Mila sniffled, “Just now, some woman showed up at our house, claiming she’s having Tyson’s baby and demanding that he marry her.”
‘So that’s what happened, Aurelia thought.
Aurelia gently comforted Mila, “Tyson’s an adult. He has his own choices and judgment. You shouldn’t get involved. Your studies are what matter most right now.”
“But I really want you to marry my brother instead,” Mila said, her heart sinking even further.
What really stung was how unbothered Aurelia looked, like she wasn’t even surprised by any
of it.
That realization made Mila’s heart sink.
When a woman can remain emotionally calm after hearing something like this, it usually means one thing.
She just wasn’t into Tyson at all, so nothing about this fazed her.
Ella spent quite a while trying to cheer Mila up, and finally, Mila started to settle down.
Right then, Tyson called Aurelia. The moment he found out Mila was with her, he dropped everything and drove straight over to get her.
Aurelia walked Mila downstairs, and the two of them hung around outside for a while.
During that time, Aurelia kept trying to reason with Mila, telling her that the adult world was complicated by nature.
Mila kind of understood, but in the end, she could only say, feeling miserable, “But I really wish it was you.”
Even though Mila knew that was no longer possible.
When Tyson showed up, he couldn’t even look Aurelia in the eye. He just muttered, “Sorry for the trouble.”
“Drive safely,” Aurelia said, not prying any further.
Tyson paused, then added, “Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas,” Aurelia replied.
As the car pulled away, Tyson watched Aurelia’s figure shrink in the rearview mirror.
It felt like something in his world was growing blurry, slipping further and further away.
Mila slumped against the window, tracing random shapes on the foggy glass with her finger.
“Tyson, you’re going to regret this,” Mila muttered, her voice barely above a whisper.
After a long pause, Tyson finally muttered, “I know.”
Kyler was the very first to text Aurelia at midnight.
It was timed perfectly, almost like he’d been watching the clock.
Nothing fancy, just three simple words.
Kyler: [Merry Christmas, Aurelia.]

Chapter 341
You could tell it wasn’t some mass text.
Aurelia thought about it for a bit, then finally replied, “Merry Christmas.”
Across the river, fireworks lit up the night sky, bursting with dazzling colors.
Aurelia wrapped herself in a shawl and stepped out onto the balcony to watch the fireworks.
They weren’t as grand as last year, but they were still beautiful.
They added a touch of festive spirit to the holiday.
Across the river, Jasper shouted to Gideon, “Is that enough?”
Only after Gideon nodded did Jasper climb up the embankment.

Jasper, rubbing his frozen hands, looked up at the fireworks still lighting the sky and asked Gideon, “Why’d you suddenly want to set off fireworks way out here? It’s freezing, and it’s so far.”
Gideon shrugged, “Isn’t this just one of those city–approved spots?”
Jasper grunted. “Don’t you need to keep your girl company?”
Jasper never really got along with Chloe, she was just way too delicate and always getting upset at the slightest thing.
Jasper honestly couldn’t imagine what Gideon had to deal with every day.
Before Gideon could answer, his phone rang.
Jasper glanced over and snorted, “Speak of the devil.”
After Gideon finished the call, he hopped in his car and headed off to accompany Chloe.
Jasper lingered by the river a little longer.
People always say that the upcoming year’s supposed to be better than the last, but to Jasper, each year just felt worse than the one before.
This time last year, everyone was around, the place was buzzing too.
But in just one year, so much had changed.
Jasper had lost his dad, the one who always had his back. Cassian and Tessa had both ended up behind bars. Gideon was about to get married, but he was marrying someone he didn’t even love.
It seemed like nobody’s life was really going the way they wanted.
But maybe that wasn’t totally the case.
At least things were looking up for Aurelia.
Ever since she split with Cassian, her life’s been on the up and up.
On Christmas day, Aurelia stopped by to wish Stephen a merry Christmas, then dropped by Benjamin’s place to do the
same.
When she arrived, Jasper was already there.
He was hanging out with Benjamin in the living room, sipping tea and chatting.

When Aurelia walked in, Jasper instinctively stood up, a bit shy as he offered her his seat.
Before she arrived, Benjamin and Jasper had been talking about ordinary things.
But as soon as Aurelia showed up, the two of them dove straight into business talk.
Jasper was totally lost.
But he could tell Aurelia was on a whole other level.
She could hold her own with Benjamin, matching him point for point in their conversation.
That was when Jasper finally understood why Steven kept pushing him to learn from Aurelia.
He realised Aurelia’s success wasn’t just a stroke of luck; it was inevitable.

Now he got why Michael said Aurelia was overqualified as Cassian’s secretary at Honoria Capital. He was spot on.
The only reason she spent seven years as Cassian’s secretary was that she was deeply in love with him.
Cassian truly does owe Aurelia a lot.
After they finished talking business, Benjamin asked Aurelia how her studies were going.
Aurelia said she had about six months left to finish Stephen’s program, and after that, she’d be heading to Whitvale School of Management for advanced studies.
Jasper was already impressed by Aurelia’s talent, but hearing she was going to Whitvale totally floored him.
‘Wait, she finished Stephen’s program in just over half a year and already scored a spot at Whitvale? What is she, superhuman? That’s unreal, Jasper thought.
Compared to Aurelia, Jasper felt like he was just an extra in the background.
Benjamin was all for Aurelia’s decision. “If you want Regal Investment to go global, it really does require a systematic understanding of the economic systems and rules of foreign business alliances. This is a very wise decision.”
That was exactly what Aurelia had in mind.
Benjamin paused, then switched gears and asked Aurelia about her personal life.
“If the right person comes along, you should give it a try,” he said.
“Okay,” Aurelia replied.
Jasper couldn’t help but glance at Aurelia.
Her eyes looked calm on the surface, but beneath that calm, there was a restless undercurrent, like the wind before a storm.
About a week later, Aurelia showed up at city hall for a meeting.
Wade, who was supposed to be running the show, was nowhere to be seen, so the deputy director took over.
During the tea break, people started gossiping about Daniel being dismissed, saying he was likely implicated by his wife and daughter, which led to his removal from office during his upward trajectory.
Her lawyer texted her, letting her know that the trial for Alina and Vanessa’s murder charges was set for next Monday, and asked if she wanted to attend.

Aurelia replied that she’d be there.
There was no suspense to the case, but she still wanted to see their end with her own eyes.

Aurelia had a work dinner that night, and by the time she wrapped things up, it was already past nine.
Fortunately, she’d messaged Ella in advance, telling her not to wait, to eat and sleep on time, and to remember to take her medicine before bed.
When Walter dropped Aurelia off downstairs, he glanced toward the gazebo up ahead. “Ms. Corin, I think that’s Madam Corin over there.”
Aurelia craned her neck for a better look.
There were two figures in the gazebo. Even from far away, Aurelia recognized Ella right away.
But she couldn’t tell who the man across from Ella was.
He was half–hidden in the shadows cast by the trees.
