Cassian paused, his gaze landing on Aurelia’s face, icy and calm. 

The air seemed to freeze, turning into a stagnant pool, utterly still.

After a few seconds of eye contact, Aurelia looked away, headed straight down the steps, brushing past Cassian without even glancing back. 

A restless gust of wind swept by. 

Aurelia got into the car and left. 

Cassian lingered for a moment, then finally looked away, his movements stiff. 

Once Aurelia was in the car, she called Benjamin to check in about the accident. 

Benjamin told her he’d had something else come up that day, so he skipped the hospital visit and sent his driver to pick up the meds. That way, he ended up dodging the accident by sheer luck. 

Aurelia let out a sigh of relief. 

It was a lucky break in the middle of all that mess. 

They chatted for a bit longer. 

Mostly, Benjamin was asking if she’d set the date for the bell–ringing ceremony for the IPO. 

Aurelia said it was set for next Wednesday. 

Benjamin paused for a second, then realized, “Wait, isn’t that your birthday?” 

‘I can’t believe Benjamin even remembered my birthday,‘ Aurelia thought, genuinely surprised. 

“Yeah, I chose that day on purpose,” Aurelia replied honestly. 

Benjamin thought that was meaningful. He went on to ask, “So, what’s your birthday wish this year?”

‘My birthday wish… Aurelia thought, pausing for a moment. 

For the past seven years, she’d always wished for the same two things on her birthday. 

One was wishing her mom a long life.

“Please, just let her go,” she sobbed, her voice trembling with desperation.

Karlie kept knocking her forehead to the ground, begging Aurelia again and again. 

Walter instinctively stepped in front of Aurelia, ready to shield her in case Karlie tried anything reckless. 

Miranda was furious. “Don’t try to use moral blackmail on Ms. Corin! Your mom broke the law. She should face legal punishment.” 

If Karlie hadn’t been backed into a corner, she never would’ve done something like this. 

“Please, Aurelia, I’m begging you. Don’t hold my mom responsible. She could get the death penalty! I can’t lose her. Please go to the police station and sign a statement of forgiveness,” Karlie pleaded. 

Karlie paid no attention to Miranda, still begging Aurelia, her voice hoarse and desperate. 

Her forehead was already split open and bleeding, but she didn’t even seem to feel it. She just kept bowing her head to the.. ground, desperate and relentless. 

Aurelia gave her a cold glance, then instructed Miranda, “Call the police.”

Walter snapped, “Leave now, or I’m calling the cops.” 

Karlie bolted, terrified. 

Miranda scrunched up her face in disgust. “Don’t pay any mind to that nutcase. She’s just toxic to listen to. Let’s get out of here before her bad luck rubs off on us.” 

She kept cursing under her breath, “Where the hell is Tessa? Can’t even keep that nutcasejust, letting her loose to cause trouble.” 

Just as Aurelia got into the car, she got a call from the police. They had a new update on the case. 

Vanessa, who hadn’t said a word until now, finally spoke up this morning with a new lead. She insisted she wasn’t the mastermind, just an accomplice. 

The real mastermind was Alina. 

Right after it all happened, Aurelia already suspected Alina was the one pulling the strings. 

There was never any real bad blood between her and Vanessa, nothing serious enough for Vanessa to keep coming after her like that. 

But Vanessa stubbornly claimed it was all her doing from the very start. 

When Aurelia heard Vanessa had finally relented, she couldn’t help but feel puzzled. 

‘What could have made her suddenly start accusing Alina?‘ Aurelia wondered.
