< Don’t Say You Love Me
Chapter 331 Car Accident
Aaron abruptly halted in his tracks, his frame quivering slightly. Emily caught sight of his unsteady form.
Moments later, Aaron slowly pivoted around. Without uttering
a single syllable, he lunged forward and enveloped Emily in a vice–like embrace.
His chin nestled atop her head as he let out a soft plea. “Shh, don’t say a thing.”
He knew all too well what Emily was on the verge of saying, but the words were like a poison he didn’t want to ingest.
Every waking moment, he tortured himself with regret. Why hadn’t he been more resolute in the past? Why hadn’t he mustered the courage to lay his heart bare to Emily?
He’d waited patiently for success to come knocking, and by the time it did, she’d already slipped through his fingers and into another man’s arms.
Now, a bitter jealousy gnawed at his insides as Aaron thought of Alexander. That guy had no qualms about wearing his heart on his sleeve, while Aaron was stuck in this purgatory of unspoken love.
Emily felt a knot in her stomach. But duty tugged at

heartstrings, and she managed to stammer, “Aaron, there are things I gotta get off my chest.”
Aaron squeezed her even tighter, his voice thick with emotion, as if he were on the verge of tears. “Please, just do me this one favor,” he begged.
Emily’s heart broke into a million pieces, and she fell silent.
Once he felt her stop struggling to speak, Aaron continued, his voice barely above a whisper, “Let me hold onto this little shred of hope, okay?”
Emily’s voice came out raspy as she questioned, “What if that hope turns out to be a mirage?”
Aaron shot back, “What if it’s real?”
Before Emily could retort, Aaron loosened his grip and stepped back slightly. Looking into her eyes, he said, “Let me drive you home.”
At his words, Emily suddenly snapped back to reality.
Alexander had promised to wait for her outside.
Despite secretly hoping he’d break that promise, she found herself scanning the area.

Sure enough, his sleek Porsche Panamera was nowhere to be
seen.
Emily had never fully trusted Alexander’s words anyway, and his absence merely confirmed her doubts.
Aaron noticed her furtive glances and felt a sharp pain in his
chest.
Why was it that Ethan and Alexander had a place in her heart, but there was no room for him?
は
He found himself thinking that he’d be willing to be a distant third choice if it meant being a part of her life.
Seeing no sign of Alexander, Emily nudged Aaron. “Come on, let’s go.”
Aaron stared at her, the words he’d rehearsed a thousand times dying in his throat.
He wasn’t like Ethan, who seemed to effortlessly draw Emily’s attention just by existing.
Nor was he as brash as Alexander, who had no problem spilling his guts about his feelings.
Aaron often kicked himself for his timidity. Why couldn’t he be more daring?

Ten minutes prior, Alexander was parked on the side of the road in his shiny Porsche Panamera, engrossed in a game on his phone.
Every so often, he’d glance up through the windshield at the barbecue joint entrance.
When he saw no sign of Emily, he’d go back to slaying virtual monsters on his screen.
Mid–game, a call came in from an unknown number.
Fearing it was Emily, Alexander quickly answered.
On the other end, there was a cacophony of noise.
Then, a strange male voice blurted out, “Hello, is this Alexander Lessing? This is the Sixth Street Viaduct. Your mom’s been in a bad car accident. You need to get here ASAP.”
Alexander felt as if the world had stopped spinning.
He sat there, frozen in his seat. Once his brain kicked back
into gear, he didn’t even bother hanging up the phone before flooring the accelerator and speeding off.

Aaron called for a designated driver to take Emily back to
Carter Manor.
Inside the car, an awkward silence hung heavy in the air.
As the car cruised past the Sixth Street Viaduct, Emily craned her neck to look at the oncoming lane. It was a complete gridlock, with a large crowd gathered around a section of the road.
Puzzlement clouded Emily’s mind as she murmured under her breath, “Seems like there’s been a car crash.”
Aaron cast a glance and readily agreed, “Looks pretty bad.”
The site was swamped with onlookers, effectively blocking their view of the harrowing details within.
Suddenly, a voice boomed from the oncoming lane, “Any doctors here? There’s someone bleeding out! The ambulance can’t break through the traffic jam. If you’re in the medical field, step up and help!”
At these words, Emily instinctively shot a look at Aaron.
Without hesitation, Aaron told the driver, “Pull over to the curb.”
Once the car was safely parked, he jerked his head and said to 5/7

Emily, “Let’s go see what’s up.”
With a nod, Emily replied simply, “Okay.”
They disembarked and clambered over the guardrail, making their way to the accident on the other side.
Shouldering his way through the throng, Aaron hollered, “We’re doctors, folks. Give us some space.”
Emily trailed right behind him, and before long, they found themselves at the heart of the chaos.
The accident was a nightmarish spectacle. Multiple cars had collided violently. One of them was pressed up against the bridge railing, just a few feet away from a very watery demise.
A handful of people with minor wounds were sitting off to the side, but the real horror was a woman lying comatose in a large pool of blood. A man knelt beside her.
From behind, Emily thought she recognized him as Alexander, though she couldn’t be sure.
As soon as Aaron reached the injured woman, he dropped to his knees beside her.
Emily followed suit and softly tapped the man on the shoulder. “Sir, we’re docs. Mind moving aside a little to let some fresh air 6/7

in?” she murmured.
The man turned around, and at the sight of his face, Emily froze. It was indeed Alexander.
Right then, Alexander looked completely lost, his face splattered with blood and etched with sheer terror.
At the sight of him in such a state, Emily’s heart ached with a mix of compassion and resignation.
Alexander had managed to hold back his tears until that moment. But the second his eyes met Emily’s, all his composure vanished.
He was unable to contain himself any longer, his eyes welling up, and he broke down into sobs.
