Aurelia’s brows drew together. She had no idea why he was calling. 

After thinking it over for a few seconds, she rejected the call. 

Some connections were not worth maintaining. 

She didn’t want the good mood she’d had all night to be ruined by this phone call. 

The cold wind whipped up her skirt again, and Aurelia felt the winter chill biting right through her. 

She hoped Walter’s car would get here soon. 

She wanted to get home and sleep well tonight.

On the other side, Dudley held an umbrella over Cassian, making sure the winter rain didn’t touch him. 

Cassian had mulled it over for ages before finally making the call. 

But as soon as the call went through, he hesitated. 

Cassian thought, ‘I shouldn’t have called. Right now, Aurelia is in the happiest moment of her life, and she shouldn’t be affected by me.‘ 

So Cassian cut the call short. 

Both happened at the same moment. She declined, and he hung up. 

Neither of them even realized it. 

Dudley frowned, a little confused. “What’s up?” 

“It’s nothing,” Cassian replied, slipping his phone into his pocket. He turned to the law enforcement officials waiting nearby. “Sorry to keep you waiting.” 

The law enforcement officials came over and slapped the cuffs on him. 

Cassian went along without a fuss. 

Dudley’s brows knitted together. “I’ll keep an eye on your father’s side, in case someone tries to retaliate against him.” 

Cassian’s gaze dropped, fixed on the cold metal cuffs around his wrists. 

After a couple of seconds, he said, “Keep an eye on Aurelia, too.” 

Dudley looked genuinely puzzled. “You and she are completely done. She shouldn’t get dragged into this mess.” 

“Just in case,” Cassian said. 

He wasn’t about to gamble with that. He couldn’t afford to take the risk. 

Dudley just nodded, knowing he didn’t have a choice. 

With that settled, Cassian finally got into the car with the law enforcement officials.

Chapter 335 

The wail of sirens shattered the silence of the night as the police car drove past the man–made lake ahead. 

Across the lake stood the Golden Bay Hotel, where Regal Investment was hosting its appreciation party. 

Walter still hadn’t shown up with the car. 

Aurelia let her eyes wander over the rain–soaked darkness, not really focusing on anything. 

She felt at case, her thoughts drifting off into nothingness. 

As the sirens wailed, Aurelia’s eyes were drawn to the police car racing by. 

But she quickly looked away. 

The police car disappeared at the end of the street. 

Cassian sat in the middle seat. As the car passed the Golden Bay Hotel, he found himself looking toward the building. 

Even through the tinted window, he could clearly spot her silhouette. 

But the car sped by so fast, he didn’t get a chance to take a closer look. 

Her figure disappeared from his view, lost in the blur of the scenery rushing past. 

Cassian couldn’t tear his eyes away from the window. 

Even when the world outside went quiet again, that restless storm in his chest wouldn’t calm down. 

After a long while, he finally looked away from the neon–lit streets and muttered, “Shame there’s no moon tonight,” 

The weather wasn’t doing him any favors. Everything was so blurry, he couldn’t even see her face clearly.

Three days later, Zane messaged from Northvale. [There was an earthquake in Northvale.] He asked everyone in the group if any of the seniors or juniors had been affected. 

Marshall was the first to reply. [Some of us did, but it’s not a big deal. We can handle it.] 

Cruz: [The bigger the storm, the pricier the catch.] 

Kyler was even more direct. He just dropped a screenshot of Evergreen Group’s stock chart. 

It was deep in the red. 

Zane couldn’t help but feel a little relieved. [Looks like Aurelia’s got it easy. Chilling in Ashmont, totally untouched by all this.] 

Aurelia: [Not exactly. Some of Regal Investment’s partners were affected, especially Eastview, so Regal Investment is kinda caught up in it, too.] 

Zane: [Good. I was really worried you guys were living it up behind my back.] 

Aurelia: [?] 

‘Honestly, having a senior like him is pure luck, Aurelia thought. 

Zane defended himself. [Hey, that’s what being ride–or–die is all about, sharing the good times and the rough patches.]

Then he tried to reassure everyone. [Chill, this is nothing. We’ve still got our mentor, who’s our walking lifeline. What’s there to be scared of?] 

Stephen left the group chat. 

Zane: [Man, Stephen can’t take a joke at all.] 

While joking around with the group, Aurelia kept tabs on the latest buzz in her circle. 

Things in Ashmont were still dead quiet. No word online at all. 

Even the morning news was busy singing praises for that big name’s recent accomplishments. 

Aurelia was watching the news when her phone suddenly rang. It was Mia calling. 

This time, it wasn’t a video chat, but a straight–up phone call. 

Guessing it was urgent, Aurelia answered right away. She barely had time to say hello before Mia hit her with a question that left her stunned. 

“Aurelia, is Honoria Capital going bankrupt?” Mia asked urgently. 

Aurelia paused, surprised. “Really? I haven’t heard anything about that.” 

Mia was talking so fast she was almost breathless. “I heard it from a friend. They’re working on an acquisition plan for Honoria Capital and already have people evaluating how much it’s worth.” 

“Who told you that?” Aurelia asked, sounding confused. 

The weirdest part was, there hadn’t been a peep about it in Ashmont, yet Mia, way out in the mountains shooting a movie, was the one who got the scoop first. 

‘Does that even make sense?‘ Aurelia thought. 

Mia explained, “I heard it from my distant cousin’s boyfriend. He’s with the company that’s planning to buy out Honoria Capital. And, he said Honoria Capital has filed for bankruptcy. 

“Cassian, the bastard, is bankrupt. 

“Serves him right!” 

Mia was going on and on about it on the other end. 

Aurelia’s mood was complicated right now. 

It wasn’t exactly vindicating, but she wasn’t really sad either. 

Her emotions were tangled and hard to define. 

She was certain Cassian wasn’t the reason for her complicated feelings. 

After all, she’d grown alongside Honoria Capital, devoting seven years of her hard work and dedication to it. 

Watching it collapse, she couldn’t help but sigh. 

Eight years of memories played out in her mind like an old movie reel. 

She felt like just an outsider, watching it all unfold.

She’d seen him rise to power and seen him bask in the glory of his success. 

And now, she watched the company he built come crashing down. 

When Aurelia didn’t answer, Mia called out, “Aurelia, are you even listening to me?”

This time, Mia didn’t answer. 

A few seconds later, she hung up and sent Aurelia a WhatsApp message. 

[Sorry, the signal’s terrible out here in the mountains. The call just cut out. What were you asking me again, Aurelia?] 

Aurelia was silent. 

‘Honestly, who knows if she ever tracked down that missing cash, Aurelia thought, a little amused. 

Aurelia let her off the hook and didn’t push any further. 

Her mind wandered. Out of nowhere, she remembered that call she’d ignored. 

Aurelia wondered, ‘Was Cassian trying to say something important when he called? 

‘Maybe it was about Honoria Capital?‘ 

Aurelia opened up her call log, staring at that missed call, zoning out.
