After being called out, Cassian finally looked over, his gaze slowly sweeping across the photos laid out on the table. 

A faint, self–mocking smile tugged at his lips. “Didn’t you always complain about my taste?” he said. 

“Indeed,” Benjamin replied bluntly. 

“You guys can choose. I’m leaving,” Cassian said. 

With that, he stood up, grabbed his coat from the sofa, and walked out. 

Benjamin tossed the remaining photos back onto the table, as if something was really bothering him. 

Abigail followed Cassian out, asking quietly, “You’re leaving before dinner?” 

“You guys go ahead. If I stick around, I’ll just kill everyone’s appetite,” Cassian replied. 

At the sound of his voice, Aurelia glanced over at him. 

Cassian opened the front door, and the patchy evening sunlight spilled into the house, making his expression look even more somber. 

Aurelia had an important dinner to attend the next day, so she didn’t stick around for dinner either. 

As soon as she left, Abigail came out of the kitchen. 

She saw Benjamin quietly gathering up the photos, his expression dark and heavy. 

Abigail finally couldn’t hold back and asked, “Is there really no chance to turn things around?” 

Benjamin just stayed silent. 

Benjamin’s eyes grew darker, the spark in them slowly dying out. 

The dinner was put together by Breon, and every guest there was a major player in Ashmont. 

But he gave Aurelia the seat of honor, right in the spotlight. 

Nobody minded that arrangement. Everyone agreed that Aurelia had truly earned it. 

After all, among all these heavyweights, who else could pull off two successful IPOs back–to–back, just like Aurelia? 

Even when Cassian, the so–called business genius, was at the very top of his game, he couldn’t have pulled that off. 

With all the compliments flying her way, Aurelia knew exactly when to act modest and when to bask in the spotlight. 

She handled it all with effortless case. 

Even Breon couldn’t help but marvel, thinking back to when he’d first met Aurelia just a year ago. 

Who would’ve thought she’d manage to overtake everyone and leave them in the dust in only a year? 

Aurelia wasn’t totally on board with that idea. 

She explained, “I just take things one step at a time, moving straight ahead. Every move I make is solid, and you can see the

Breon was greatly impressed and lifted his glass in a toast to Aurelia. 

The party was in full swing when Breon’s secretary came over and whispered something in his car. 

Aurelia, sitting right next to them, couldn’t help but overhear. 

The secretary said, “Mr. Youngkin, Ms. Rowe from HelixTech is outside. She wants to see you.” 

Breon’s expression darkened. “Tell her I’m busy, and ask her to leave.” 

“I tried, but she refuses to leave. She says she has to see you,” the secretary said, looking pretty helpless. 

Breon slammed his glass down on the table, his patience wearing thin. “Can’t you just call security and have her thrown out? How hard is it to handle something this simple?” 

The secretary hurried out, terrified that if he messed this up, Breon would fire him on the spot. 

“Mr. Youngkin, what’s got you so worked up?” someone who didn’t know what was going on asked. 

Breon waved it off. “It’s just someone who really knows how to ruin the mood. It’s not worth talking about. Let’s keep drinking.” 

That was the law of survival. It was brutal, but that was just how things really were. 

Everyone had just raised their glasses when the door to the private room opened again, and Tessa was standing right there in the doorway. 

Breon’s face instantly darkened, and he was about to lay into his secretary for not handling things properly. 

But Cassian showed up right behind Tessa. 

With the light behind him, the shadows on his high nose and deep–set eyes made him look even more somber. 

Cassian’s voice was teasing, but there was a cold edge to it. “Mr. Youngkin, did you not know I was back in Ashmont? Is that why I didn’t get an invite to your dinner?” 

Breon could ignore Tessa, but Cassian was someone he had to show respect to. 

So he switched gears in a heartbeat, forcing a smile. “Oh, I’m really sorry, Mr. Locke. I honestly had no idea you were back. It was an overlook.” 

He kept apologizing and trying to explain himself as he hurried to arrange seats for Cassian. 

Cassian didn’t make a fuss about it. He just brought Tessa along and sat down on the other side of Breon. 

Everyone at the table was a seasoned player. They could all see right through why Cassian had brought Tessa to the dinner tonight. 

With Cassian backing her up, Tessa started putting on airs again. 

From start to finish, Tessa never once looked Aurelia’s way, treating Aurelia like she was invisible. 

Of course, Aurelia couldn’t care less about her either. 

Meanwhile, Breon was just going through the motions with Cassian, exchanging pleasantries without any real sincerity. 

On the other side, a few people were quietly gossiping.

Mr. Locke must really be head over heels for Ms. Rowe. Even with all this drama, he’s still standing up for her. Guess you see people’s true colors when things get rough,” someone remarked. 

The person next to him scoffed, “True colors? More like he’s just thinking with his hormones.” 

Maybe their voices were a bit too loud, because Tessa shot them a cold glare. 

That was enough to shut them up. 

Aurelia couldn’t care less about their relationship drama. She was more interested in why Cassian had brought Tess to this dinner. 

If her guess was right, Cassian was probably planning to salvage HelixTech and get it back on track for a new IPO. 

After all, he’d already poured so much money into it. If he just walked away now, all that cash would be gone for good. 

With Tessa’s reputation in the gutter, trying to attract new investors would be next to impossible. 

That was why Cassian had to take matters into his own hands. 

‘Now that’s true love, no doubt about it,‘ Aurelia thought to herself. ‘For Tessa, Cassian would move heaven and earth. There’s no other guy who’s more devoted than Cassian. 

While Aurelia was grumbling inwardly, yet another person arrived at the dinner. 

It was Kyler. 

With Evergreen Group behind him, Breon had to treat him like royalty. 

After some quick seat rearranging, Kyler sat right next to Aurelia. 

Aurelia didn’t even spare him a glance. 

Before sitting down, Kyler called out respectfully, “Aurelia.” 

Then he took his seat beside her, all proper and polite. 

When Kyler showed up, Tessa’s stomach dropped. 

Noticing that he didn’t even look her way, her nerves eased just a little. 

Ever since Kyler had put her on the spot about her spotless reputation at the finance summit, Tessa couldn’t help but feel uneasy every time she saw him. 

But Kyler didn’t spare her a glance. His focus was entirely on Aurelia. 

That left Tessa feeling even more uncomfortable. 

Back then, that look in his eyes was reserved for her alone. 

Just as she was feeling lost, Kyler suddenly lifted his gaze and looked straight at her. 

Tessa’s heart clenched. 

She tried her best to muster a faint smile for Kyler, just like she used to. 

But this time, when Kyler saw her smile, he narrowed his eyes and flashed a cold, razor–edged grin. 

Tessa’s gut told her things were about to go south.

Tessa’s face went ghostly pale. 

She never thought Kyler would put her on blast like that, hitting her right where it hurt. 

As soon as Kyler spoke, the whole room went dead silent. 

Cassian, who had been talking to Breon, paused and fixed his gaze on Kyler across the table. 

His face was impossible to read, like the calm before the storm.
