Davy’s words make sense; they couldn’t drag this out. 

From the time a case is accepted to the day it finally goes to trial, it takes at least six months. 

And even if they won for sure, there would still be an enforcement period afterward.

“Janice, you can’t make decisions for everyone,” Davy said calmly. “But you can make decisions for yourself, right?

Davy’s face darkened. 

He knew it very well. 

Even if Janice filed a lawsuit, during the long legal process, he had plenty of ways to pressure her into withdrawing the case. 

By then, she would have nothing left and would have wasted a huge amount of time. 

So yes, he was willing to show a bit of mercy, but only if she knew how to take it. 

Janice clenched her teeth and walked back to the desk. 

The agreement lay right there. 

She recognized every word on the page, but reading it felt like a knife twisting in her chest. 

Her hand trembled as she picked up the pen. 

Tears fell heavily, splashing onto the paper. 

“Wait.” 

A familiar voice suddenly rang out.

She dropped the pen and turned toward the door.

She stood there quietly, a cold curve at the corner of her lips. Her presence was sharp and intimidating, like a warning to stay away. 

Janice sniffed hard. 

The tight knot in her chest, nearly suffocating by moments of pressure, finally began to loosen.

Her voice was thick with tears. 

Alice lifted a hand and motioned for her to come over. 

Janice hurried to her side. 

Davy stood there, stunned.

“Mrs. Nolan,” he said after a brief pause, quickly regaining his composure, “why didn’t you let us know in advance that you were coming?” 

Though Alice’s status was high, HR was still under Ruby’s control. 

Alice could scold him, sure, but she couldn’t fire him. 

So what did he have to fear? 

Davy didn’t think this was a big deal at all. 

The smile on his face was mere politeness, hollow and fake. 

“If I’d known carlier, I could’ve prepared some tea for you.” 

He stepped closer and stood in front of Alice. 

“But it’s not too late now. What kind of tea do you like, Mrs Nolan?” 

Alice walked forward slowly and looked him up and down. 

“You really are thick–skinned,” she said. 

Davy blinked. “Huh?” 

Alice gave a cold laugh. “Where did you even pick up that kind of shameless nerve?” 

Davy froze.

“Mrs. Nolan, you really know how to joke,” he said stiffly. 

Alice nodded. “If we’re talking about jokes, I’m not even close to your level.” 

Davy stared at her. “What?” 

“You dared to treat labor law like a joke,” Alice said coolly. “I truly can’t compete with that.” 

The moment his words fell, several people suddenly pushed their way in from behind.

They were holding cameras. Before anyone inside could react, the agreement on the table was already being filmed. 

“Who are you people? What are you doing? Get out! Get out!” 

Davy panicked. 

Only then did he realize Alice had already planned everything before she showed up. 

She stood there talking to him for so long to buy time. 

Or maybe she simply found him annoying and wanted to humiliate him a little more. 

“I’m a reporter from Mapleford Daily,” someone said. “Manager, may I ask, was this agreement your personal decision, or was it ordered by Nolan Group’s leadership?” 

There was no way to answer that. 

Davy immediately shouted for security and called over other HR staff, trying to force the reporters out. 

“I’m not accepting interviews. Get out!” 

Of course, the reporters had no intention of leaving; pushing and shoving quickly broke out between both sides. 

Janice felt a rush of relief. She wiped her tears with her sleeve. 

“Ms. Spencer, thank you so much today,” she said sincerely. 

“Otherwise, I would’ve had to sell myself short.” 

Alice patted her on the shoulder. “All right. Go,” she said calmly. “Don’t let me down.” 

Janice froze for a second before she understood what Alice meant. 

She walked straight to the desk and picked up the agreement. 

With one clean motion, she tore it into pieces and flung them right into Davy’s face. 

Then she raised her hand and slapped him.

Smack! The sound echoed sharply, and the room fell silent. 

Everything happened in a split second. 

Davy was stunned. 

He instinctively touched his burning cheek, his eyes filling with malice. 

“How dare you hit me?” he shouted.

Another slap landed on the other side of his cheeks; the red handprints were even now. 

The reporters stopped asking questions and simply kept filming. 

All the fear and hesitation on Janice’s face vanished; what remained was pure anger. 

“I hit you because you deserved it.”
