you really gotta be kidding me. I’ve had my fair share of flings, but I’ve been holding back for you. And you call me dirty?”

As he spoke, his temper flared. His chiseled face twisted with anger, and his eyes turned blood–red, looking positively menacing.

With a final outburst, he lashed out, kicking the pile of firewood nearby.

Then, he spun around and stalked off.

Emily stood there, motionless, trying to process what he’d said.

He claimed to have been keeping himself pure for her?

Yet, the tabloids were rife with stories about his escapades. And she had witnessed his flirtatious encounter with the actress at the restaurant with her own eyes.

Now, he had the audacity to say he’d been faithful.

That actress was bad enough, but what about Nancy?

Emily simply couldn’t bring herself to believe his words. They seemed like nothing more than empty lies.

Back at the camp, Nancy immediately noticed Alexander’s

return.

Seeing his foul mood, she approached him cautiously. “Mr. Lessing, still steamed about what Sophie said?”

Alexander was seething. He shot her a sidelong glance and replied curtly, “It’s not worth it.”

Sophia was just a child. Getting angry at her wasn’t worth his energy. Instead, his heart ached for Tommy.

Nancy misinterpreted his coldness, thinking he was mad at her, too, because of Sophia.

So, she blurted out, “Mr. Lessing, I’m sorry on Sophie’s behalf. She shouldn’t have said those horrible things to Tommy.”

Alexander faced her directly and fired back. “So, are you gonna keep apologizing for her for the rest of her life?”

The question left Nancy tongue–tied.

As someone who had never been a mother, she couldn’t possibly understand the pain Tommy felt when called a bastard.

Her apology was merely a way to defuse the situation, not a genuine admission of the severity of the issue.

Watching her struggle for words, Alexander almost laughed.

But before he could, Nancy suddenly leaned into him. Her chest grazed his arm deliberately, a blatant attempt at flirting.

Alexander’s face darkened instantly.

He took a step back, creating some much–needed distance between them.

Meanwhile, Emily had returned from the forest. She caught a glimpse of Alexander and Nancy standing in close proximity, almost as if they were about to embrace.

However, she merely spared them a passing glance before resuming her search for Molly.

Just then, Sophia’s shrill voice rang out. “Bastard! Bastard! You’re just a bastard, Tommy. You don’t have a mom. You’re a worthless bastard!”

Following the sound, Emily saw Sophia perched on a small rock, pointing her finger at Tommy and shouting those hurtful words.

A wave of anger crashed over Emily. She strode towards them, her fists balled tightly.

But just as she was about 6 feet away from Sophia, Molly burst onto the scene out of nowhere.

Taking advantage of Sophia’s momentary daze, Molly straddled her and started pounding on her face and body.

As a pampered girl, Sophia had no idea how to fight. In front of Molly, she quickly found herself at a disadvantage.

The commotion between the two kids was quite loud, even catching Nancy’s attention. She’d been so focused on trying to make amends with Alexander that she’d frowned at the ruckus.

Walking towards the beaten Sophia, Nancy scolded loudly, “Molly, do you know what you’re doing? If Ethan finds out, do you think you’ll have an easy time?”

Clearly, she aimed these words at Emily, hoping to pressure her into breaking up the fight by bringing up Ethan’s status.

But Emily stood still, coldly watching as Molly pummeled Sophia.

Sophia was crying hysterically but still threatening through her sobs, “Molly, if you keep hitting me, I’ll tell my dad to kill you and your whole family!”

Molly was in a frenzy, paying no heed to Sophia’s threats as she landed one blow after another.

Eventually, Sophia’s once–confident threats grew weaker and weaker, almost inaudible.
